Anyone have a good/bad result doing water exercises with Arthritis?

Yes! I have severe arthritis in my knee and feet. Walking in warm water is so much easier because I'm nearly weightless. I just finished up 5months of PT. I made minimal progress the first 8 wks, but when the switched me to aqua PT my recovery took off.

Used aqua therapy to recover from hip surgery. It was wonderful. One of our community centers has two pools, one at a lower temp for lap swimming and the second at a higher temp for therapy. I had exercises that I did and water walking. Much easier on your joints and so soothing.

One of my jobs is as a water fitness instructor! Our YMCA has specific arthritis classes in our warmest pool. I teach a deep water class which is also great because there is zero impact. I have a participant who had a double knee replacement. Post surgery he did the doctor ordered physical therapy in addition to my deep water class. He's recovered 100%!
Water allows you have complete range of motion and also offer resistance for building strength. Plus we have so much fun!
Go give it a try!

My mom has rheumatoid arthritis and has done the program in the warm water therapy pool for years. She is in her late 60's and in very good health other than the rheumatoid arthritis. She could always tell when she missed a few classes that she was a lot more stiff and sore. This last year she hasn't gone at all because she has retired and been busy with other things. She just had her yearly arthritis checkup and was told that she has lost quite a bit of her range of motion. My mom is postive it is because she has stopped going to the water classes, so she has signed back up and will be making it a priority again.

Greatly appreciate your replies. I've been in an Aquafit program at our YMCA for a few weeks now. I've only had 8 classes. My pain (feet) seems worse though. I think it's one of the exercises in the routine aggravating my arthritis. I've thought I'll skip that exercise and replace it with one of the others during the routine. Does this seem practical?
