April 29 - Dallas / Ft. Worth Dis Meet! Whohoo!

Late flakeout. Have to help friends w/ storm damage. Branches clean-up stuff.
Sorry. Hope yal have a lot of fun!

Well I am going to miss everyone who isn't coming!! I'm glad the whole mommystieg crew and dallastxcpa are coming, or else it might just be me and Todd :teeth:. I think everyone else that is not a "no" is a "maybe", but I hope several of you can show up. I also hope some of you people who have never been, and who can't come this time, can eventually make it. We do have a lot of fun together ::yes::.

Okay, people. It looks like I'm the only usual meet planner going to be at this meet. So. . .why don't we use this thread to sort of plan a meet on so I don't have to plan the next one by myself.

I know it's almost impossible to find a date good for everyone, but we have done it before. Today's is kind of a fluke, but with the way this meet has turned out, I want to know what dates in the next couple of months are totally out for those of you who always come to come to the meets (e.g. Kathy, Debbie, Coral, David/Robin, mommystieg, slimplaw, Janette, susie(hello?), nebskys (where are y'all??), )? I'm sorry if I forgot anyone. Anyone else chime in, too, if you are really interested in coming.

Once we see if any dates are out for a whole bunch of us, we'll know not to plan it for those days.

I'll start. I am going back to Disneyland for the first time since the '70s from May 20-27th :cool1:. So since those days are out for me, the meet will NOT be either of those 2 weekends :smooth:.

We had a nice little meet today ::yes::. It was small, but it was great to be able to talk to everyone and not miss out on any of the conversation. Thanks, TLinden16 (Karen), for calling our meet from the simultaneous Boston meet :wave2:. Here are a few pictures from today's TX meet:

So glad y'all had a good time today. Looks like lots of happy faces!

So, dates we (Ohanafamily/RRBB/Ian) can't make a meet in the near future include:

May 13/14 (But that's only 2 weeks away and Mother's Day weekend so I highly doubt we'd plan one then anyway.)

June 11 (It's the last day of the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington)

July 29 (We have a family commitment)

Now, if it's decided to have a meet on June 24th, that's our 5th anniversary. David said he wouldn't mind going to the Murder Mystery Theater with everyone that evening. ;)

No way! I am going to Disneyland for the first time, since I would say the late 60's/early 70's, from May 10-13! Too cool! I am actually in LA on business (kinda, I am on vacation, but will have some fun meetings to attend), so I will only be at Disneyland on May 12th. I am a little nervous . . . I hear there is some cheerleading competition going on that week and I have heard horror stories on their behavior at the parks. Oh well. I guess that's what I get for making fun of them in high school. I am being punished by going to pom pom hell. :rotfl2:

Rumor has it, Krista, that they have added a few new rides and attractions. :scratchin Hmmmm, we will see. ;)

My next weekend out is when I go to WDW, September 10-16. :cheer2:

Looks like you had a good time. I really missed you guys.

Oh, here is just a meeting suggestion: I had someone ask me when we were going to have a meet closer to Dallas. :confused3 Just a thought.

Anyway, wherever we meet, I will do my best to be there! I look forward to seeing you all at the next meet. Whohoo!

:woohoo: Yay for Debbie! But , too. I'll be alone 3 of those days in the parks since Todd will be at a conference, and that would have been perfect if you and I had been there at the same time ::yes::.

I drive to these meets from south Fort Worth, and it's not that far to drive - maybe 20-30 miles. However, it would be a different story if I did not have a car.

As an explanation as to why our meets are usually where they are. . . .We usually meet in the northern central part of the metroplex because for some reason a good percentage of the DISers who regularly attend and who respond to these threads live and/or work in the northeast Tarrant/northwest Dallas county area. So we know where the good places to meet are in that area. Also, meeting in the middle of DFW east/west-wise is an attempt to allow people from both halves of the metroplex to make it without having to drive all the way across town.

