I am traveling in Nov/Dec with my cousin who is confined to a wheelchair (spina bifida). They are opting to get a regular room instead of the handicapped room (apparently he doesn't need the shower?) but they wanted to make sure that the door widths are the same in a handicapped room as opposed to a standard room. Thanks!

Yes, all of the doors are the same size.

Differences between regular rooms and room with roll in showers are;

- obviously the bathroom ;)
- because of the bigger size of the bathroom, the 'living room' has less space. (all of the rooms have the same total sq feet, so bigger bathroom equals less room somewhere else)

All the room entry doors are at least 36 inches wide. Almost all ECVs are only 24 inches wide or less. There are two "levels" of accessible rooms, those with roll-in showers and those with a tub with grab bars. All will also have a raised toilet with grab bars.

Just an FYI though- the non-accessible rooms are difficult to navigate for someone who cannot transfer out of a w/c and the bathroom itself will be impossible to access. The accessible rooms have sliding pocket doors to the bathroom and a wider entrance vs. the smaller open/close bathroom door in a regular room. I've visited my kids at WDW who had a regular room at Pop and barely made it in the door without knocking into one of the beds. I would still opt for an accessible room even if he doesn't plan to use the roll-in shower, just to make it easier to traverse the room and to park the w/c, as well as to even get into the bathroom. ---Kathy

I have suggested they use the handicapped rooms, but 4 of them are staying in the room, so 1 king bed for 4 people isn't gonna work. I have also tried to convince them to do 2 rooms but they don't want to spend the extra money (don't get me started!) :sad2:

Hi. We have stayed at AllStar Movies and my daughter uses a wheelchair (she also has spina bifida). We also stayed in a regular room due to needing the double beds (versus the one king). It is manageable but it will be alittle tight spacewise. We mainly were in the room for sleeping at night and getting ready for the park in the morning. It really wasn't that bad. Now, the only negative was that it is difficult to get her in and out of the bathroom. The space is small. But, we did manage.
