April or October

We are trying to decide when to visit. How are the crowds the first week of April (spring break) vs. the last week of October (fall break)

IMO, there is no standard "fall break." Here in NY we have a few days off (Election Day, Veteran's Day) but no break. Spring breaks usually range from the middle of March through Easter week.

So if you can go in later April, crowds will not be bad. Otherwise, late October is pretty empty.

I'd say crowded yes, packed no. Easter is April 16 next year, so the weeks of the 9th and 16th will be packed.
