After all the hype on the news about the riots and trouble in France we were feeling a bit concerned about aour upcoming trip. It is only 2 and a half weeks until we go. Do any of you feel a little aprehensive about going?? Don't think anyone's said much so far, all we know is that US visitors have been told not to travel to France !!One very concerned Wifey!! :confused3 :confused3

I'm going on the 26th November.

I don't feel worried, provided you keep away from the RER at night I doubt you will even come into contact with any.

DLRP seems to be a rural area and I've seen the army / police with guns plenty of times.

Hardly one of the poorer rough areas where it seems concentrated.

Don't worry and have a good trip.

hmmm.. i did think abotu this yesterday... but DLRP is MILES away from anywhere.... i doubt there'd be any trouble there...

(((hugs)))

i was thinking about this myself,i dont think you will be in for any problems.theres no doubt that they will be aware of any problems that could arise and will have prepared for it long in advance. As has previously been mention, where the park is situated is also a positive thing as,due to the nature of the riots, they are mainly based in poor areas where unemployment is high.
A curfew has also now been imposed, and although this has been ignored by a minority, this has had a positive effect on the number of people rioting.

I think it will actually be a positive thing for anyone going to DLP from the UK or other foreign countries. I know the riots are an unfortunate thing, but the majority of people who go to DLP are from France, and these riots and the reaction of french government and police are going to have a large effect on consumer confidence, and a big effect on the number of french people going to DLP.Not to mention people from other countries who cancel their holidays due to concern for their safety. This means the parks are going to be quieter. And,with the parks being quieter,it should make the whole experience much better for you and your family, nobody likes to queue after all!

The reality of the situation is that this is a very safe time to go. Much like public reaction after the September 11th terrorist attacks, millions of people refused to fly in the following weeks due to concern over their safety, but the safest time to fly was September 12th.The security all over the country after the attacks was so intense to prevent anymore attacks. Its the same sort of thing in France, there will be a huge increase in security and the number of police patrols because of the recent rioting, which will make it a very safe time to be in DLP.It,should, make DLP and the area around it a very tranquil place to be in.

One thing i would worry about is the curfew imposed on everybody in France, and whether this will effect you.I dont know if it will still be in place when you are there,or whether it concerns you as a tourist, but it might be a good idea to find out if you need to be back at your hotel by a certain time.

Hope that is a help to you.
Martin.

Our main concern is getting safely to DLRP from CDG airport, hope that the curfew business doesn't cause us any problems, we were hoping to catch the VEA otherwise we will have to go from T3 to another terminal which may take time, to get the TGV.
Like you say less people in the parks will mean less queues but we really don't want food options reduced. We know that it's been mentioned before how some of the restaurants etc close early during the winter. With that in mind we will keep checking the DLRP food guide for suitable places if they are open at the time . May just have to pack some extra goodies in the hand luggage if we can!!
Many thanks from Wifey

Hi Wifey

I share the views of other posters to this thread - I'm sure you will be fine and that the French infrastructure will be geared up to offer extra support to visitors.

As always there are things that we can do as tourists to minimise any danger to ourselves or our property. I would be very cautious about any conspicuous wealth on display, such as jewellery, designer goods, expensive cameras. Don't talk politics to anyone - I found when in Eire during the troubles that ignorance is bliss;) . If you have to take taxis to feel safe, spend the money.

Most important of all have a great time.
Regards
Rosie

good point... will have to remember to ask... or if anyone finds out beforehand can they post up?!?

I really really wouldn't worry. I have heard nothing about a curfew at DLRP.

I live in Paris and have seen no unrest at all. If it werent for my tv set I wouldnt know it was happening. The curfew is only in force in a handful of towns. Paris is not one of them nor is Marne La Vallee. The curfew is not for everyone. It is only for unaccompanied minors.

Have a great time at Disney Wifey :)

I'd not be worried. I'm sure Disney will ensure that everyone who wants to enjoy themselves will have a lovely time :)

I felt quite safe just going with my young DD. As others have said, if you hadn't heard about it on the news you wouldn't have a clue there was any problem - especially in DLP!!

It is my understanding that the curfews are for unaccompanied minors, so it shouldn't affect families.

With that being said, my family has asked that I change my plans. I myself and not concerned at all. I know the media is making it sound like all of Paris is up in flames, but I know that is very exagerated. I have been searching various travel forums and have not seen anything to make me believe that I would be unsafe either in Paris proper or at DL Paris.

But since my family is so worried as well as my friend's family, it looks like we may be cancelling. We purchased the cancellation insurance, so we won't lose out on too much money. I am determined to visit a Disney park outside of the USA so I'm currently pricing out vacations to Tokyo and Hong Kong. I have a personal goal to visit all the Disney parks during the Disneyland 50th anniversary celebration.

Wow got2travel. So sorry to hear that. I watched NBC news tonight and they didnt even MENTION France. Shows you how much they have been spinning it. Jordan had that horrible attack and France falls completely off the radar. I can tell that you know that there is no danger here so I wont go into that.

I am going to DLP tmo to check out the Christmas decorations. Can't wait!

Thanks for the info MorganB, it's good to know that the curfew applies to unaccompanied minors!
We are still looking forward to our trip and hope to have a wonderful time once we arrive. Glad there's been no problems near DLRP and hopefully most folks will still travel to the resort and enjoy it all decorated for Christmas!! :lovestruc Wifey

haven't heard the news today but yesterday things seemd to calming down. We were there for Halloween weekend when it seems to have started & were staying in Bussy St Georges. Went to thehalloween party on Sunday 30th and getting the train back to Bussy St Georges at about 11.30pm there were about 20 soldiers on baord with their guns 'poised' which surprised us a bit but we thought nomore of it. We knew nothingabout the trouble until we got bacvk to the UK and heard news on the Wednesday morning. We're going back mid December and not at all concerned although having said that we're staying in the Disneyland Hotel. On iour last trip we got the train from the airport. Myadvice would be to get the VEA and stay within DLP & the village, although as i said, I think it's starting to calm down.

We are going what ever I have talked to some people who live locally and they say there is no trouble near disney. The only thing is if you plan to use the metro or rer at night they were reccomending not to. The VEA should be fine as it uses main roads.

more trouble last night. But like i and most the people on here have said,as long as u dont use the underground trains or take any major detours from DLP at night, then its never going to be a problem.and, like i said, its a positive if anything.
Dont worry about it,hope you have a good holiday.

There havent been any incidents on the metro. No reason to avoid them. Just use the same common sense you would use when traveling on public transportation as you would in any large city. The main threat is pickpocketing which has been the case for a long long time.

We have decided to use the VEA once we arrive at CDG and are now waiting in anticipation to see DLRP , just been reading Diberry's trippies and looking at her photos. Must say they look fantastic and the CMs seen fairly organised. The Christmas decorations look amazing and now we want to be there too, only another 13 days to go :goodvibes :goodvibes
So thanks for putting our minds at ease everyone , :lovestruc :lovestruc Wifey

Thought I would add my thoughts...........

The rioting is predominantly in the poorer areas of Paris, where the residents are mainly African immigrants. As many have rightly stated, DLP is miles away and extremely isolated. Disney have sufficient staff taking care of security to avoid any overspill, I am sure.

Also, remember that it is France. The French are a pretty volatile nation and they react very differently to the likes of us in the UK. Like the strikes and blockades that seem to happen quite regularly, this will be forgotten as quickly as it started.

We go on 16th Dec and can't see it affecting us in any way.