If DISers from other parts of the metroplex want to start replying and suggest a good meeting place in their area, and maybe even plan a meet (it's really not hard to do), then I'm sure we could try meeting in another part of the DFW area. Maybe South Arlington around the Parks mall?? It's pretty central. Or Irving along 183?? If there's someplace for a fun DIS meet that is actually in Dallas or another part of the metroplex, that would be great, too. I've been known to drive across town to go to a Target or Eddie Bauer, so I'd do it to make it to a meet, too :teeth:. The three of us who have been the ones to initiate these meets (i.e. Debbie, Kathy, and me) tend to plan them for where the regularly participating DISers are, and in areas where we know the restaurants, etc. It doesn't mean we won't meet in another part of town if people from that part of town were committed to attending.

Oh, man, that would have been a hoot!

And thanks for the explanation. That is basically what I told them. :thumbsup2

The only weekends I am not available are May 6/7-I'll be in WDW, May 13 and the last weekend in July 1/2. I'm wure the group had a great time.

Other than some stuff this coming weekend (May 6-7), the rest of May is good for us. We will be at WDW June 2-15 :cool1: Hope to see everybody soon :sunny:

My "no-way" dates are June 3-13, about the same time Mommystieg and gang are away.

Has anyone done the Duck Boat tours that are based at the Gaylord Texan yet? That could be a fun meet! Here's a link to their website: Duck Riders of Grapevine

Has you ever had a meet at Southlake town square?

We have not met there, but it is a terrific place. And isn't there a brand new Cheesecake Factory there?? We could meet there for lunch when it first opens and avoid the crowd. Yummy ::yes::. Anyone else up for that??

And I have not done the boats, Kathy. In fact I haven't been to the Gaylord since the last time we had a meet there. We have had some really nice meets at the Gaylord. Perhaps we do need to do another one - either the boats or another Murder Mystery Theater. Sounds like David is up for that :teeth:.

Yes, The Cheesecake factory has opened, and I can't wait to try it.
I have never been to the Texan, We have only been in the metroplex 5 weeks..
I can meet for lunch almost anytime,I don't work....
Deb

Cheesecake Factory in southlake is very tasty, been there twice already. The new shops look good if you're into that shopping thing ;)

How does June 17th at 11 a.m. at the Cheesecake Factory sound? If it's good with everyone, then it might become the official date/time/place, depending on what y'all post.

I want most of us to be able to attend, so does that NOT work for anyone?

Please post either way - yea or nay. If the majority can come, then we'll shoot for then :).

Ian and I are free that day, but Saturdays - ALL Saturdays - before 2 p.m. are bad for David. He works until 1:00 or so when his office closes on Saturdays.

:confused3Are you really sure about meeting at Cheesecake Factory? I've never known it to be anything but crazy busy, especially on weekends. Well I have been to one a time or two in the middle of the week around 2:30/3:00 where it wasn't packed to the gills, but never on a weekend.

Nope, not sure at all. I've only ever been to a Cheesecake Factory once, so I don't know much about them. But I was shooting for 11 a.m. since it will first be opening. Maybe it's not a great idea for a meet. Any other ideas? This is why I really need y'all's input. I don't have my heart set on anything in particular.

But also why it's a bad choice is because I would like for David to be able to come since he hasn't been able to lately, so maybe a 2 or 3 or 4 o'clock meet on Saturday at a less busy place, or a Sunday 11 a.m. lunch (unless people have church) would be good. I figure there might be some Sunday morning church goers among us, but maybe not. DH and I only have church Sunday evenings and are free on Sundays until around 3.

I wish I had ideas for places to meet, especially central to everybody. But David and I are such homebodies. We hardly go out anywhere and when we do it's usually to the same few places near our house.

I know David would apperciate something later on a Saturday or even on a Sunday if it doesn't interfere with people going to church. But if the majority prefer something earlier on a Saturday, I know he will understand. (And we could always call and bug him at work.
