April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

As a retired elementary school teacher, I often had children taking a vacation during school. It was not encouraged but when I met with the parents I was willing to give them an idea of what material we would be covering during the time their children would be out of school. Beign a parent myself I realized it was a lot cheaper to take a family on vacation when it was not a school holiday. It was not required of me, but I always made up some type of study and work packets for the children to take with them. I also agree with the person who said the child would get a lot more of being at Pearl Harbor than reading about it in a book. Hope it all works out for you that have children. If I can help in any way while we are on the ship let me know.

Count me in for a shirt ( very possibly two). All the designs are great; but I am partial to Lilo & Stitch - just MHO. Thanks for doing this! :thumbsup2

Here is the response I received back from Becky. I'll work on getting JPEG designs to her this morning. As soon as I get her sample I'll but it through the wash a couple of times and let you know how it looks.

"Hi Valerie:
Great hearing back from you. I sent your shirt sample out yesterday so I am hopeful you will have it by the weekend.

Hawaiian shirts are a much better option than the traditional shirt….and I am sure everyone will be pleased with them. Our shirts are unisex and we can cut kids' sizes as well….prices will be the same….

I will have my artist take a look at the files and come up with a few designs with your logo weaved into the shirt….do you have those files in a .jpg format by any chance?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks,
Becky"

I'm afraid of meeting my sons teachers for this year. He will just be in JK, but we will be at wdw for 12 days in October/November and then the cruise in April/May. I'm guessing I'm not going to be a popular mom!!!:rolleyes1

We are mot going anywhere before cruise, but usually my son is sick a lot during winter time with stuff you need to stay home and with 24hrs no temp (w/o meds) policy before returning to school, you can collect absent days really quick.

I'm really looking forward to see how they can incorporate our design in one of their shirt....I have feeling they will look fantastic.

You may not win the popular with the teachers Mom award, but I am sure you will win the cool Mom award!..:worship: We are going to WDW the last week of October and this cruise as well, but my boys are only going to be 2 and almost 5, so I really don't have to worry about school YET.
Good luck with the teachers!

I love the idea of the shirt. We would either get one or two adult sizes.

Well, if the working relationship I have experienced continues like it has, I am very optimistic about the company I have found to possibly do the shirts for us. I spoke with the owners dad this morning, he answered the phone, and it seems it is a family operation of really nice people. Becky immediately answered my e-mail in which I sent her the requested jpeg files. She responded with the following:

"Got it and looks great, will forward to my artist and get some stuff back to you in the next day or so.

Thanks again and enjoy your weekend as well,

Becky"

Will keep you posted.

are they on one of the islands we are going to? Would they allow us to come tour their place?

Will they make doll/Teddy bear size shirts?

I wasn't sure if I should respond and risk bursting the bubble.... They are in Illinois.

I can ask if they are in Teddy bear size or if perhaps they will sell us fabric by the yard. But let's wait and see what they come up with. I am trying not to be toooooooooo excited until I see what they offer us in the way of design. Before calling them I did look at their website to see samples of what they have done for others and they looked pretty good.

Here is what I looked at:

this is the art work, you can't read the verbage on their logo nor really see the company logo but it gives you an idea.

The picture below is the group photo of the people wearing the made shirt. I'll try to take better pictures, with more detail in close up, when I get the sample they are sending.

Looks good. I think this is an awesome idea you have come up with! If there is anything I can do to help you once decisions are made let me know. I am in Seattle area, but none of us are really from the same place LOL

I love the idea of the shirt.

I am getting a little extra DIS time. It is one of the benefits of business travel. I am spending the night in Halifax Nova Scotia. Quite a lovely little town. Although, after 6 hours of lecturing I am a little beat for a night on the town. I also love that it's only 1.5 hours to Boston.

Thanks - any recommendations you might have would be very appreciated.

The shirt came this afternoon - boy are they quick about responding. I'll wash it and let you know how it looks - will post pictures too. Here is the message I sent to her today:

"Becky

The shirt arrived this afternoon, thanks. Bob likes the colors very much (told you he liked Hawaiian shirts - the louder the better). The quality is great, seems true to size and plenty long in the sleeves and length. Some shirts we have bought for bargain prices or true vintage are small.

A couple questions, you had mentioned the shirts were cotton poly blend and the one you sent was 100% poly. What would the ones we get be? If we had a choice, the blend would be better. Also, is having a pocket or not an option? I see some of your shirts on your web have it and some don't. Lastly, I have been asked if sleeveless shift dresses are available, and shirts that would fit a teddy bear. If not, can we order the fabric by the yard and have them made ourselves?

Appreciate all your help. Hope you have a good weekend too."

Valerie

I am completely enamored of this company actually MAKING fabric to make these shirts. If they made a satin-like fabric can you IMAGINE the things I could do?!?!?! I would design so MANY fabrics to make ties and vests out of!! I'd buy it by the yard OR I'd even just let them make them into shirts and then i'd cut up the shirts to make my projects...I'm sure one hawaiian shirt has plenty of fabric to make a tuxedo vest and bowtie!! :thumbsup2 There are so many Disney characters that are NOT on satin/silk fabric that we want-----Tiana always gives us a hard time that she is the only princess that isn't on our Princess apparel but I told her on the Med cruise that the fabric store only prints her on polar fleece fabric (:scared1:) and that would make awful vests!! (she laughed :lmao:)....and we haven't met Rapunzel on a ship (yet), but we'd love to get her on a set of formal wear, as well. Oh the wheels are just spinning in my head with what I could do if I found a company that would let me design my OWN satiny fabrics!!! (AND would let me use licensed Disney characters on them, as well!)

As for a design......valbob....I don't know if they have a policy or htought about how many images they will put on a single shirt, but I noticed that 3 or 4 of the images you sent them are variations on a theme----they are basically the same design only a different background color with a different character-----I think a hawaiian shirt that combines all of them would look amazing (so like the pink Minnie, Orange Goofy and them maybe we could Mickey on a background like lime green (for the DIS) or yellow or light blue)----the mix of characters and colors scattered all over would have a very Disney and very tropical feel to it, I think!! :thumbsup2

Love all the shirt ideas. Glad to hear they run true to size. Would love any color design you choose.

I just love the Hawaiian shirt idea, we would absolutley order them. Every Friday during the summer my DH's office has "Hawaiian shirt day", how great to be able to wear one from this awesome cruise!

question? How many formal nights do you think we'll have? We did an 11 night Med cruise last year I think there was 2. What do you think...3?
