April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Inagural Wonder to Hawaii-Part 4

So, just got home from work and DCL left me a message that the Town, Country and Tequila excursion for Ensenada is now canceled! It was a prerecorded message which didn't go into specifics but they said something about "constantly looking out for what's best for their cruisers". Did anyone else get a message about a canceled excursion for Ensenada. They said I could book another excursion through the website. But if they canceled this due to violence in the area, I'm concerned about booking anything else!

We are flying in on the 27th.. And spending a couple days at DL. I ordered daiper supplies via Babies Travel Lite, that way they are on the ship waiting. We will only need to travel with a small supply for the 2 days before we board. He only uses about 3 a day, so that shouldn't take up to much luggage space.. And actually will probably only need to be put in a diaper bag. Thank you for the idea!.. I was thinking about doing a local store run for things like shampoos and heavier items that would take up space in our checked bags..I understand there is a Target or WalMart about a mile away from the Candy Cane Inn where we are staying prior, so that is just a short cab ride away!.. I still need to do a "practice" packing so I know what I might need to buy there or bring along. The thought of packing for me and 2 young boys has me a little :scared1:!

See if my idea will help...I buy 90% of all our toiletries in small travel size...Target has great selection, but usually have to go there and Wal-Mart and a local large drug store chain to find all my brands. For some things I definitely need two travel bottles, but that weights a lot less than regular small bottle. Plus our last night I leave it all behind when I pack to go home. I put 1-2 small bottle in a snack size ziplock and put multiples of those bags in a quart size because that size plastic is thicker. I tuck bags into shoes, suitcase corners, anywhere in between stacks of clothes I can. I have never had a leak and they really don't take a lot of room.
The most I have to take a lot of is baby powder :) use it for bath powder and for skin comfort in hot weather. I take a small square plastic snap lock container, put a small powder puff in it and 3-4 small bottles of powder to refill it with. For two adult women that is out largest toiletry need...Of course being a senior citizen we won't discuss the size of my make-up bag or that I hand carry it with medicine because it is just, as if not more, important! :confused3

I vote they scrap Mexico all together and dock in Canada for our foreign port!.. Not that it would happen, but, one can suggest or think out loud. :rotfl2: Or, if the violence is that bad in Mexico, you would think that the "dock in a foreign port" law could be adjusted until things calm down in Mexico.

I will have to check that out and try it!.. I am not a make up wearer, so I don't have to worry about that!.. Plus, I am not very frilly, I am very simple, so I try to get away with dressing as simple as I can. This will cut down down on extra shoes, accessories , etc. I would rather be comfortable than flashy!..So my clothes packing will be simple, comfy shorts, pants, and t-shirts. I am on vacation, I do not want to work hard at getting dressed!.. Formal night will be the exception. Plus I have 2 little people to dress as well. :rolleyes1

I got an email about this today. I have changed to the Adult Only Departure of the Wine Country tour. This kind of thing has happened to us on a few cruises and it was always down to some contractual issue with the tour operator.

OK, So I have my documents, and it is 4 weeks tomorrow until we leave for USA (We are spending a few days in San Diego first). So, I am starting to think about packing for myself, my hubby, my 2 tween girls and my baby boy, and quite frankly, it's hurting my brain!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

We are away for just over 3 weeks total. So I am thinking 3 weeks worth of nappies (diapers), wipes, food, etc. There's 1 whole suitcase. I was reading a few post back about the delivery service on the ship, I think I need to look further into this.

Oh and, What about food? Will Disney make food for my baby? Or do I need to bring it all? He will be 9 months, so still eating mostly mush. Will they bring me a plate of mashed or well cooked veges? I can give him fruit from the buffet for breakfast. And can i order a sandwich from room service for lunch for him? HELP!!!:confused3:confused3:confused3

I have my Hawaiian name, Hayley = Hailei
And the rest of the family, Terry = Keli, Lucinda = Lukina, Arabella = Alapela, Orlando = Olanako. I really like all of them and am very tempted to have a whole new FE made with our Hawaiian names.... :rolleyes1

I read someone got moved out of the accessible room and got upgraded, anyone else had any pixie dust? Didn't think it would happen on this cruise as it's so booked, but you never know.... ;)

I used the Babies Travel Lite delivery site for my diapers. They have a bundle that comes with diapers, wipes, stinky diaper bags, and changing pads.. It really wasn't un-reasonably priced, considering that you don't have to have an entire piece of luggage to carry it in!.. They do also offer meal time bundles, that have baby foods in them. You might want to check them out.. You might find it much easier than lugging around all of your baby supplies!..

