Are all cruisers non-smokers?

It's a terrible habit, I know. Where can you smoke? I've read the "on open decks, and on the verandas of your cabin and in clubs". But exactily where is that?
Anywhere on a deck, or in certain areas? If we get a cabin without a veranda, but close to a deck (money's tight right now and I really need some time off) can we just go outside and smoke? Please, no lectures or flames.

I wish all cruisers were non-smokers, but since you are apparently a smoker, I'll spare you the diatribe.

To answer your questions, you may smoke on your verandah if you have one. You can smoke anywhere outdoors on Decks 4, 7, 9, and 10. And you can smoke in the Beat Street nightclubs (Magic) and Route 66 nightclubs (Wonder).

oh my god...
that sounds like hell on earth for me, a person who dies if even one person is smoking within a mile of me....
that means that all the places i want to go (nightclubs, etc) will be smoke filled?...
perhaps i should think it out again......
hmmmm.....
someone mentioned something about another cruise line with a no smoking ship...

Does that mean if I have a lounge chair by the pool someone right next to me can light up???? Dont they have a seperate area for just non smokers???

All open decks allow smoking. Yes you may smoke at the pool areas. If you need an ash tray there, any of the servers may bring you one. Of course that is true at any hotel I have ever been to as well, and in my 3 cruises I have never found it to be a problem or an issue.

The Oceaneer's Lab and Oceaneer's Club are on Deck 5.

We stayed on Deck 2 and when my husband wanted a smoke he went to the lounge on Deck 3 or outside on deck 4. The lounge is now non smoking however.

First, a suggestion for smokers who are getting an inside cabin for budgetary or any other reason:
If you are getting a Cat. 11 cabin, get one as far aft as possible on Deck 7 so that you can go right outside on the "secret aft verandah." If you are self-conscious about bothering others, the "secret deck 8 overlook" is even better. I have details on both of those spots on my website at www.castawayclub.com. If you are going for a Cat. 9 and are on Deck 2, it's only 2 floors up to Deck 4, with lots of exterior areas.
Now, a report from a non-smoker who is extremely allergic to smoke (I thought I was going to suffocate on Sovereign of the Seas--Disney is MUCH better for non-smokers than RCCL). The only place I am ever bothered by smoke is the clubs because there is not enough space or ventilation. One of the non-smoking sections in Wavebands/Rockin Bar D is literally right in front of the smoking section, so it is very smoky. We sit off to the side, but it's still pretty bad. The only thing we go in there for is the 70s Party...I take my drugs so I can deal with it for that because I love that party.
Cadlillac lounge is way too smoky too, for the same reasons, plus there is no enforcement of the non-smoking areas. We discovered this when smokers plopped down next to us and, not seeing an ashtray, simply brought one over from the smoking section. Normally I am not shy about saying something, but we were just about ready to leave anyway so we did.
You can have problems if you have a chainsmoker on the verandah next to you, but this has only happened to us a couple of times (actually, it was a cigar smoker--ugh!). Mostly, we are able to enjoy our verandah when we have one without being assailed by smoke.
In theory, someone can smoke next to you at the pool. In practice, we've really not found this to be much of a problem. It seems to happen more often at the adult bach on Castaway Cay, so we try to choose beach chairs that are not right next to others.
Disney is very responsive...they get applause from me for making the Promenade Lounge non-smoking based on guest feedback. Because it is an open area, located off a main hallway, the area was smoky and awful for walking through. Now it is so nice!
So yes, there is some potential for problems if you are sensitive to smoke, but overall it is not bad and Disney is much more nonsmoker-friendly than RCCL.

For non-smokers it IS bad that smoking is allowed in the adult clubs. Last month I found Cadillac Lounge SO smoke-filled that I never walked through its entrance in the evening. I was told the air filtration system needed servicing. I went to Wavebands, ending up with red eyes, dry throat and cough, and my clothes smelling like cigarette smoke. There's no way to avoid coming out smelling like you are a smoker. I sympathize with those addicted to nicotine, but it is unfortunate that non-smokers can not enjoy the adult clubs without unpleasant, unhealthy consequences. I also was in an elevator with a man who positively REEKED of cigarette smoke (from breath to hair to clothing) standing close next to me in a full elevator. I think the "secret deck 8 overlook" is a good place to direct smokers. Too many of us non-smokers like to relax in the clean air of Deck 7 aft ;-).

To "disneyholic family" - Carnival's Paradise is the ONLY totally smoke-free cruise ship and it's strictly enforced. Even the crew are non-smokers. But it's NOT Disney!

Thank you for your true information and not flaming me. :) There are a few cabins open really close to the open deck on 7. Thanks for telling me about the one on 8, too.

I had to chuckle at taswira's post. (all in fun, of course) "can not enjoy the adult clubs without unpleasant, unhealthy consequences. " I know you ment the second hand smoke, but but what you said conjered up fantasies of drinking disney alcohol and not getting a hangover. WOW, the power of disney magic and pixie dust! LOL (please take that the right way. In no way am I picking on your post. I just got a chuckle out of the vision it put in my mind as I read it.;))

Thanks for your help!

That's okay, "idontknow." Yes, I DID mean the second-hand smoke! Guess I wasn't thinking of the alcohol because about the only time I drink alcohol is for one "drink of the day" special.

