Hello,
I am sure all this is very confusing. We have been to Disney 30+ times in last 30 years, owned a rental home in Emerald Island Resort, done the timeshare tours to get free tickets, and stayed in numerous homes and condos over the years.

My percentages may be a little off, but I would say that only 15 to 20 percent of all homes and condos in the area are timeshares. There are literally thousands and thousands of condos and homes within 20 miles of Disney. The majority are not timeshares.

If you want a Timeshare presentation just search google for "orlando timeshare offers" and you will get all you want.

If you just want a home or condo to rent for a week or so, you have a choice of going directly through an owner at sites like www.vrbo.com www.vacationalrentals.com www.greatrentals.com www.villas2000.com
or you can go through a company that rents homes. There are many many of these companies. If you google "Disney rental homes and condos" you will get hundreds of sites, most of which are companies wanting to rent you a home.

Many of us on these boards support renting direct from the owner as it is usually less expensive and owners are great to deal with...

Hope this helps....good luck...Grandpa Ted

Thanks for the information. It is very confusing. This is our first
family vacation and of course we want it to be great. My husband
would rather stay in one of these pool homes, instead of a hotel,
but some of the stories I heard, with smelly rooms, and dirty carpets
yuck, I dont want to run into that mess.

Forgot to post, we arent interested in listening to a presentaton,
we dont want anything to do with timeshare. Just 2 weeks in Fla.

Moonstar,
I think if you take some time and review a number of posts on this site over the last year that involve rental homes, you will find the vast majority to be extremely positive. The convenience of your own pvt heated pool, pvt bathroom for mom and dad, lots of space to spread out just can't be beat.
The purpose of this board is NOT to recommend individual properties, but rather give you choices.

If you would look for a home in Emerald Island Resort, Wyndam Palms, Indian Creek, Rolling Hills, Oak Island, or Winsor Hills, these are all just off hwy 192 and within 10 minutes of Disney property. If you could let us know when you are going, number of adults and children and how many nights, I am sure folks on this board could help with prices, size of home and so on. With just a little internet skill (and that is how you got to this board) you can shop for a great home for you and your family...

Good Luck...Ted

Would like to go in Dec. Husband wants to spend Xmas in Fla.
2 adults, 3 kids. 9, 10, 1 1/2, right now, but at time of travel
it will be 9, 11, and 2.

14 days

Interested in 3 bedroom pool home, with tv, cable, dvd or vcr.
game room private pool, washer dryer. We are renting car.

Hello again..
Christmas at Disney is very special. The parks are converted to a Holiday Gala.

FYI Christmas is the busiest time at Disney and the prices of homes will be at peak rates...but still a great deal as the hotels will also have rates high. Going for 14 days will also set you up for good rental response from the owners. At Christmas many people rent for two weeks and the owners love to have two week rentals at Christmas.

A 3 bedroom two or 3 bath sounds perfect for you. Since you are going at Christmas, I am going to add a couple of other housing communities that are just a little farther from Disney but allow you easy driving to the parks.
These communities are Indian Ridge Oaks, Briar Grove, Bridgewater Crossing, Oak Point, and Pinewood. All these are located so you do not have to travel to Disney on hwy192 which can get very busy at Christmas.

One more question...would you prefer a home with a pool or a condo with a community pool. My only concern is the 1 1/2 year old. With your own pool make sure there is a security fence on the pool deck and a security buzzer on the sliding door to the pool. Little ones wander fast and anywhere they can find. YOU DO NOT want to worry about them getting close to the pool without supervison. A condo will give you a big heated pool but a short walk to the pool. A home with a pool and even a whirlpool can be great, but again it needs to be secure for the little one.

If you would like to PM us, feel free or just keep asking good questions here...

On the www.vrbo.com site when you get to Florida and then to Central Florida click on the "Kissimmee" rental homes and all the first communities I mentioned will be on the list. If you click on "Davenport" the second list will come up. You can ask vrbo to list the homes by bedroom size from smallest to largest which will help you sort homes. I would check the homes first that have an "availability calendar." If Christmas is taken no need to look further.

Good Luck and have fun...one you get the hang of this you can look for places anywhere in the world at great rates.

Ted

Thanks for all your information, I have a lot of looking to do.
As far as the pool is concerned, my husband would like our own pool.
At home we go right to our pool from our sliding glass door to deck
with pool right around it. No problems with the little one, we just keep it
locked and have a little alarm.

Our dates are not defenite but thinking dec 13-27. Ive gotten
rates value up to the 20th and high after that. So I guess Ill go and check
those out you gave me. Thanks Again.

Spicey, our Skyauction trip did not require a timeshare tour. I thought that was true of any of their bids unless it was noted in the auction.

We have really enjoyed staying in condos and pool homes and we also don't have any interest in doing the tour at any facility.

Tons of condos and pool homes close to Disney in Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms, Emerald Island, etc. Sometimes too many to choose from! Those do not involve presentations either.

Hi,
one other thought that may have occured to you is to consider 4 bedroom homes...there are very few newer homes that are 3 bedroom. They have all gone to 4 and more bedrooms except the condos...Ted
