APs at WDW to resume sales by October.

Not likely. Probably very similar to the current APs. But Disney has surprised before! DL has way more locals and non-overnight folks visit, so their APs are set up a bit differently than WDW.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some similarities, e.g. more expensive passes can reserve more park days in advance when not staying onsite. One thing I'm sure of, though, is that prices will rise!

You may be right about the park reservations. Something interesting about the DL passes - at least on the surface some of them actually appear to be a tad cheaper than similar passes from the past. But then when you look at what is not included (most notably parking), it probably ends up being more expensive anyway.

Yep. I just hope they don't block out Saturdays/weekends on the less expensive APs!

I think management like the park pass reservation, so they might be contemplating keeping it for AP in Florida too going forward. In Paris there is a similar system too (3 bookings per pass at any time), and that resort is being used as a test ground (new paid FP).
Also, in Paris if you stay onsite, you don't need a parking reservation.
Something like this could work for WDW too. If they lower a bit the cost of the gold pass to account for the booking system (like they did for the DLR new passes) and allow free entry with an onsite stay, I guess many DVC members will be happy.

DLR got rid of parking (add on for a price) when they changed premium to signature + and created the signature tier, which had 2 weeks at Christmas blocked off. I forgot what year that was.

Parking (at an add on price) was grandfathered in to those passes that people had it already, as long as they kept renewing their passes.

Since we are going at the end of August, would we be able to apply the cost of the tickets towards an AP in the event they start selling again after our trip ends?

Most likely no. They have never allowed completely used tickets to be upgraded.

However, they have never been suspended for a year either so who knows if they will change the rules this time.

I just called yesterday to ask about the chances of upgrading our week of hoppers at the end of Sept. I'm hoping they'll be available to purchase well before Oct 1st...but Oct. 2nd is our last park day and we leave on the 3rd - I want to be able to upgrade at the START of our trip and not wait for our last 2 days. But anyway, the CM said we cannot upgrade ahead online or over the phone or after the trip is over. It will HAVE to be done onsite at Guest Relations before they expire.

That is incredibly disappointing in the event that new sales do not start before our trip is over. Interested what they will say in person. Not being able to upgrade to something that was not for sale seems to be just another money grab for those that continued to be patrons when they needed it most.

Not saying the CM was wrong but they are probably going off of the way things have been done in the past. The new AP's have not been released so they wouldn't know if there will be any different procedures yet.

You have never been able to upgrade tickets to the DVC AP by phone. I have always had to do it once I arrived at the park. But, they said they should be available before the 50th anniversary starts so I think anyone going in September has a great chance of being able to upgrade when there!

If you have had annual passes in the past they are renewing them on a case by case basis
i was able to renew mine as were my sister and and cousin. You have to call the pass holder number they take your info and in about 2 weeks they call you back and renew the pass. It is a gold pass as before, you still get memory maker and the only black out days are the 2 weeks over Christmas and the 2weeks around Easter/ Passover they did take something away but I don't remember what it was

this is what I thought, however this threads title implies they will start them up again in OCT. I could find nothing about it and was hoping I was missing it somehow. Poop. Thanks for the info.

Disney announced last week they will start up by the start of the 50th. . It was in the announcement for Magic Key program at DL.

Here is the link and the specific paragraph:

There’s a rumor floating around that they’ll be up for sale around the 16th of this month because Disney announced that magic bands won’t be included for renewals and new annual pass sales after that date. The other reason for the rumor is due to the start of the school year for many after the second half of August. Guess we’ll find out soon!
