question for the dcl experts:

is the buffet open during dinner time? i expect we wont want to do the full dinner experience every night for 15 nights....thanks for any advice:goodvibes

thanks for the pics from san fran the ship looked beautiful going under the bridge:cloud9:

As others have said, its not a buffet in the evening (or it wasn't on the WBTA last year). We went on the second formal night.

As much at we loved our tablemates (waves to Angie :lovestruc ) we hate dressing up and don't have any clothing that would be considered anything like formal.

As it turned out, it was one of the best meals we had all cruise. We met up with another Dis'er and her daughter and had a really lovely meal. Thats also something to consider - you can dine with others that aren't your usual tablemates.

We will most likely skip all formal nights on the Hawaii sailing - its just too much hassle to dress up.

I don't recall if there is someone arranging a navigator for this cruise but it would be cool to have a "non-formal" dinner for anyone interested for this cruise.

Here's a photo of an ABC store - this one is in Aloha Moana (shopping) Center in Honolulu, not far from where we will be docked. You'll notice they are not large stores; but they have cold drinks, snacks, souvenirs (coffee, macadamia nuts, tee shirts, wooden trinkets, jewelry ...); this one has a fair amount of space dedicated to wine.

Ala Moana Center is open on Sundays from 10am - 7pm.

per their site:

"Ala Moana Center is located at 1450 Ala Moana Boulevard, just minutes from Waikiki. We offer ample free parking on four levels.

Ala Moana Center is a premier international and local shopping destination with over 290 shops and restaurants. From beachwear to high fashion, casual dining to fine dining, you'll find everything at Ala Moana Center, all in a beautiful open-air setting filled with lush tropical landscaping and koi ponds. Ala Moana Center is a smoke-free shopping center."

Attention Dole Whip fans:

Pineapple & Coconut Hut in the Makai Market Food Court (opens at 9am) of Ala Moana Center serves Dole Whip. From yelp! webpage, this is a picture of a small cone. I see there's a Cash Only sign behind it - come prepared.

Ala Moana Center is also home to The Disney Store, 2nd level near Sears:

Interesting Paula, do they still serve the lobster tail ? Since my DH isn't coming :sad1:I might just consider this.

Thanks for sharing !

LindaBabe - Keeping your BIL in our thought :flower3:

AuntLynne -Thanks for the shopping info, always handy for a shopaholic like me. ;)

First things that popped into my head:
Orlando Bloom - they'll think his parents were POC fans
Elliot - the kid in the ET movie
:goodvibes

Well, we're Disney fans and we concieved this baby just after arriving home from 2 weeks at WDW (Orlando). We thought it was quite fitting. :)

That is also the first thing I thought of when I saw the names. Does Elliot tell my age ? I loved that movie.:)
My top 3 picks are.....
1. Ethan
2. Elliot
3. Orlando
When is your due date ? What a exciting time for your family. :goodvibes

I also love Ethan, but have a nephew and one of my best friends son are both Ethan's. There are also 6 Ethans I know in my daughters grade at school
My due date is 11th August, 14 weeks to go and counting.....:goodvibes

I love Elliot and would add Walt to the list. :)

Should've known I would get some Disney names her of all places...Walt, Roy aswell? What about Mickey? :rotfl:

Love the name Elliot, it also happens to be my nephews name :goodvibes

Lot's of votes for Elliot!
We were moving towards Orlando as we tend to shorten names around here, so we like Orly or Oli, but Elliot doesn't shorten well? :confused3

THANK YOU! I have saved the link for this. While DH is touring the rest of the Pearl Harbor sites, I will go directly from the Arizona to the shopping center:hippie:

Thank you. How about "James" (Jim Dear, from Lady & the Tramp) , "Bernard" (from the Rescuers), Thomas (O'malley from the Aristocats), "Donald" as in Duck, or Jack (Sparrow, although I suppose his real name was John)

Happy Mothers Day to all the beautiful Mumma Bears xx

And to YOU!

Happy day, all!

I was suppose to be a Donna but too many Donna's in the family already.:rotfl2: How about Oliver ? My vote to Orlando moved up since reading your post about it.:goodvibes

Thanks but I didn't do anything. Saw picture years ago and just copied and put in my photobucket. Feel free to copy it and wouldn't it be great for a magnet since we will be on cruise next year to celebrate Mother's Day.;)

I like Orlando for 2 reasons! And you are right, it shortens much better than Elliott!!! He won't like being an Ellie, and that is the best shortening!!!

I second the ABC stores! When we did the last Hawaiin cruise we shopped thier frequently. That is where the crew shops too. Also in Oahu thier is a Sams/WM close by too. We took a taxi to the beach and back for $10 each way. I am hoping when we go to Maui that we can do Molokini. We did not do it last time and wish that I had.

I-phone said it could not post so I tried again but turns out it had posted both previous times.
Sorry

E
El
Eli (not Ellie like a girl's name but Eli the boy's name)

:)

Our younger son,Theodore, went by Teddy when he was little, chose his own nickname of Wicket (the little Ewok who saves the day in Star Wars) and now is Ted. We liked his creativity on choosing his own gradeschool nickname.

If I may throw in my two cents here. Not having formal attire is no reason to skip the awesome menus usaly served those nights. I say look at the menu, if you like it show for dinner. No one says you have to dress up. Sorry am just such a huge fan of the dining rooms so I never miss. Personally if you were at my table and showed up casual on formal night I would not care at all.

I have an actual Eli... It it not short for anything, that is his given name.. Works great!.. No need to shorten!.. I also have a Lucas, but we do call him Luke..

Would you believe I googled Disney boys names and checked them all out, and must admit very briefly considered Mickey. Hubby thinks 'Mr Incredible' would be cool :confused3 :rotfl2:

I was suppose to be a Donna but too many Donna's in the family already.:rotfl2: How about Oliver ? My vote to Orlando moved up since reading your post about it.:goodvibes

I adore Oliver, just too many of them around here! :)

My thought exactly. I really like having a story behind the name too. :goodvibes

I am not sure, but I'm pretty sure I went into an ABC store when I was in Las Vegas in February. It had a good selection of chocolate covered macadamia's, sarong's and tourist stuff along with things like band-aids, toiletries, drinks, basic medical stuff, etc.... It was a handy little shop. ;)

My love of the name Walt comes from my meeting of the cutest, sweetest little DIS boy in 2006. Of course, that is it Disney is a plus also. :thumbsup2

Oh, Isn't is funny how we associate names with people we know. We really like the name Sonny, but we have one that works for us that is not the finest citizen.

I really like Eli, hadn't thought of that, Hmmmm, such a big decision!
I love my girls names (Lucinda and Arabella), boys names are more difficult, imo.
I love the story of your son, and that is why we like longer more grown up names that can be shortened to cute names when they are children, and then they can use their full name later in a professional or more adult way.
And Wicket, that is just priceless

Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions...... :goodvibes

The Walmart/Sam's Club building is just a block mauka (toward the mountains) of Ala Moana Center, up Keeamouku Street. It's a double-deck building with the Sam's on top. Souvenirs in Walmart.

(BTW, I love Hawaii and love seeing pictures, talking about it ....)
