Are ADR's needed for end of August?

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, I couldn't' find it. We will be going to Disney for a week at the end of August and have had ADR's since 180 days out. We added on 4 nights at Universal afterwards. We have never been, so we are super excited.

Anyway, are ADR's needed for a family of 4 at the end of August? Am I going to get laughed at just walking up to a sit down restaurant without a reservation? Should I try and make some now, or take the chance?

TIA :)

Following. I've had the same worries. Everyone here says you can just make the reservation the morning of the day you want it?

With the exception of character meals, which you may want to book ahead, but that's just what I have gathered from reading here.

well, i made an adr for confisco grille two years ago and when i got there at 2:30, there were only one table in use at the time.

but you never know if you need one.

The only place I would think about making a reservation would be at Mythos if you are going during the normal lunch time hours.
And that is made the morning of or the night before.
This is in the October time period.

We are a family of 3 and have never made an ADR at Universal (4 trips). Never had more than a 20-30 minute wait at any City Walk restaurant during trips in May, Sept and October.

To be safe though I would wait until early August and ask again when the summer crowds have had time to report back. With the new hotels will come more guests staying and eating at the parks and City Walk.

You don't need to worry about them right now though. Even if you do make them to ease your mind or cement your plans you shouldn't need to worry until 2 weeks-10 days out.

Maybe we are in the minority but we make dinner reservations. We always go in August & I just made mine on open table.

We've gone to Universal late August the last two years. Reservations have never been needed because we stay onsite, and you get priority dining or something if you're an onsite guest (just show your room key). The only place that's ever had a wait is Mythos, and it's never been more than 10 minutes for us - often there's no wait.

If you're not an onsite guest you might get a 15-30 minute wait depending on the time of day. Reservations are overkill... there's no need to keep a schedule at Universal.

we are going Mid/late August and have made 2 reservations .One is for a character dinner , the other is for Mama Dellas .The only reason we made Mama Dellas is because last time we visited in August, they were packed and the waits were ridiculous

Mama Dellas? I hadn't seen that one mentioned yet. Menu looks good. Is the food really good? My crew loves Italian, but I also live just about 30 minutes from New Haven CT, so I may be just a tad snobby about my Italian food....

Funny- I was worried about where we would eat- now I worrying about what we will have to skip. Sounds like there are a lot of good choices.

Mythos has been recommended to me so many times that I'm putting it on the "must" list.

Thanks for the info everyone. We are staying onsite, I didn't realize that you get priority seating at restaurants, that's a bonus :) I definitely want to eat at Mythos, and Mama Dellas sounds yummy too. Will have to look into those. I really didn't want to have to schedule too much so i'm glad to hear that reservations aren't necessary. I might make a couple for those two places just to be safe though.
