I'm hoping someone's experience can answer this question for me. If you have an Au Pair who is living with your family, can you buy her an AP with your DVC discount?
Thanks for your help!

Does her / his official ID have the same address? So far I've seen it's people living at the same house - with IDs.

If not, that would be great for me too!

It is my understanding that it is immediate family who reside in the same household. Please let us know if you find out otherwise.

From the DVC member site:

FAQs

Who is eligible to receive the discount?

Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on the Pass for themselves and their immediate family residing in the same household only. At the time of purchase or redemption, your Disney Vacation Club Member ID card must be provided and ALL ADULTS must present a valid driver's license or state identification card showing they reside in the same household.

Who is defined as "immediate family"?

"Immediate family" is defined by Walt Disney World Resort for discount purposes as noted below:
Spouse/Registered Domestic Partner
Parent/Step Parent
Mother-In-Law/Father-In-Law
Child/Step Child
Brother, Sister/Step Brother, Sister
Brother-In-Law/Sister-In-Law
Grandparent
Grandchild

Can I use my discount to buy a Pass for someone other than myself or immediate family residing in the same household?

No. This discount is exclusive for Members and may not be transferred. This perk may be revoked in the event of abuse.

Technically no but it be easy to get around. It remains to be seen how strict DVC will be on this. And to be honest, the rules are very schizophrenic as written. If you have a sister or inlaw living with you it's OK If they don't have the same address, it's not. Frankly, I'd rather see a sister get the discount at a different address than an in-law for the same one. As a practical matter if you have a picture ID proving the same address, I think you'll be OK. If you call MS and ask, the answer is likely to be all over the places and won't help you when you get there if it's different. I'd go with the idea of getting the discount and having a backup plan.

My mother is the DVC "owner" and I am her "associate". It's my understanding that I can make reservations etc. So would I be able to get the discounted AP? thanks!

No, you need to have a member card in your name or the same address as your mother.

You could always adopt the au pair, and make her part of your family ;)

Comedian/Actor Joe Piscopo went one better. He divorced his wife and married the au pair! ("au pair", in fact, is a very fitting description of her in this particular case)

Ok, so what really happens when we turn in our AP vouchers for the real pass? If the Au Pair walks up with the group and shows a Drivers License with the matching address, will the ticket agent go through the 20 questions routine? What is to stop the family from just stating she is their sister? LOL, my best friends are like my siblings most of the time! :goodvibes

That's up to you. But note the last lines of the rules:

No. This discount is exclusive for Members and may not be transferred. This perk may be revoked in the event of abuse.

No way to know for certain. Your worst scenario is having to pay the full price instead of the discounted rate. Likelihood of having anyone question it is likely well under 5%.

I don't know. The phrase, "No. This discount is exclusive for Members and may not be transferred. This perk may be revoked in the event of abuse. " would seem to indicate that the worst case is that you would lose the privilege of buying ANY tickets with the discount. Also, if Disney determined there was widespread abuse, they would probably drop the whole program.

I'm not sure what isn't clear in the Disney phrasing. An immediate family member living in the same household -- followed by a variety of explanations. An au pair is not immediate family. Neither is a friend renting a room, a cook, a nurse or any other variety of folks who might be at your address. DVC is already generous in encompassing in-laws, stepchildren, domestic partners who live at the same address. They don't permit the discount for these immediate family members who aren't living at the same address (which is another topic). There really is no justification for including an au pair in the program.

Yeah, I always used to think an au pair was TWO people!

Robin Williams did this as well. Must be something in the Comedian/Actor gene. :rotfl2:
