Hi Albert,

It's good to be back. Oh boy! What kind of new camera are you getting? I can't decide whether (or not) to bring my DSLR or just the point and shoot. Shoot ! Is there any point in that? :confused3 :rolleyes1

I am starting to get excited about this cruise. I can hardly wait for our Frog, or was that FOG (?) meets. Umm? Anyway. Be sure to bring your gold pins. We just found ours in with our Transatlantic pins. LOL! Just in the nick of time.

I will miss John and Marilyn, our other FOG co-founders.

Be sure to write down the password for us. We forgot it. :lmao:
We'll have to have a draught of Bass

Hugs to Ann for us.

I decided not to bring the DSLR - I lugged it (ok it was film then) to the last Hawaiian trip and decided to bring the little one.....Bought a new one for this cruise.

Yeah, That's kinda what I'm thinkin', but I love my DSLR. :confused3 Oh well, I guess I can live without it! Less to lug around, and probably better pictures...

I stepped on the scale this morning and see that I gained 7 pounds on the cruise last week! Does that mean I will gain 14 on this cruise?? :scared1: I cannot let that happen. I guess I will have to be a participant on deck 4 and not just an observer!:rotfl2: I did, however, just get back from the grocery store and picked up some Magic chocolate hard shell for the soft serve ice cream. :lmao: I kept thinking last week that it would have been nice to have.

Speaking of the soft serve, the last 2 times we sailed on the wonder, all they had was choclate and vanilla to choose from. Last week they had chocolate and vanilla everyday but they also had pineapple coconut ice on one day (very good!,) banana on a couple days and strawberry and blueberry on a couple days. They had regular cones to go with the soft serve. I had packed my own waffle cones. In case you are wondering, I do know how I gained those 7 pounds! :lmao:

I usualy "budget" a pound a day in terms of weight gain. I see you are right on budget.:rotfl: Anyway, remember that this is a 15 day cruise and not 14. Any time spent on deck 4 or in the gym will of course make you come in under budget. I hope I can come in way under. Good luck to you.

You don't know how hard it was for me to give up film, and my beautiful lenses. I am slowly replacing and if I were driving, the DSLR would be with me. But..I cannot check it and, it is bulky and heavy. So I ourchased a new small point and shoot with a viewfinder, at least I can pretend. If I do not use the zoom....Better make sure the manual is on the iPad.

our first four day cruise we could not fit in our clothes for our last night at Palo. Never again:rotfl2: But we have lots of sea days. I am looking forward to the gym. I do not have time at home.

Am I the only silly who will drag my DSLR with me? It's one in a lifetime vacation for us, so I need to :) But i'll have my Point&Shoot with me too....

I won't be bringing my DSLR, but my mom lent me her point and shoot that is like a DSLR, and I have my point and shoot as well. My DSLR is just too bulky to bring.

I am still living in hope that I will get a Brunch for Graham and me. I am doing a group Brunch, but this is not Graham's thing. We have one Palo dinner booked for the night we are in Honolulu, but I am hoping to change this to Pirate night or better still, book a second one.

Corinan

We have Palo for Honolulu also. See you there. Also will be trying to secure a second time on Pirate night. We have never been to the regular dining rooms for Pirate night. Maybe we are missing out on something?

On this sailing, my formal/semi-formal dress will be Hawaiian sundresses and silk Aloha shirts, so it doesn't matter to me if nights are formal or semi-formal, Scott will have a jacket, 1 tie, and a couple of dress shirts.

We are also going to be more relaxed this cruise. It's Hawaii after all.

Hi Jan, I am back after a long absence from DIS. I am glad Mermaid's DH is okay. I am finally getting there too. My goal was to be well enough for the cruise. And since Cardiac Events are not new to me, neither are they a downer; so I agree with you.(Well, they are a downer for the person who has one...LOL.) Is good to be aboard. :goodvibes:grouphug:

Welcome aboard Dr Hug! Glad to hear you are making good progress! Anyone new to the cardiac adventureland will have plenty of experience Adventurers to talk to on our cruise.

