April 28, 2011 3 night Dream

I say A as well....any idea on a location?

Still a surprise for my guys! They keep asking what is taking their christmas gift so long to get here. I keep trying not to slip up and use it as a threat- If you keep up that behavior you will stay home! Has almost come out a few times :) I was thinking of having them all wear their Santa hats on the plane they will already be wearing castaway cay tshirts.:santa:
LOL. Still a surpise for mine as well and I have almost slipped way to many times. Everytime they dont do as they say..and I had to hide the documents as I am trying to get everything in order, we are leaving on the 22nd.

Where did you get the castaway cay shirts?

Okay guys it's really time to narrow this meet and greet thing down if we are going to do one. Please vote for one choice:

A.) Meet after 2nd seating on day one (Thursday)

B.) Meet after 2nd seating on day two (Friday -Nassau)

C.) Meet after 2nd seating on day three (Castaway Cay)

D.) Not meet up at all

If you have another suggestion feel free to share. :)

I vote for A. I have been away for awhile but I'm getting so EXCITED! I have started packing. My DD keep asking me where we going. I keep telling her we are going to visit a cousin she has never met.

Okay I am trying to keep track. I have six votes now with Carstinkmom so far for (A) and we still have at least 5 more people that can vote. So, we'll give it a bit more time to see what the majority thinks. :) And then we'll vote on a location.

Hi April 28th Dream cruisers!!! I'm here to ask for a huge favour. We're sailing on the May 5th 3-night Dream cruise, and our current plan is to drive to port, park in the parking garage, and begin the boarding process between 11:30 and noon. That's also our arrival time we selected in the on-line check-in.

I am wondering if anyone on this Apr 28 cruise has a similar plan? If so, would anyone be willing to take a few notes and let me know how things go in the first couple of days after your cruise ends? Please PM me if you might be able to accomodate this favour. Thank you!

I don't know about anyone else here, but I plan on posting my terminal experience on the DISboards as it unfolds. It seems like has been quite a nightmare for folks here on the boards and they are handing out boarding numbers all willy nelly. I am also thinking about getting a room the night before even though it's less than a 3 hour drive for me. It's amazing how much things change with Disney, I just sailed over Thanksgiving arrived at the terminal at 10:15 and got boarding number two and had absoluetly no issues.

I am as confused as everyone :confused3
Hope we are in line right behind you. :cutie: We are driving over from Orlando/MCO that morning and plan on arriving by 10 a.m. (Our "official" port arrival time is 10:30) hoping for the best.

Greetings from the cold prairies of central Canada (it snowed two days ago !?!!).

We haven't logged in for a while but I completed all of the work for my masters last week so now can think about our trip again. We got our docs by FedEx last week as well so now the trip feels "real". I've read through some of the posts and wow - you folks are so well organized! I've finally pulled out the suitcases and started to sort some warm weather clothes.

I'm going to try to make a door magnet for over the cabin number – the links on Dis are great!

We’re not booking any excursions since we want to see as much of the new ship as possible but someone posted their Navigators from an earlier cruise and DD (18) saw that there is a 5k on Castaway Cay so we might be getting up early that day for a run,.....

Thanks for all of the great advice from experienced DCL cruisers - it is very helpful and appreciated.

Cheers,

My parents went last year and brought all of the kids back tshirts. You cant get anything related to the cruise from Disney.com but I did call them and they said that you can order over the phone directly from the disney cruise line. I lost the number but just call the 800 for disneyshopping & ask about it.

Really a 5k track-do tell! I hate running on treadmills and in a circle on a track.

Yeah for Mickey Ears and magnetic tape! LOL! Welcome back to the forum and thanks for your vote and for the compliment, but I for one don't feel so organized. I haven't booked nor figured out how to pay for my hotel yet, nor have I finished putting together my FE's or even started packing! LOL! Just the other night I finally located my cabin on the ship deck plans and looked to see where everything is in comparison.

