Are AP magic bands any different than others?

We already have two sets of magic bands from previous trips. We can now order our annual pass magic bands. Do they serve any new functions over the previous magic bands? Will we still be able to use them all interchangeably?

I have pink and red. Pink is my favorite. If I'll have to use the one linked to my AP through this order, I'll order another pink. If I can use them all interchangeably, I'll order a new/different color but still use my old pink one.

No new functions, but they come with little sliders showing that you are a pass holder. :goodvibes

they also came with new discount cards for the free parking and annual pass discount. Not sure why we need it since we carry our annual passes just incase we have any issues with the bands, which we have not other than my wife leaving her band in the hotel room.

edit: another thing that may not matter since you already have two bands is if you were to lose your band, it is nice to have another as a backup since it looks like they are going to start charging for them in the future. Why not get them while they are free.

Already had some from a hotel stay and 5 minutes ago our passholder ones showed up,glad I looked at this thread or I would have forgotten to look in the bottom of the box for the discount cards.

I really wish they would make the AP MagicBands be in different AP-only colors, so we wouldn't have to carry that stupid discount card. They should also say AP on them on the band somewhere or something. Scanning the band should give us the discount automatically and show the parking people that we have free parking.

I think Disney needs to think a little hard on this to make it more convenient and exclusive for us. A slider doesn't exactly excite me.

Disney will never do that. YOU have always had to initiate the discount. As much as it makes sense to you, it doesn't make cents for them.

This had been my experience for years as well - having to remember to ask which I rarely did:(. But, our trip last month, at least twice a CM at a store, asked me if I was a passholder. I know one place was the star tours store. I think the other was mouse gear when my daughter bought her first pin trading set. I was pleasantly surprised. I agree though, it will never be automatically linked to your band.

I think you misunderstood what I meant.... WE (the AP holders) would still have to say "I'm a passholder" and then the CM could then ask you to "scan your band" rather than having to take out our discount card. I never meant to imply that it be fully automatic (although I did use that word). I know Disney wouldn't do that.

Welp, I was having problems getting the website to accept the Pop Century as a legit shipping address for my passholder bands. I was going to just skip it, since we already have perfectly serviceable bands from our previous stay, and will be getting more with the new stay. But then you mentioned sliders... :rotfl2:

That inspired me to call Disney's IT and actually sort out the problems with shipping the bands.

I've already got the 2013 slider. I want more! :yay:
