Thanks for the good thoughts for my Bob. The EKG in the dr's office had indicated he may have had a heart attack so they admitted him and ran tests. Good news is no attack but they aren't sure what is causing his stomach and back pain so more tests as an out patient.

I called another shirt company just to get a third quote and talk with them about the shirts. Their price and overall offer is the same. They are a larger company, which can be good or bad. Right now I am proceeding with the first company but keeping the second as a backup.

Glad there was no MI..:)

Val our thoughts are with you and Bob. Hope they find the answers soon for Bob.

Jon

Sorry I didn't get back to you Monday as promised but Bob's cardiologist admitted him to the hospital to run tests so I wasn't home to make those calls. I am going to contact the original company's artist to see about getting him the files he needs to get us a mockup. The company Corinna found do some great designs but use a different process that would only work on a very different design. They use a stamp process which means fewer colors and a simpler design, more like a logo. Does anyone want to work on that?

Only happy thoughts for Bob.

Thanks, Angie. We are just stupid happy about it! :cloud9:

Cannot wait!

Thanks for the offer. Angie has accepted the responsibility (challenge). I have faith that they can get it done but I will keep you in mind for plan "B"

Jon

Mission accomplished!!! :thumbsup2 Now just have to get the photos downloaded and have Dennis email to you! :cool2::tiptoe::stitch:

I was going to wait to mention anything about the shirts until I had something positive to post but as there have been questions I felt I should bring you all up to date now.

When I had originally spoke with the company about making us shirts, I explained a little bit about who we were. I gave them links to the DISboards web site and our thread. I wanted them to see who we were and get your input. They were incurring the cost of having an artist work on design with no promise, other then my assurance we were serious about wanting the shirts.

In response to concern over using Disney characters in our design I explained: (quote from an e-mail)

"Anecdotal information seems to indicate that if you ask Disney or pirate their products for gain, or the use of the designs are brought to their attention, they do pursue the issue. However, our past experience has been that Disney seems to turn a blind eye to the use of their characters and designs by groups on the ship. There are a number of people who make decorations for use on the doors on the ship. They use the Disney characters on their products and have been selling them on EBay for a number of years. Every cruise literally hundreds of the doors on the ship are plastered with magnets and pictures that are either hand made or the cruisers had had made, using the Disney figures. Groups have tee shirts made with the name of the cruise and Disney characters. The DISboards postings are covered with homemade graphics using the Disney forms."

Based on this exchange we all proceeded. I sent some graphics and they sent back mockups of the pink shirts and black and purple shirts with Lilo & Stich and cruise text. I then sent a number of the concept designs I had posted here - the top three we had voted on, but with updates based on feedback, all with Disney characters. They gave me positive feedback concerning the concept designs and we were working on the technical issues of using them. They had their artist working on mocking up three new designs for us to look at.

Early last Wednesday morning I got a call from Becky. This was the morning after the heated but resolved exchange on our site. She explained they felt they could not use the Disney characters in a shirt design. She expressed concern that if someone bought the shirts, not just for their personal use, but sold them to the public outside our group, Disney might take action. (perhaps in jest, this had been mentioned on our site). She also mentioned if someone with a 'vigilante complex' or someone who had an issue with our group contacted Disney about the shirts we could be in trouble. There is no way I could assure her this would never happen.

So, the designs are out. I promised to try to come up with something that pleases everyone - don't know if that is possible, but I have been trying to come up with something. I have gotten written approval from Jordak and Milliepie that I can use their design concepts, without Disney characters, for shirts we would have made "for our personal use". I have sent these authorizations to Becky. So since last week I've been trying to develop something. My plan is to run everything by Becky before posting the one I hope might meet approval. If/when I get the ok, I'll see what you all think.

Sorry my news isn't any better. Oh, before I forget, before all this hit the fan, I had been told the material is 56 inches wide.

Val

Bob and I have been thinking about alternatives too. A lot of you, and Bob, have Hawaiian style shirts, with tropical prints which include Disney characters, made and sold by Disney. I haven't found any tropical Disney material nor these type of shirts sold in volume (you can find individual items on Ebay). If we could find the material or the shirts for sale, we could all wear the same shirt.

Bob also suggested maybe we just get shirts made with material similar to the dress Lilo wears, with text on it unique to our cruise. This would be simple to do and we would all have the same cruise shirt.

The design I am working on would be unique to our group and cruise but would not have the Disney characters exactly. I am working on a concept that has multicolored flower leis shaped sorta like Mickey balloons in different sizes, with images in the center of the balloon. The images include a map of Hawaii, a castle, a cruise ship with two stacks, etc. Along with the balloons would be six surfboards each with it's own color and image on the board; a red bow, a pink bow, a blue sailor hat, a green floppy hat, a pair of red shorts with yellow buttons and a green dog collar and bone. I have text indicating our cruise dates, ports, etc. in the images.

