AQR (Attraction Queue Return) Usage Reports

My wife and I weren't necessarily saying anything different, just in different ways. I am softspoken and nonconfrontational and was having no luck. I noticed several people in the parks with cane-chairs. My understanding is that those were formerly not allowed, but are now. I'm hopeful that will be a good alternative, since it is more lightweight than a rollator.

Hi. Wanted to give a data point, though its not great news. We were in the WDW parks 11/1-11/4. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, standing for long periods of time is painful and I get tired quickly. Feel free to look it up if you'd like more details. In the past I used DAS and rested in mothers rooms or first aid... anywhere I could lay down. I had difficulty requesting accommodations the first few days and became discouraged. Most CMs had no idea what I was asking for, one even tried to give me a wheelchair return time. I wound up sitting or laying in the queues, which was suboptimal for all involved. On the third day, my more assertive wife started going to the CM and saying something along the lines of "He needs to meet us at the split. How do you do that here?". This worked better, I could at least sit on a bench at the exit. Overall, the new system was a big step back for me. I hope it works better for others. I really feel like the CMs should be be better educated if this is now the process for most disabled folks. I don't want to sound like too much of a downer, we had a great time as a family, it was just hard on me.
I am sorry you had such a rough time. I have a friend with EDS who has been successful using a scooter to mitigate some of the symptoms. They need less rest breaks if they aren't walking. Would that be an option for you?

Just replying to this thread to bump it up.

I go in about six weeks or so and wonder if anyone has recent experience of using AQR? Is it best to go into guest services to ask how to navigate it or should you do the DAS call and they'll provide advice?

@PrincessV posted her recent experience with AQR on the other thread. https://www.disboards.com/threads/d...l-june-18-2024.3943880/page-532#post-66028008

You are welcome to call with any questions but realize that if you are not requesting DAS they can only provide basics about AQR. AQR is all handled at each attraction. Guest Relations will either offer an iPad to request DAS or direct to ask at each attraction so no need to stop there.

If you think DAS is the most appropriate accommodation for your needs, I suggest doing that call: worst case, they say no, but you’ll never know if you don’t call.

But no, neither the DAS nor GS folks will provide details on how AQR works because that process is based on things like the specific attraction’s layout, wait time, party size, and individual needs. If you want to use AQR, you’ll need to ask at the attraction entrance (just look for a CM with a tablet or phone-looking device - they’ll be around the Standby entrance, LL entrance, or both). Briefly explain your needs and party size and they’ll advise you about what’s available. I found it to be very easy t navigate!

Thanks, I think AQR should be fine for me. It's just a bit nerve wracking going up in a busy park and explaining your situation without falling all over your words! But I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens.

Just stopping by (as I’m sitting in the airport) to say that DH and I had some experience this past week with AQR. We had a horrific experience in PP our first night there. Posted wait was 40, but it was definitely closer to 60. We had just been at Mine Train, which posted 40 minutes but took 25. You also can’t see a large portion of the PP queue, so it can be deceiving…. We got in line and had people in front of us AND behind us encroaching on our personal space. NOT good. And there are no CMs IN the queue area until you get to the LL merge point (which is a common theme that we have complained about a few times).

After that experience, DH spoke to a CM in GR to say that trying the line at attractions with a longer actual wait than posted and no one in the queue was a no-go for him. The CM told him to do AQR (but called it return to queue). It worked well for the rest of the trip. Dh can make it about 20 minutes in a queue, so we utilize EE and take midday breaks to help manage things.

I will say the process is different at each attraction, and even at times at the same attraction with a different CM. But we were always able to get a return time so we could shop or eat or something while waiting to help manage things. I will say that had it not been just the 2 of us (there were times DS joined us, but those waits were short…) we may have been told to have him wait and alert us to when he reached the merge point so we could join him.

Overall, it made it a much less stressful trip.
