April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

My main priority is going to the Arizonia.

We have 'done' the Arizonia three different ways. Each has it's own beauty. We've taken a boat up the coast to Pearl from near where the ship will be docked. That allowed you to see the coast line and into the harbor, past other boats and hear a narrative of where each ship was and how it was sunk. We've gone on the tour starting at the base, out to the Arizonia and then toured the Missouri, which is right there too. There is also a submarine (can't remember which one) you can tour. The store is also fun. The other way we toured is by helocopter. It can give you a very different perspective flying up the coast, into the bay and down the harbor. You can see the Arizonia in the water. All very interesting and moving.

Ours, too, Alan. My husband will want to do the rest of the military sights as well - Missouri, sub and so forth. Even if I can't go with him through the rest of the sights (due to disability), I will go to the Arizona. I'm sure they'll offer a tour, but our plan is to get off the ship as soon as the 'all ashore' is sounded and take a cab.

The submarine is the Bowfin I mentioned earlier.

It's not only a luau, but just more time to enjoy the islands, especially the big island that takes longer to explore and enjoy. We shall see, it is over a year from now, so the "itinerary can change with out notice" clause can come into affect.:cool1::worship:

So, DH, aka DrHug said if one REALLY wanted to do this you could stay overnight and catch up with the ship at the next port. That is assuming, of course, that it would not be on the last night in Hawaii. :scared1:
I just let our reservation go. With our son graduating next year, and other trips planned, it just wasn't in the cards this time. :sad1:

Oh, so sad. We were looking forward to seeing you again. :sad1:

We're in. Marilyn and John, wrinklies and proud Old Geezers!! Well only 'in' as far as we have a reservation. Still have to convince John, find some serious money, and stay well!!! How could we NOT cruise with so many old friends.

OH Marilyn, you don't know how happy this makes me!! YEAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Now we will definitely have to have a Triton's lunch with Angie and Dennis and Jan and Tom and you two and me and John. I'm so happy that ALL my favorite people are on this cruise.:banana:

Sounds like fun to me!! :thumbsup2:grouphug::dance3:

I think DCL will do a luau or have excursions that include the show itself if not some of the food.

.....And if your luggage allowance doesn't permit you to fly in your FE gifts, there is always ABC stores in Honolulu with gift size chocolate-covered Macadamia nuts in cute little Mickey boxes....

What is an ABC store?
Where is the ABC store?
I think you have just answered my perenial dilemma of what do I bring back a souvenirs!!

:yay: Lynne :thumbsup2

We bring a couple of cases of chocolate-covered Macadamia nuts back every time we go to Hawaii. They are wonderful and not expensive!

One can only hope.:thumbsup2 Still happy just to be on the ship........now that I am I am hoping they change something to give us more time. I have no interest in Mexico.

:sad2: I didn't even know you were on this cruise. I understand though.......I think this being a test run hopefully we will see more Hawaii cruises in the future.

Marilyn, I will be happy to help anyone based on their particular interests. I know on the Oahu, a must see is the Arizona Memorial. I also enjoyed seeing the USS Missouri and the Bowfin.

Any questions about any of the Islands, please ask away as I have gone many, many times since the 1960's. In addition, my DD Samantha is living in Waikiki right now.

Just remember you said ask away.:rotfl2:I have never been to Hawaii and don't even no where to begin. I have been searching the :surfweb: and it all seems confusing and forget about pronouncing the names.

I am interested in the best, quickest way to see a volcano.
Some waterfalls & maybe a zipline trip ?
Some of the things you mentioned are already on my list to see so you can leave Oahu off the above list.

ABC Stores sells more macadamia nuts, suncare products, souvenirs and other visitor-related products than anyone else in the state. Like most convenience store chains ABC Stores has multiple outlets; seventy-eight stores that span the Pacific from our home base - Hawaii to Guam and Saipan, along with our newest location - Las Vegas, Nevada.

Today there are ABC Stores on every major island in the State of Hawaii and the ABC concept has been exported to Guam, Saipan and Las Vegas.

ABC Stores employs more than 900 Associates. Almost all the stores open 365 days a year from 6:30 AM to 1 AM.

Finger crossed please for me that I will find a roomie for this cruise (thanks to Monica) and you will see me aboard!!

Keeping everything crossed for you. I will love sailing with you (almost) again.

Rent a car for the volcano and helicopter for the waterfalls, except for the big island then a helicopter is needed for viewing the volcano.

Hawaii - Oahu - Honolulu - Kualoa Ranch
.......
No photo op is complete without a "Shaka" shot. That's my DB on the right.

Shaka???

I'm all for "tweeking" - more time in the islands would be awesome. On our 2007 cruise we stopped in Ensenada but it was for less than an hour and it was right around midnight. It wasn't an embarktion port, which is why I was suprised that it was an embarktion port on this cruise taking up over 8 hours.

:tink:Please, please, please DCL add at least 5 hours to one of the ports so we can do some night time activities. :tink: sprinkling pixie dust hoping.

:thumbsup2

I would love to go to a luau, i will sign that petition to extend one days port hours:goodvibes

does anybody know are the wave phones on the wonder now? that would be nice.

i have a ressie with dreams for a dummy date, but the ta couldnt get me a better rate when booking opened than i could for a new ressie that morning. However, i know that when rooms open up tonight i could get a better room with 10% off than the rate i have, it's frustrating, but i suppose their is nothing i can do because when rooms open up dcl phones arent open at 12 midnight even if i did have control of the ressie right and i cant transfer it online am i correct? thanks for any suggestions.

I would sign one if it helped.

I'm going to Hawaii! Tons of familiar faces! This will be my first time in Hawaii! Can't wait! :cool1::cool1:

I screamed that phrase the other day and it felt good. Always wanted to go but never made it.

I am really sympathetic as DH just can not take more time after the MV of the Fantasy to do this trip,

My DH can't take anymore time off and that's why I am rooming with someone. We have a cruise booked for Thanksgiving next year.

Lots of catching up to do..We also have booked this cruise(Cat 5B). Looking forward to our 6th Disney cruise..this will be a great chance to see old cruise buddies..Elaine&Margaret and Scott&Lynn :goodvibes. Also a great chance to meet new Disney cruisers...Just the two of us...sharon and jeanmarc (jm)

That's the one thing Chuck asked me to bring back for him. How do you get that much in your luggage ?

Rent a car for the volcano and helicopter for the waterfalls, except for the big island then a helicopter is needed for viewing the volcano.

I don't want to rent a car. Is there a place close by for a small hike to see waterfalls? I found a place called Akaka on line that looks beautiful ! Helicopter I could do for volcano.

Nice to see you on this cruise.:) Are you still going on June 2012 cruise ? I changed that one to the Thanksgiving one. Someone else posted from Myrtle beach here. I could send a PM for the mini-meet.:)
