Are all seatbelts/bars checked before ride starts?

Sorry, this may seem like a weird question, but I could swear I read on here somewhere someone talking about how they weren't strapped in yet and the ride started!!!!?????

Makes me a little nervous esp. with little kids. Do the CM's check to make sure everyone is buckled or the lap bars are down before they start the ride???

most rides that little kids can ride do not have seatbelts. some will have a lapbar that you just pull toward your lap. no biggie. some rides are continuous, if i remember, so no checking. like peter pan - you step onto the moving walkway, and get into your ship. really little ones are not doing thrill rides, so i would not worry. disney is very safe!

A few of the not so rough rides even have bars that lower themselves. Peter Pan and the Haunted Mansion come to mind.

Disney does check your seatbelts on the rides that are scary. At Test Track they even go so far as to have a seperate little stop after you are in your car so the CM can check you are buckled. Dinosaur does that too.

And once your seatbelt is locked you can't undo it until the ride is over. :)

newer attractions that require restraints won't even start if it detects one of them aren't in place.

I can think of a couple where someone may get confused. I know at Indy in DLR and I believe RNR in DHS loads you into one spot and then moves you to another and can do so without your seatbelt locked in, but the inspection point is where the vehicle first stops, not where you load.

I think that RnR was actually the ride I had read about which kind of freaked me out, but what you said explains it then. My children will be 3, 6, and 9 when we go, and I was just looking at some of the pictures on AllEars and still wondering about some of the rides that don't have seatbelts and how they go about making sure everyone is secure! Seeing that Space Mountain is only single file with a lap bar makes me a little nervous about taking my 6 yr. old on...

Granted, I'm not much of a roller coaster person, so I don't know how the usual roller coaster restraints work, so I'm sure that I'm worrying about nothing

Any other explanations of the restraints/ safety on these rides would be great! Thanks!

Space Mountain also has a separate lap bar check point before you move on.

If you watch the Cast Members on the "scary" rides, they do hand signals to verify that all systems are ready to go. Only then does the Cast Member controlling the "launch" set the vehicle in motion. They do it fast but they do have a system in place.

A suggestion - make sure your children know the rules - arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. No standing up. Listen to the Cast Members. And Mom - you listen to the Cast Member too. It's not going to do a lot of good if you are the one not buckled in properly because you were worried about your kids. Kind of like on airplanes - if the oxygen masks drop, you are supposed to take care of yourself and then take care of your kids.

I agree that Disney does a good job of making sure everyone is safe.

However, I just thought I would share what happened to us on Space Mt last year. It was our first trip as a family. As we got into our "rocket" or whatever, I was in front, then my DD6, and my DS 10 in the back. I asked the CM to make sure my daughter's lap bar was secured, because I wasn't really in a position to do it. He was kind of snotty when he said, "okay, but if she can't do it herself then she shouldn't be riding". I thought his remark was unneccessary. She was tall enough to ride, I just wanted him to double check. I suppose they get tired of everyone asking, but geez.

She loved the ride, but I almost lost my backpack on it!

"okay, but if your backpack can't stay in it itself, then it shouldn't be riding".

;)
:rotfl:

Some of the attractions, such as Star Tours and Soarin' they can tell electrically if all the lap belts are hooked up. Others, especially the roller coaster types, they will go through and push or pull on all the restraint bars to check them.

Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved if a Guest gets injured on an attraction? And it may also have to be shut down for the rest of the day for special insptections.