A six inch border would be at the bottom of the shirt. It is multi-color hibiscus, like the lei balloons, with cruise text in a strip between the flower borders. I like the idea of a border at the bottom of the shirts, because it breaks up the busy design on the shirt and it makes the shirt design more vertical rather then horizontal.

I'll keep working on it and see what Becky and her artist says. Unless the group is no longer interested in having me continue on this.

Val

Val, thanks so much and please, please carry on. We are in for whatever shirt you come up with!

We are just back this evening from our Alaska cruise. Had a good time. Still have several pages to catch up on.

Val and Bob, our prayers are with you. We hope they get the issue resolved quickly and the Bob will then remain in good health!

Val, I hope all will be good with Bob. Sounds like he ready is on the right path. All my best. Bob first, getting shirts a very distant second.

Hello everyone,

I was one of the unlucky that did not learn soon enough about this sailing of the wonder to hawaii. It sounds like a heavenly cruise.
I just popped by to wish everyone happy cruising.
I wish I had been able to book! Maybe another year. ) :)
smiles.
susan

Keep checking as rooms do pop up from time to time. We have people joining us every few days. Also we are due to pay in full over the New Year period so there will be some rooms around then as people decide they can't make it.

Thanks. I'm worried if I don't take it, the fuel prices will go up, along w/the fares. :confused3

Exactly ! I would book it. Good luck.

Ah yes, Chicken Schnitzel sounds very Californian... :lmao:

Actually, much of this is - the roasted veggies with quinoa, Ahi tuna, lots is popular here. And not a trace of avocado that I could see! Thanks for sharing!!!

.

:) I don't even remember what I had that night. I know it wasn't my favorite menu.

Hope he feels better soon and they find the cause.

From memory, there was not an avocado or an a alfalfa sprout in sight.

This is very similar, but it had a bit of a make over for the Panama Canal Cruise. I ended up having Potato Croquettes filled with Basil and Italian Cheese, White Wine Sauce, Candied Walnut, Tomato and Cillantro Soup with Chipotle Cream and Somona Chicken Breast, Wild Rice, Roasted Sweet Carots and Asparagus. Our server had also brought out a portion of Portobello Mushroom Ravioli with a Brown Butter, Sage and Truffle Oil Sauce for us to share.

Corinna

This menu was from the Panama Canal Cruise. It was in 08 though. :rotfl2:They might have some of the things on here. Our head waiter surprised us on our last night and gave us ALL the special menus & dessert menus in a nice folder.
All of them look brand new and not even used. We thought it was very nice and thoughtful for him to do this.:goodvibes

Welcome back ! What was your favorite thing that you did ?

Welcome back ! What was your favorite thing that you did ?

The sea days were my favorite. We did White Pass Railway ride and a tour of Juneau that went to a temperate garden and then to Mendenhall Glacier. But, in order to actually walk on the glacier you had to do a plane or helicopter excursion which was way, way too much $$ for us with 3. In Ketchikan we just got a local tour guide to take us to the totem pole place and to an area where there were lots of bald eagles and salmon jumping. It was nice, but not my favorite cruise we have taken. But..in fairness, we live in Montana and we did not see much that we don't see here often if not daily except the whales. We saw a few whales from the ship. Pretty cool. But, DCL is always a good place to be!! :goodvibes I was disappointed that there was no napkin placed in my lap at dinner last night!! :sad2: We must be home.

Tut, Dennis really is slipping in his duties there Angie!

Again, thank you so much for all your prayers and good wishes.

I am still working with the artist at the shirt company. I think it is going pretty well.

I can't find the postings regarding the hotel deals for prior to our trip. I think they may have been made by MickeyMom923?? Anyway, I was wondering if there is an offer out there for the Double Tree in San Pedro? They are taking reservations up to one year out and will guarantee the rate. The no penalty cancellation time is 72 hours so if they do come up with a better deal you can cancel and rebook. What I got for another cruise was a park and cruise package.

King room with marina view
Breakfast
2 drink tickets
shuttle to and from the port
parking for the duration of the cruise

The cost is $214

This seemed like a good deal but maybe there is something out there that is better?

If you can't find anything on the DISBoards regarding the hotels, it is easy to find the posts on the FB page. I beleive there was something for the Double Tree.

Does anyone know if the OP/thread starter is still on the cruise as it would be nice for the first page to be updated with things like the hotels etc?

Yes Bev got the rates for DT. She is leaving for a cruise on the 12th. Her rate was 139.00 but NOT for marina view ( Costs more ) and doesn't include breakfast.

I still think Shelly aka Bip is still going. I see her more on FB. Will send her a message.:)

That's actually very good because you have the added parking, drinks & breakfast. Parking at the port in San Pedro was $12 per day, last time I parked there - sure it's much more now!!

I believe the group rate did not included parking and was a run of the house room, but not sure now either. But that sounds good to me. If we weren't staying at the VGC we would be doing that too.
