April 6, 2008 - 4-night Spring Break Cruise - Anyone else going?

We'll be joining you on the Spring Break cruise too! I bet there will be lots of metro Atlanta families on the ship!!

Here's a little of our background: We have lived in Georgia for 20 years: In Cobb County for 17 years; now in Grayson for 3.

I'm originally from NJ; DH is from South Dakota. Our DD, Tori, will be 14 later this summer. She'll be a freshman @ Grayson H.S. in August. This will be our 3rd Disney cruise. (first time on the Wonder :woohoo:)

We have 2 older children who will not be vacationing with us! Rachel is a Senior at UGA and Eric graduated from Georgia Tech (makes for some interesting family conversations/debates!! :rotfl: )

Looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming months! :yay:

Wow! Quite a few coincdences. DH is from NJ, I am from Minnesota (close enough to SD that I've been to Wall Drug). We've been in Georgia for about 15 years, give or take. We met here. This will be our first Disney Cruise! This is going to be a big Atlanta get together. :thumbsup2

Our first Disney cruise was Spring Break 2003 - quite a few Atlantans on that one too!! Just a warning - DCL cruises are habit-forming!! ;)

Have any of you 4/6 cruisers made hotel plans for the night before? We'll probably stay at the Radisson-Port Canaveral (site of many a pre-cruise DisMeet!!)

Welcome aboard. How old is your DS. Ours just turned 5.

DS will be 6 when we cruise. So currently 5 1/2 and don't you dare forget the half ;)

I'm a bit of an outsider not being from Georgia but at least we will drive through it on our way.

As for the hotel the night before.....do you recommend staying at the port? Is this parking package better than just parking at the port? We were thinking of staying onsite at Disney since we would have most all of Saturday to spend at the parks. But this is all new to us so I would love some suggestions.

We checked it out yesterday. Parking will be free (as opposed to $40 at the port).

This is just weird. I replied to this and my post just disappeared. Anyway, I'll reply again so if this shows up twice, sorry!! ;)

We're going to WDW after the cruise, so we'll drive to the port on Saturday. Since you'll be at WDW on Saturday, you should stay onsite, then drive to the port on Sunday morning. No need to arrive before 10:30am, which is about the time they open the parking lot and terminal.

Parking at the port is very easy. You pay when you arrive (we always use a credit card, but I think they accept cash. :)) The cost was $10/day, but I read recently that it went up to $12/day. After the cruise, you load your luggage in your car and you're ready to hit the road!

There are some nice hotels/resorts on the beach. The Radisson has an awesome pool and a great location, but it is not on the beach.

When you told me your son will be 6, I got so excited for my son that I almost blew the whole suprise. We're gonna tell the kids with a toy ship for the Holidays.

I can't believe I've missed so much!

Welcome to our new people!

Where are you from KYIrish? Or is it Kentucky and I'm just being dense?:rolleyes1

Mrs. G-er... I love the Idea of giving a boat to tell about the cruise. I found the Disney beanie ship on Ebay to give DH last year. It took some serious Fabreeze and dryer sheets to get the musty smell out, but it was fun to have it in advance.

We will probably stay at the Raddison the night before. I've never tried staying on the park then going to the ship.

We are Tech fans at our house. DH and DD go to as many football games as possible. Although, none of us actually went to Tech. (GSU). OH, and my DD will be 13 on the cruise.

Our family just got back from Philly and DC. :yay: We had a great time and are SO going north for vacation more often.

OK, I have to go back to work now. But, I'll check in later.

I am from Kentucky. Louisville to be exact and the Irish is for Notre Dame (sorry GA Tech fans).

I love the creative ideas on surprising the family. We just told DS we would be going for Spring Break. He doesn't even quite understand that though since he will just be starting Kindergarten this year. But I'm sure he will quickly realize how special it is :wizard:

Thanks for the welcome, MommyMinnie!

Is your DD planning to go to the teen club on the Wonder? Tori had so much fun at "The Stack" on our last Magic cruise. She met lots of nice kids and still stays in touch with some of them! :goodvibes

Glad to hear you're Tech fans - they're so outnumbered by Dawg fans!! I support both, but I was a Yellow Jacket fan first! :cheer2:

For any who are interested, I hope we'll be able to set up a pre-cruise DisMeet. If not before April, then maybe at the Radisson on Saturday. Maybe a "pool meet"?!! :yay:

kyirish25: I just wanted to say I love the picture in your siggie! What an adorable family you are (having fun at SciFi!!)

This will be DD's first cruise in the Stack group. She's a little aprehensive but I think she'll be happier if she knows she can talk a little "buzz" with someone.

We are so in! What about Stone Mtn?

When is KY Irish coming through Atlanta next? It looks like there's a Dis trip sometime soon?

Our next Disney trip is planned for Fall Break in early October. We can't wait for MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Festival.

We are actually looking for a good stopping point just outside of Atlanta, any suggestions? In years past we have stopped in Valdosta but we will be getting a late start since we are leaving on a Friday after school.

I think we should just go ahead and plan a disMeet at the Radison the night before.

That sounds great!

From Atlanta, you still have 7 to 8 hours to get to WDW. You'd either want to get to south metro Atlanta or maybe drive further south to the Macon area. I'm familiar with the motels in the Tifton area, but that's probably further than you'd want to drive on Day 1!! Sorry I'm not much help!

Stone Mountain would be fun. We haven't been since we moved to this side of town, about 3 years ago! Coordinating our schedules might be the tricky part, but let's try!
