I had previously purchased 10-day MYW passes for DS & I (Hopper + water parks + No exp. options), as well as booked room-only reservations for CSR (we wanted AKL, but couldn't afford to stay there...). I called yesterday to see if I had a "code" or a "PIN" for a room discount for CSR (didn't), then had them check AKL for me for the same thing. There was a significant ($100+/night) discount for annual pass holders available for AKL, which I went ahead and took (we don't currently have AP's).

The CM said that when we arrive at WDW [before we physcially check into our room], we'll need to take our existing [unused] MYW passes to one of the Guest Services areas and have them exchanged/upgraded to AP's. Once we have the AP's in hand, we go back and check in at the discounted rate.

The total for the resort upgrade and going from a MYW pass to AP still comes out cheaper than what we started with. Does that sound right? Is this too good to be true?

Also, are there different kinds of Annual Passes?

You only need to upgrade one to an Annual Pass, you don't need to do both if you don't want to.
Mousesavers just posted a chart comparing MYW with APs...

There are also PAP (Premium Annual Passes) which include admissions to Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Disney Quest, Pleasure Island...

Congrats on all your savings

Just wanted to say congrats on the AP discount at AKL. When I called to book a AP discounted room there, they didn't have any available. My whole family loves that lodge to death. We're stay at WL instead, and am looking forward to a new experience.

The only loss is the water parks. To get those you'd have to jump to the PAP. Congrats on the AKL code. We've stayed there on AP rates half a dozen times. They always have a heftier discount than the other deluxe resorts.

Enjoy.

Thanks all! (I was just a little nervous, as it all sounds too good to be true!!) I think we'll be A-OK, now, as far as the upgrade situation, as the MYW tickets will be unused when we get there. We'll just pay any difference in price -- I think we're going to go with the PAP (and even with the PAP, our over-all rates are still lower than the original!) I still can't believe it!

DS will turn 10 during the year that our AP's are active. How do they track that? Say, if we made another trip AFTER his birthday, will the "birthday police" make us upgrade him to an "adult" pass?

No you will not need to upgrade his pass. As long as he's nine when you activate the pass, he's good to go for the whole year :teeth:

I just reread your post, I think if you have the plus option on your MYW ticket, you have to upgrade to a Premium Annual Pass.
Here's a link to some info on Deb's site:

Actually, I believe you only have to upgrade to the PAP if you have begun to use any of your days. If your MYW is brand new and unused, you can upgrade to a basic AP.

Doesn't the PAP (but not the AP) give you access to the water parks and DQ? .... or am I wrong about that?

We want unlimited access to EVERYTHING when we visit!

You are correct the PAP gives you access to the major theme parks, the water parks, DQ, Pleasure Island, and the Wide World of Sports
Have fun!!!
