Are all Disney Stores closing?

We've lost 2 DisneyStores in our city, now down to 1. There's another one in a nearby city. Last week we went for their big sale and it was not the D. Store that I remember. It was in a totally different location and it was not the huge bright store that it use to be. It was in a small store and there was no movie screen or even Tvs showing Disney movies. No mountain of stuffed animals, just small racks of a few plush. There was mostly clothes and minimal toys. And worse than that, no cute statues or animatronic display characters! Are they all closing down?

I heard they've all been sold to Children's Place, but that's just a rumor.

it is official. As of october 1st the childrens place is taking over all of the disney stores unless your city has a world of diney, Like on 5 th avenue NCY, Those stores are run by disney world.

I personally hate TCP, as do my two princesses. We actually drove 100 miles TWICE this weekend to go to two different Disney stores. Ours was closed down last year. What's sad is that since it left the location has not been filled at all. Right now it's a temp location for some clothing store I've not heard of at all. It would be different if TCP had cute clothes but my girls think it's "yuck". As in "I wouldn't be caught wearing that for love or money" yuck. Hope they just manage it silently and keep the Disney theme. But wait, that's just anothr reason to drive to O-town!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Oh, say it isn't so! We have two disney stores in our area and my kids love them. We aren't such huge fans of TCP and I'm hoping that TCP doesn't make too many changes to the Disney store.

:(

Does anyone know if the merchandise will be TCP or Disney? I feel the same way about TCP stuff-- it isn't that great.

I work for the Disney Store and it is NOT official as of October 1st! The truth is there is a letter of intent from the Childerens Place to buy the Disney Stores, but there is nothing final yet! They are still working out all the details. I am leaving for WDW on October 1st and I have been told I will still be a Disney Cast Member at that time.

Bad news!! How can Disney sell out like that? Are Park Hoppers still going to be for sale at TCP/Disney stores? Will the catalogue stay the same?

They won't last if the Children's Place buys them. I hate to sound like a snob, but TCP has cheap and tacky clothes. What a shame!

Terry, so IF they do officially buy them out, you will no longer be a cast member?

I have a friend that just started at the disney store last week, and they told her that CP was official on Oct. first as well.

I sure hope it isnt true!!!

I like most of the clothes at TCP. I have never had a quality problem with anything there. As with any store, there will always be some things I do not like, but overall TCP has nice stuff. As for the tacky clothes, go visit Limited Too and Abercrombie...those stores have tacky stuff and it is also way to "grown up" looking for kids!!!!
We all have our own opinions................

maci... Disney is the only company I know that calls their employees Cast Members, if we no longer work for Disney, we will just be employees.

That so stinks :( The World of Disney is opening up in NYC but it is an all day event for us since it is about 45 minutes away :( UGH,

Well ever since the redid the Disney STores I must admit the magic is gone :( Now it looks like just a store when in the past I got the feel of the "world" when I went in there.

this is pretty sad news, if its true. we have one Disney store in our area and i've always loved doing a lot of my christmas shopping there. Plus, with the music and decor, its always such a happy place to visit.

F1Julie, how is Disney "selling out"? They are not great at running retail stores. They lose a ton of money each year. It's a business & if business is that bad, something has to be done. The other option is to close the Disney Stores all together. Is that what you'd rathher see happen? Not me.

Hannahryan, whether you like TCP or not, to say the Disney Stores won't last if they buy them is crazy. Have you looked at TCP's financials recently? They've performed above & beyond market expectations. You & others may not like their stuff{I don't shop there}, but they're obviously doing something right, as is evidenced by their strong market performance. I personally would rather have Disney sell the stores to a solid, performing company who will use the stores to increase their profits. This means doing what they can to make the stores better. They won't close them or change them to TCP stores because the Disney brand is way too powerful & advantageous. They know this. My belief is that there will be changes to some extent, but basically the Disney Stores will just be run by a different corporation at the top. I think the cast members will experience the biggest changes, not the guests. The cast members are the ones who may see certain benefits change or disappear completely.

I could be wrong. But I'm not that worried. If the Stores were bought by a "head to head" competitor like Warner Bros or Universal or some company like that, then I'd worry about them buying the Stores just to close them to eliminate the competition. But TCP doesn't fall into that category. They're looking to improve profits through additoon, not subtraction.

3DisneyNuts, I was going to e-mail, but you have it blocked....just so you know, there will be CHARACTERS at the World of Disney Store in NYC. The world of disney dot com website lists when you can see them. Plus there is a fancy princess coronation program you can purchase if you have girl munchkins.

I am hoping to take the train up to NYC to visit that store SOON!

Our local one has signs up hiring for all positions. They are Disney hiring signs. Why would they have these signs up 3 days before October first if they were planning on closing?

I heard that another company might buy them, but still run them as they are.

I don't know though. It seems weird to be trying to hire new TDS employees 3 days befroe you sell your business.

Regardless of whether the sale becomes official or not, the stores still have to hire for the holiday season and now is the key time to hire for the holidays. If the stores are officially sold or not has no bearing on keeping staffing at the appropriate levels.

As posted by Terry S, there is a letter of intent to buy the US stores. The deal has not been finalized. I am a Cast Member also and am going to WDW in just over a week - we are currently still cast members.
