I don't want to rent a car. Is there a place close by for a small hike to see waterfalls? I found a place called Akaka on line that looks beautiful ! Helicopter I could do for volcano.

Nice to see you on this cruise.:) Are you still going on June 2012 cruise ? I changed that one to the Thanksgiving one. Someone else posted from Myrtle beach here. I could send a PM for the mini-meet.:)

Mini meets sounds great! I'm sure they have tours for walking tours. I am hoping to be able to afford both.

I would know if I even knew where that was.:rotfl2:

It's the volcano that is erupting and is a beautiful site at night being able to see the lave flowing down and into the sea.

What is an ABC store?
Where is the ABC store?
I think you have just answered my perenial dilemma of what do I bring back a souvenirs!!

:yay: Lynne :thumbsup2

Jan :earsgirl:

The ABC Stores are a chain of convenience store found in Hawaii which sell some groceries, tourist stuff and souvenirs.

We bring a couple of cases of chocolate-covered Macadamia nuts back every time we go to Hawaii. They are wonderful and not expensive!

In the olden days when I used to fly first class to Hawaii, the used to give you all the Macadamia nuts you could eat while you sipped you drinks with the Menehune straws.

Where is a good place to stay close to the port? We will be flying in the night before to avoid any flight delay issues, traffic issues, etc. Something decent, but not crazy $$$$$!..

We stayed at the Doubletree in 08. They provided a shuttle to the port. You could see the ship from the hotel. It was nice and we got a group rate. I can't remember exactly how much but I think around $160 and we stayed only the one night.

I still have June 11th written down. :)

Wow on volcano !! Do you know which Island we would be leaving to see at night ?

.....I know one person who doesnt want to participate who could be the liason and know what each group is planning so we get no duplicates and everyone is surprised........
:woohoo: Me, I can do that too!! :goodvibes

Just wanted chime in. To my fellow PC cruisers this year who wanted pins you will aprecate this, and to all I encourage you to do the same. I sent a email to DCL asking if they do pins made just for this cruise to use the RSP process so we don't have to spend hours infront of the store waiting.

:thumbsup2 Sounds like a great plan. What address did you use to write to them? :scratchin:

Just remember you said ask away.:rotfl2:I have never been to Hawaii and don't even no where to begin. I have been searching the :surfweb: and it all seems confusing and forget about pronouncing the names.

I am interested in the best, quickest way to see a volcano.
Some waterfalls & maybe a zipline trip ?
Some of the things you mentioned are already on my list to see so you can leave Oahu off the above list.

1. Active volcano is Kilauea and is on the Big Island of Hawaii. DCL may have some tours there as you will be landing in Hilo which is on the other side of the Island. Personally, I would drive there myself and see it instead of taking a tour.

2. Best waterfall are to be seen I think on Maui are along the Hana Road which is an all day trip. The road is narrow and winding so if you are nervous about driving, you might want to take a tour.

3. Because I am suggesting you do the Hana Road in Maui, I would suggest you do a zipline in Kuai which is more of a garden island. My DD Samantha and our family used this company, Kauai Back Country Adventures.

Rent a car for the volcano and helicopter for the waterfalls, except for the big island then a helicopter is needed for viewing the volcano.

Though a helicopter is nice, you can see them by going to the park. Do remember if you have asthma or any other respiratory problems, seeing the volcanoes in person is not advised.

Here is a helicopter tour we took to see the volcanoes. They are not inexpensive trips. Volcano by Helicopter

I don't like the nuts unless they are covered in chocolate. :lmao:

They had both kinds. I like them covered in various things like wasabi and terriyaki. I loved the tour on the Big Island at Mauna Loa which these days is owned by the Hershey Corporation.

Don't laugh.......Big Island is Honolulu right ? is there enough time to see Pearl Harbor and Arizona and Volcano ? Nope I won't be driving. Other people wouldn't want me to drive either. Way to nervous.

If Maui is an all day trip is it worth it ?

Will check out the tour info. you provided. I have never zipped before and am looking for something " mild ". Something I always wanted to at least try but chicken out.

Thanks for all the info.....sure will have alot of questions over the next year. All the times I have seen you posting on the boards our paths have never crossed. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.:goodvibes Besides my wedding .........this might just be the best cruise yet ! Repo is a close 2nd.

Looking forward to it!!!

:goodvibes I will go back through posts and send her a PM with info. Enjoy your Alaska cruise ! Won't be long now.

Too close to the MV of the Fantasy for us!!

Wow I would say so ! At least I have the 6 months in between to lose the weight I gain on this 15 day so I can gain it again.:rotfl2:
