Aquatica in August

We are planning our first trip to Aquatica this August. Any comments of "do's & don'ts" are appreciated.

We visited Aquatica twice during the last week of August 2012, and then again on Christmas Eve day. We did the Banana Beach Cook-out on two of those visits, and ate at the Waterstone Grill on the other visit.

The Banana Beach Cook-out is the onsite buffet. You can either purchase it for a one-visit option, or an eat-all-day option. You can't take food from here back to your cabana (if you rent one) as everything must be consumed within the restaurant. They had hot dogs, pizza, garlic buns, pulled pork, chicken, watermelon, brownies......and a few more items too, but I'll be darned if I can remember what else. Food here was "okay"....not bad, not fabulous. We much prefered the options at the Waterstone Grill, where they had burger platters, chicken tenders, etc. and we could take our meals back to the cabana if desired.

We loved having a cabana and rented one for each of our visits. You get a wrist band showing you have a cabana rental, which the Aquatica staff member at the entrance to the cabana area will look for when you enter. The cabanas have canvas sides that can be tied shut and closed off if you want to change inside or catch an afternoon siesta out of the sun. The cabanas each have a ceiling fan, and come with a supply of towels, your own fridge, a large locker, and 12 bottles of Dasani water. A cabana rental also entitles you to 20% off all retail purchases in the park on the day of your visit, including photos.

Uluwatu cabanas are located right next to the wave pool, so we were just steps from the sand beach, several of the waterslides (including Omaka Rocka), and the Waterstone Grill. This area is also very close to the restrooms and the gift shop.

We paid $89 for a standard cabana the last week of August ($99 less the 10% passholder discount) and $30 for the cabana on Christmas Eve Day (again, a special passholder promo). Even at $99, its a great deal when you factor in the cost of a locker, 12 bottles of water, and at least 6 or 8 towel rentals. Then having the fridge is a big plus as well. Each standard cabana came with two reclining lounge chairs, two regular beach chairs, and a small table.
