Has anyone had a standard room at the AKL that disappointed them? We will be there June 4th-9th. This will be our first time staying at the AKL. I booked a standard room at a great price. Just curious about the standard rooms? :wave2:

I am interested in hearing the answer to this question as well. And Rattat, when you return, please post and let us know how your room was. We are going to be staying at AKL June 23 - July 1 and have booked a standard room as well. I wish we were in a savannah room, but the price difference stopped us.

Sure thing, I'm anxious to see how everything turns out on this trip. I'll let you know about the room when we get back. :cheer2:

We stayed in a Standard room the first time we stayed at the AKL. The room was great, but the view was nothing to write home about. We had a good view of the parking lot. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room so it was no big deal.

The rooms are the same no matter if you are staying in Standard, Pool, or Savanah. It's just the view that changes.

DH and I had room 3125 in mid-April. As far as a standard room goes, we thought it was great! Right off the lobby (but not so close you heard noise) on the Ostrich trail - king bed - view of the handicap/short-term parking lot. It was on the 3rd floor (the flooor the lobby is on).

The only standard rooms I've heard that might be disappointing are those near the bus stop, just because there is a lot of foot traffic going by. Ostrich Trail is on the opposite side of the lodge. If you're content with the standard room, I would put on your room request to be away from the bus stop.

When we stayed there a few weeks ago we kept thinking we felt sorry for the people w/3rd floor rooms right next to the bus stop- they have a cement wall right outside their window and we would get back from the parks late and there would be kids running and screaming as they walked back to the lobby. But then a lot of parents let their kids run and scream down the interior hallways .

If I had a standard room I think it would be cool to have one where your door opens to the lobby. -Stephanie

We were in room 5102 last week. 5th floor. We requested a quiet room, and we got it!

There was sort of a wall on our balcony so we did not see any parking lot, just thatched roofs over the wall. I liked it. It made the balcony very private and quiet. The room itself was big enough for us, very quiet (we did hear a screaming child in the room above us, but honestly, that was not the fault of the resort or the room...this kid was the loudest kid I've ever heard in my entire life. I'm pretty sure people way down the hall heard him too...I'm actually pretty sure people enjoying their day at Animal Kingdom park heard him. He was very loud....)

We were right in the center overlooking the lobby when we stepped out our front door, and we were very close to the elevator.

I'd definately stay in this room again. :)

Don't worry about not having a Savanna view. We found that the public viewing areas were not very crowded and we saw plenty of animals from the public areas. One night, we sat out on one of the overlooks in rocking chairs and no one else even came by. :confused3

AKL is a great hotel. It's now my favorite and I am really hoping to get back there again sometime late next year. :)

I've stayed at AKL a few times, always in a savannah room. This past trip, I got a great rate for a standard room, but it was over $100 more per night for savannah so I booked the standard. I'd read a lot on these boards about people getting free upgrades from standard to savannah so I just hoped for the best and figured I was happy enough with my rate that it didn't really matter. When I got there, I asked about an upgrade and was told $60 per night for savannah and $10 per night for pool. I figured $60 was better than $100 per night for savannah, but still more than I wanted to spend. I ended up paying for the upgrade to pool and was glad I did.

My DH and I stayed in one of the 3rd floor rooms right next to the bus stop when we celebrated our engagement. We used our balcony every morning too. We did hear families on their way to the bus stop but it was happy noise and we only heard it when we were out on the balcony or had the door open. There were so many places to see animals at this resort that we were definitely NOT disappointed in not being able to see them directly from our room. I was hoping of course for one of those upgrades but when we entered our room we were certainly pleased. Good size, beautiful furnishings and CLEAN(really the most important thing to me) I've stayed at the YC,WL, Cont., all with great views but really this resort was so special it didn't matter. There is tons of vegitation planted in these areas to make them as pretty as possible and I wouldn't hesitate to book standard here again. I also got a great deal on standard and couldn't pass it up.

Like Tinkaroo posted we too had third floor rooms in Ostrich Trail. They were wonderful rooms and very quiet. We did use our balcony in the evenings mostly and it wasn't so bad. I watched the bus pick up guests out front who were headed to the cruise ship early one morning. Kind of neat. Initially we were put in those rooms on the fifth floor that have no balcony. Only a cut out of the thatched roof. We did not like this at all and asked to be moved. Unlike the enclosed balconies at the WL these do not get much air and it was extremely humid during our stay. They were very gracious about relocating us and did everything while we were at the parks. We love AKL and would definitely book standard again.