Playing devil's advocate here...for those of you needing diapers and ordering them to be delivered at the ship, what happens if they are not there when you arrive? Does the ship sell them? We are at sea for so many days before we reach land that I'm sure you would need more then what's in your diaper bag. I know these thoughts always went through my mind when going on vacations with kids in diapers.

OK dumb question time.

How are people getting from the Double Tree to the ship?

Jennifer and Dennis

Doubletree has a free shuttle. Just ask to book on it at checkin

How many wear jeans to regular dinner nights? Or do most dress more "business" casual than just jean casual? :confused3

You will see jeans at regular dinners, but they are way to heavy and hot for us in tropical weather. We did take and wear them on the Alaska cruise.

Bob loves Hawaiian shirts - that is all he wears. He has over 250 of them. In addition to the new ones he buys, we go the the vintage clothes stores and thrift shops looking for vintage Hawaiian shirts. While he has bought tons of new shirts in Hawaii, he has never had any luck in their thrift stores.
He looks for shirts made in Hawaii and is pretty selective. I love Tommy Bahama silk shirts, and he has a number of them, but he prefers the cotton Tori Richard from Hawaii. At least here in the west coast, we find tons of them in the thrift stores. We often find them with the tags still one them, $100 shirts for $5. I guess people buy them for, or on, vacation and then find they don't wear them and send them to the Goodwill or Salvations Army. I look for books while he hunts for shirts.
So you'll see Bob with a different Hawaii shirt each day. When he was teaching high school he would give a prize to the student who noticed he had worth the same shirt twice, which he would do one time a semester.
In the islands, Walmart has the best selection and price for cotton, wear-on-vacation Hawiian shirts. They also have a good selection of women's inexpensive hawaiian clothes. They are all over the islands.

I LOVE them also. Dennis has several, certainly not nearly the collection Bob has. What a fun idea he had as a teacher to wear one a second time each semester and see who was paying attention. :goodvibes

It looks like we will be doing the Adults only Wine tour with you Corinna. I was able to book us without a problem, I was thinking that because it is so late that it would be sold out. Oh well. At least we can buy that great sounding Olive Oil that someone was raving about.

List of Lanyard Team members? At the very least the names of the two guys doing all the work!

http://www.babiestravellite.com/

We were on a cruise with a family with a small baby. The mom brought food for him - it was in plastic packaging - BUT she brought it at the rate he normally ate - and he blew through that really quickly - something about sea air:laughing:

She had some kind of "feeder" that she stuffed with watermellon, seeds and all. (edit - it's the Munchkin Fresh food feeder on the baby's travel lite website) He sucked the fruit through the mesh of the thing and the seeds stayed behind.

If your baby's not that small, mashed table food should work great. Lots of sandwiches available both through room service, table service, buffets and at goofy's gallery. Trust me - baby won't starve!

Hawaiian names

Angela (my given name) Anela or Angie (who I am) Anie Think I will go with that one since Annie is what Dennis calls me sometimes.

Dennis is Kenike

So, Dennis and Angie

Kenike and Anie

I wondered this to, BUT, I have to hope that they make it!. I will bring a few extra other than what is in the diaper bag, and if worse comes to worse, I will have to buy them on the ship, and hope that I can get more cheaper when we hit the first island. I have already paid for the delivery service, and I would hope that if they didn't get delivered as promised that they would reimburse me and maybe even a little extra for having to pay the ship prices if I had to purchase them.

Corinna, I think it was decided that the DIS meet would be in the Promenade Lounge at 3 pm where we would also get our lanyards.

BTW, I am also doing the wine tour in Ensenada!
