Sorry for what I am sure is a (many time) repeat question, but the word combinations I used in searching didn't bring up the answer.:(

My DD14 will have an AP for the first time this trip. While most of the time, she will be with us, she will sometimes be entering a park on her own.

When (if) the biometric scan fails, we show our picture ID to the CM. She doesn't have a picture ID.

What will Disney accept in lieu of a picutre ID?

maybe a school id...does she have one of those with a picture???

Unfortunately no. The school doesn't require one. Maybe bring her yearbook with her picture in it;)

I would go to the DMV and get a state issued ID card. It may end up costing you about $30, but it will save a lot of hassle. Or, if she has a passport. I wouldn't recommend applying for a passport unless you have more than 6 months (they take a long time plus they cost more, but don't expire for 10 years).

I don't think you will have a problem. My son goes with his friend's family and never had a problem. Although, once we had one of his friends with us at Disney quest and his pass wouldn't work. We just took him to customer service and they asked him for all his information. They did want his ID, but being a child he didn't have one. All his info matched, so they reprinted a pass for him.

Assuming she will have a room key with her I would think if she had a problem with her AP, guest services would be able to confirm her home address etc.. through that.

If you can...get a state ID. We had trouble with a CM at Epcot who wanted to see ID for my then 8year old nephew. I explained that he didn't drive but she just stared at me with an empty look. She finally let us in and when I got home the first thing I did was to get my DD14 a state ID just to avoid any confusion since we don't have the same last name.

As I understand, I can accept any ID that has both a photo and a name on it. Drivers license, passport, library card, Sams Club card, school ID, etc.

However, the biometric scan doesn't usually fail. (make sure you always use the same hand when you do the scan)

Thank you all for some good advice. I am going to check this morning on whether or not we can get a state ID card.

My DW and I have had APs now for about 4 years and I know its the hand that fails:D Its not always easy to put your fingers in the same way/angle each time. Its weird how I have to SMOETIMES twist my arm at an angle to get the last light to go out.

If your daughter is going to be going into the parks alone, wouldn't it be safer for her if she did have some kind of ID anyways? What if something happened to her and she was unable to communicate, knocked unconscious, etc? (pardon my spelling, it's early and I haven't had a full dose of caffiene yet...)

One "tip" I have for the Biometric scanners ... don't step forward into the turnstyle and reach back to do the biometric scan. It makes it much harder to get a good reading. I know people are in a hurry to get into the park, but if you just stand back for the 1 or 2 seconds while you do the finger scan, then step forward and through the turnstyle, you'll probably be spending the same amount of time, perhaps less.

If the Biometric scan fails the first time, ask if you can try it again. Sometimes it works on the 2nd try when it didn't work on the first try.

(My personal opinion is that they could have come up with a scanner that's a lot easier to use, and also more accurate.)
