question for the dcl experts:

is the buffet open during dinner time? i expect we wont want to do the full dinner experience every night for 15 nights....thanks for any advice:goodvibes

thanks for the pics from san fran the ship looked beautiful going under the bridge:cloud9:

Sorry, no buffet in the evenings which I think is a shame. Beach blanket is open for sit down dinner in a more casual way. i.e. you can go in your shorts etc. You don't need reservations but it isn't open for too long. The menu is more or less the same as you get in the restaurants for that night, plus a very nice salad bar. We quite like to go a couple of times. The servers seem to be trainees but are quite attentive.

I think the dining options other than the set rotations are very poor. Junk food on deck and a very lacking in room menu. Very disappointing.

Personally, I would never miss a dinner in the main dining rooms. There will be 15 different menus. Also the servers become a little like your best friends on the ship. When they get to know you dinners become really fun. Also when you see your servers working at the buffet for breakfast or lunch, they pay you extra attention. If you go to one of the open dinning rooms for breakfast or lunch same thing will happen. I remember once I went to Parrot Cay for a buffet lunch. Our servers were working that lunch. They insisted we sit with them. So yes you can go to Beach Blanket for dinner, bur all I can say is, you won't find us there.

Wow that is amazing!

I don't know how often it happens but I think it would be cool to see.

It definitely counts! :thumbsup2

Wow!! :scared1:

.:cheer2:

On the news it said that it never hit land or caused any damage. That's the only kind I like.;)

If you want a shirt--order a man's shirt. Sometimes the Disney catalog
has women's dresses in the same fabric but they run small in sizing I think.
Jan :earsgirl:

Yes Disney sizing runs small ! Great idea on the mans shirt though.

I THOUGHT about mowing the lawns yesterday. It has been 10-15 degrees colder than normal here all spring so nothing is planted yet. We did hit 67 on Sunday though and Trugreen is coming tomorrow to weed/feed the lawn for the first time. Will need to mow by next weekend for sure. :rolleyes1 It is not high yet, but definanately looking ragged. :sad2:

I have found they run small too.

Yup I mowed because the rain is coming tonight. I do believe our weather has been a little warmer then you.:rolleyes1 We have been mowing for a month now. It is my least favorite thing to do !

I have never gone to beach blanket for dinner. I enjoy going to dinner in the dining room. I even stop by during the day to see the menu and know what I am going to order before even going into the dining room. :rolleyes1 It is good to know that they offer the same thing at beach blanket. I never knew that. I suppose if I was running late from being on the Island it's nice to know there is another option.

Disney use to sell Hawaii dresses but when I checked I didn't see any dresses at all.:confused3 It's nice that Lou is getting excited for cruise.:)
My b-day was o.k but I have a feeling that next year will just be awesome !! I " Wonder " why ? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

on the last cruise I was on, there were two women who had matching dresses and shirts made of such really cute Disney Hawaiian fabric. I asked one of them where they got them and they said they made them from fabric they ordered, but I have forgotten what company they ordered the fabric from.

Does anyone know where I can order Mickey and Minnie fabric?

Connie

Tina,
Your FE's are great. Your are so creative and talented. I wouldn't even know how to start one. I know your roomie Lindsay loves hers.

Where's mine? :rotfl2: Only joking.

Bev

I finished our FE and would like to share. :) I am sharing a room with Lindsay but we will have seperate FE groups so I had to get creative. My DH thinks the rod might be to wide, so I have a plan B if it is. The best part is after cruise we will each have our FE to take home and use for future cruises.:thumbsup2

Hi Bev, Glad your joking.:rolleyes1 I am glad that project is done.:)

I grew up in rural Rensselaer County and went to college in Troy. It's a small world.

Tom went to RPI. I was in the class of 71 at RSC but when he got his first job on Long Island I transferred to Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. When we moved back to Rensselaer
County we lived in Petersburg and then East Greenbush.

Connie--check some of the standard fabric and craft stores. I know I have seen Disney fabrics there. You may find something you like and then you are not stuck with yards of something that looks different from the picture on the Internet.

Say HI to Patrick and Chuck for me.

What if you are out at sea though? Though, as impressive and pretty as they look, they might not have too much power.

We also love eating in the dining rooms, especially if we have some good tablemates. But, just occasionally it is a nice change, and we can eat earlier too, also a change from late dining. Good option if you are not feeling 100% or not feeling like chatting all evening too, or fancy an early night.

We don't like the Pirate Night menu, so decided to go up there instead.......to find it was the same menu!!!!!:lmao: Actually there was an odd other item, and I love the salad bar, so we did fine. If it is a night when the 3 restaurants are serving different things, i.e. when they serve the menu particular to that restaurant(Animator's Palette show dinner etc) , then Beach blanket serve a selection from the 3 restaurants.

The place has subdued lighting and I set up really nice, nothing like a buffet. I still think there should be a buffet though.

Hawaiian waterspouts are usually mild, and do not pack the devastating winds of midwestern tornadoes. However, the few severe waterspout or tornado incidents studied in Hawaii have indicated destructive wind speeds over 100 mph. The path of destruction is usually narrow, 50 to 300 feet wide, and less than a mile long, however, its speed of travel is faster than a boat.

Waterspouts occur mainly in the winter months, with the probability of one or two in November, December, January, or April. About 30-40 waterspouts are sighted annually in Hawaiian waters, although this is probably a small fraction of the true number of occurrences. Every waterspout has to be treated as though it will be a severe one, even though most waterspouts in Hawaii spin away harmlessly over the open water without causing damage.

So it looks like it is " rare ' not like the florida Keys where it is more common to see them.

I have main dining and agree it's nice to have options.

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

Absolutely deluging here in upstate New York today. At 47 degrees, I think i'll be staying IN. Brr.

Disney themed fabric can often be found at Joann and even Walmart (those that have sewing departments), believe it or not. Also, google Disney fabric and you get a ton of links, including this one which also has UK, Australia and Canada service (via ebay). http://www.disneyfabrics.com/

Happy Day, all!

Thanks for the infor on the water spouts. We are driving back to CT from FL and we are now in Virginia and they had a picture of it on the TV here.

It is pouring right now. We hate to travel in the rain because we are towing a camper and the rain makes it harder. Hope it stops soon or we will not make it home today.

We found the buffet convenient when we are on a whole day tour and come back to the ship late. We are usually tired and not up for a formal meal so we will go there and maybe go to the early show.

I am wondering if DCL will actually have Beach blanket open as a buffet on the 4 days we are in Hawaii because I believe on the Med cruises they had a buffet running last year as lots of folk were out on long excursions every day and the Med cruises are port intensive. I guess we will see.

I miss Joann.:sad1: They don't have that here. I couldn't find any fabric and that's why I ordered it on line. We have a cold front coming through and your daytime temp. will be our night time temp. tonight.

Did you wave as you drove by ? I understand about the rain. I didn't feel that way till I moved here. Makes the roads really slippery.:scared1: Safe travels. :wizard:

If you have a GTY room at what point should we expect a room assignment? I know sometimes they wait 'til last minute but what exactly is "last minute". Would it be when $ is due in full or the day of sailing?

We had GTY rooms on our Med Cruise in 2007 and they were assigned about 30 days prior to sail date. I think that is about average..

What are the odds that a concierge room will open between now and sail time? One was open a few weeks ago and I really wanted to change my 5B to the concierge room. My TA was out of town so I told myself that if it is still there when she got back (a few days from that point) then it was meant to be. How foolish was I!! Of course it was gone the morning she got back to me. Now I am kicking myself. I know people would lost their deposit if they cancel so are my chances slim and none??