Maybe someday there will be a nice "smoker's lounge" on the ship if there continues to be a lot of smokers. You never know . . .

i am truly disappointed and seriously considering cancelling...
i simply can't understand why they couldn't have the lounges no-smoking....are they that desperate to generate more dollars from smokers who might buy a drink to go with that cigarette?....

i was so looking forwards to those adult clubs...
now i understand why in almost every review i've read, people said the adult clubs were very underpopulated....no doubt because of the smoke.....

i assume that at least studio sea is non-smoking.....right???....

i can't believe it.....i have to seriously think whether spending thousands of dollars for 3 nights of smoked filled rooms isn't a reallly stupid thing to do.....

time to try to talk the kids out of this cruise...
though if i mention the word smoke, it won't be very hard to do...

i wonder where the paradise sails...
it might not be disney but at least i won't be held captive in a confined space with people who by definition are inconsiderate of others.... (as demonstrated by your story of the people who smoked in the no-smoking area)....

oh well......

I have taken 4 DCL cruises and about 5 other non disney cruises. By far, Disney handles the smoke better than any other line I have been on. I have not had smoke be an issue on DCL and I hate smoke. Yes, ocassionally you will get a whiff while up on deck but all in all people seem to respect other people's space.

Even though I would prefer a non-smoking Disney ship, I realize that smoker's have a right to experiences the clubs as well as non-smokers. I would not cancel my trip for fear of a smoke problem. Especially coming from Europe, Disneyholic family, where smoking is out of control I am sure you won't find it that much of a problem.

Just my 2 cents.

mmouse....
that's really the point....
if we can pick and choose where to spend our time why would we pick a smoke filled room....
now that i've been warned, i would have only myself to blame for the inevitable disappointment we'll all feel when we can't take advantage of something we were very much looking forwards to......
which is why i'm over in the carnival cruise lines site, checking out the paradise....

If you are truly bothered by smoke I would suggest going on Carnival Paradise (which as the name implies is the non smokers paradise) because NO ONE can smoke on that ship ANYWHERE! You actually have to sign a waiver stating that if you are caught WITH anything to smoke or are caught smoking you will be put off at the next port and getting home is YOUR problem!!! Even the staff on the ship have to be non-smokers! The ship is completely smoke free! There is NO room ANYWHERE that you can smoke in! And they take it very seriously!!!
If you are that worried about it I would maybe think about switching to the Paradise even though it isnt Disney they have great kids programs there as well. The only draw back to the Paradise is it only goes on 7 and 10 day trips out of Miami!!
Just some food for thought! It is a beautiful trip and it was hard to go back to a smoking ship after the non-smoking ship. I wish ALL lines would follow suit!!!

OMG people. Get a grip.

I'm not a smoker ... but DH is and BARS are the ONE place that smokers are free to enjoy thier vice.

I think the fact that the restaurants , rooms, theateres, and most inside areas are smoke free should appease.

And YES, Disney does have to think about smoking because a lot of people do it.... and most BARS do allow smoking.... at least where I live.

Why anyone would consider not going on a cruise (unless you are allergic) because a few adult nightclub (BAR) areas have smoking in them ..... well .. I just don't understand it.

Now before you kill me ... I hate smoke .... DH is not allowed to smoke in the house.... we always get non-smoking rooms when we go somewhere and he goes outside or to the BAR for a smoke.

But .... if we go out to a BAR ... I expect it. After all it is a BAR and a lot of people who smoke, drink. People who like to smoke have a hard time not doing it while drinking.

I'm a big woman .... and some people may not like looking at me in a bathingsuit ... in fact, they may find it offensive ... but hey, does that mean that I should not get to go swimming?

I'm not saying that non-smokers SUCH AS MYSELF do not deserve areas where we can be free from the smoke ... and it seems that on DCL there are plenty of those types of areas.

I'm only saying that people who DO smoke ... deserve an area to be able to smoke if they want.......... whether you agree with it or not.

And .. thinking about all the places on the ship that are smoke free ... about 80% it seems .... let them have thier 20%.

Ok .. slam me now.

wdwobsessed...

i'm not going to slam you...
this has only to do with me and my family....
i was very very very much looking forwards to the adult nightclubs....
that was at the top of my list.....
and now i find out that i won't be able to go there....
i'm glad i found out now, but i'm very very very very disappointed...
i was so looking forwards to this cruise..
i'd much rather go with disney than anyone else..
and i kind of doubt i exactly fall into the typical carnival cruise passenger category...
at least with disney i have the disney part of it in common with others...
but the smoke is a serious issue...
i'm not allergic...i just can't stand it.....
neither can my kids..
and i know they'll be even more disappointed than i am not to be going on this cruise...it was their idea after all.....

WDWO, thank you!! you are so right.

And disneyholic I understand your concerns too. But on a Disney ship the nonsmokers FAR outnumber the smokers, at least on the 2 cruises I've been on. I confess DH and I both smoke, at least I like to smoke when I drink, he is a heavier smoker than I, but we are both quite considerate about where we smoke. We had a verandah cabin and did not smoke on the verandah because we overheard our next door neighbors making a comment. So we always went up to Deck 10 where there is always a fresh breeze blowing, or to Deck 4 and made sure we did not invade a nonsmokers space. And yes we did smoke in the bars (but didn't go much to the bars because we had late dinner and were too tired after dinner to go anywhere) but that is allowed. And I realize that is a disappointment if you wanted to enjoy the adult clubs, but there are very few refuges anymore for smokers. I agree, it is a dirty nasty addiction and I am sorry I ever started smoking (thinking seriously about quitting too but DH probably won't).

Anyway, that is all beside the point, but you should be aware that smoking is not rampant on a Disney ship like it is on some other cruise lines. But if you feel that strongly do check out Paradise, I am sure it is clean and beautiful.