Jan

It's great to hear about the flavored Soft Serve. They had that on the Magic in Ict and we were really wondering if it won make it over to the Wonder. My trick to keeping the pounds off on the ship has nothing to do with deck 4 or the gym, I just do not use the elevators. I run up and down the real things instead of the imaginary ones at the gym.

......

I have a long Hawaiian and a long silk Manderian (Jan - I made that one) ..............

Don't know you but I take it a "Welcome Back" is in order.......

Looking forward to seeing that dress!!

Dr Hug is DH of Mrs Mork and has been a busy Adventurer in Cardiac Adventureland in recent months and is successfully making his way from the outback to the cruise ship!! :yay:

.

Gee, I am glad there were resies on the Fantasy Maiden but we of the Dream past had no such luck....

Since Palo brunch is only on sea days and there is only 1 sea day on Dream and half again as many people, I am not surprised none available on that one.

Don't know you but I take it a "Welcome Back" is in order.......

He belongs to me. :lovestruc Not as regular a poster as I am, but he does get excited and participates more closer to cruise time.

(Lexa quoted another -- was it Chip&Dale&Fun? -- who said they were getting a cool new cam to avoid dragging the DSLR around)

For other snapshooters who aren't yet sure: Go compact. I gave up on my SLR of film days in the '90s, and film more than a decade ago. I had so many lenses and paraphernalia that I hardly had time for the shot, what with attaching doodads and testing the light. Been digital since, and pretty happy, too, with Adobe Photoshop Elements. The cam? Canon G11. (The Shutters people were stopping me and asking if that was the Canon G11!) Good low-light, good lens, slow multiframe. Bulky, but a real photographer's digital. Current model is G12 (about $400) or the superb, new and bigger G1X (nearer $500). Some much cheaper, still-good cameras also have HD video, so you can leave the video camera at home.

I suggest to people who aren't taking portraits or setting up a tripod for sunrise/sunset shots and waiting two hours: just get a compact. A 10 MP, 1/2.3 inch sensor is good for all but in the showroom. More MP is not necessarily better unless you do a lot of cropping. Also, if you zoom in more than about 3x, you lose low-light capability. Sit up front and shoot wide. Go to the camera store and get an extra battery. Ask if they have one of those splash-proof, clear zipper bags that you can shoot through, so you can take the camera safely near the water or into the rain.

But it was hard to break me away from my trusty ol' Mamiya Sekor 500 DTL.

OK....kind of a downer day. DW just found out that she has to have a knee replacement. She went through the injections, then knee surgery but the arthritis is killing her. Doctor wanted to do the injections again, but insurance company rejected since she has had them before. They feel that if they did not work the first time they won't work a second. I understand that to a certain degree, but they would rather spend $30,000 for a replacement than spend the money for the injections. Next problem, when to have the surgery. Four days in the hospital for surgery, one to two weeks in rehab hospital and then physical therapy. All told, about 3 or 4 months from beginnng to end. We have this cruise, a 5 day out of NY in September and then 7 night on the Fantasy in December. Guess she will have the surgery end of May or beginning of June. Then she can look forward to the September Canada cruise. It just does not get easier--guess that is what happens when you get old.....er.

I have Canon T1i and yes it's heavy and bulky, but on my last cruise I made around 2000 pictures in one week and maybe 200 on my point&shoot Canon SD1200...

Pineapple Coconut! Oh dear:scared1: I am in deep trouble now.

Not that I can see - I'm hoping whatever night I picked turns out to be Pirate night. I'm like Alan on this one - just as soon give it a miss.

Beats the alternative though! Sorry about the need for surgery, but won't it be nice to ultimately be pain free?

Loooong time ago I signed up on the spreadsheet for group transportation to the port... did anything ever come of that (and I missed it?) or are we on our own??
Not interested in Disney transportation because they go too late! ;)
Anyone else wanting to go early and want to share a van? Primetime quotes $48 for two people in a shared van... but a private van for up to 7 people is $86 or $96 for up to 9 guests. :drive:

Not sure if anyone still needs Palo brunch but I just checked because I wanted to change my time and the last sea day is showing available for 11:30am for two people.

Hope that helps someone,
Kristan