PS
I have thought about doing that run everytime I sail, but have yet to make myself do it. Course' I haven't made it over a mile yet anyway. But good for your daughter! :)

PSS
I can't gtd their won't be rain- we have been gettong some nasty storms here in Florida, but at least you won't have to deal with snow. :thumbsup2

I thought about staying at Downtown Disney the night before and really getting my Disney vacation started, but then I figured if I want to get there early and sleep in a bit we better try to closer to the port. DH and I normally just drive over leaving by 7:30am as it only takes us about three hours, but this new boarding thing is starting to panic me as I want to be on early. I have gotten spoiled with being the first folks on the ship and now it's just tradition. In November we were litterally the first ones at the buffet and had to wait for them to open. You and I have the same arrival time for the port, it's a shame we won't be able to hook up at the terminal.

We sail in . . .

;) We might be easier to find than you think
I have a feeling we're going to stick out like sore thumbs . . .us 4 ladies :dance3:

Hi newjerseymomma

My daughter saw the 5K listed in a couple of Navigators so searched the DIS for information. It appears that they do the fun run whenever there is a CM prepared to lead /organize it. The experience is varied depending on the CM in charge – as to be expected.

The following information was provided by other Dis members:

(quote 1) “I ran it in January. No certificate, but you get a water bottle. 8:30 am disembark, meet the cast member on the pier. They walk you over to the island map sign, show you the route, and everyone takes off at their own pace. Be sure to check in at the end of the run, where they take your name and room number. The gift bag shows up later that day. Take your camera with you.”

(quote 2) “I just did this on 11/20. We met just outside the gangway at 8:30. Debarkation was at 8:30, so there was quite a crowd at deck 1 wanting to get off the ship. About 8:45 our guide got us started. We did have to dodge the early off guests for the first little bit but it wasn't bad. It was definitely a fun run- no rush. I took lots if pictures along the way! But be sure to take the offer of a water bottle, as it got plenty hot and humid. There was a nice DCL water bottle waiting for us at the finish as well.”

(quote 3) “My DH and I ran it on the Western Cruise on December 3/10. The runners / walkers met in Diversions. I believe we had Mike as our CM. We signed a list of those wanting to participate and gave our room number. We were escorted past the people waiting to get off and started our run. Chip and Dale ran with us for about 100 feet but then got too tired to continue. We ran down the main path, through the public area, past the family beach, past the bike rental, around the only turn-a-bout on the island, down the landing strip, around the bike path, down to Serenity Bay, turned right and ran down to the end of the road where the massage cabanas are and returned to the entrance to Serenity Bay. Over all it was close to 3.5 miles. It took us about an hour (I'm slow). The best part was there was a shuttle waiting to take us back, but we ended up walking back to the boat. It was great to say that we have completed a 5k on a Caribbean island. We enjoyed doing it but did not receive the water bottle that we had heard was given out. We do have a beautiful pic from the end of the road with the cabanas on it. Hope this helps.”

I am a walk/jogger but my daughter is a pretty hard core runner so there is a good chance I’ll be taking pictures at the start and finish and lounging on a beach chair in between! I do think that it would be a great way to see the island and do something different on vacation.

Do you think you’ll run this?

Hi folks

Mmketeer, I felt soooo much better after reading your post. I have been worried about having too much to do in the last few days but you're right, there is time to book things like hotels. Thanks - I needed that!

We got our room assignment (we were GTY) and its an accessible room so the reviews say that it is a different shape (more square than rectangle) and doesn't have a tub but has a larger bathroom. I don't care too much about the room really as I'm only going to be in the cabin to sleep and eat room service anyway.

DizzylandDeb, thanks for the countdown clock and for the challenge, ... let's see who can pick DizzylandDeb and her band of merry ladies out of the crowd in the terminal.

Cheers,

Hmmm I will look more into the run. I love to run and was planning on bring my running clothes with me in hopes that I could sneak out for a bit. I have a hard enough time getting out at home with my entourage. The run on the island is going to be challange with the kids. My mom is going to be with me and I am not sure she will be thrilled if I say I am going to run while you get the kids ready for the beach....wishful thinking!

Has anyone heard if they put the Flying Dutchman back yet? I know they used it for the filming of the movie & I was praying it would be back before we sailed. The movie is being released in May. If it is not back I hope they still have Jack Sparrow on the islandpirate:

From what I read here on the DIS, the Flying Dutchman has been dismantled and removed. It was apparently deteriorating because of the elements. Not sure what will take its place. :confused3
