April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

Ooohhh, I love your new kitchen!! It looks awesome!!

I love Idol too! We watch every year!! I agree that Sanjaya should be gone by now. He sings ok, but certainly not great!!!

Val, I've never bought any of the Idol's CDs, but I did get Chris Daughtry for Christmas from my DH and it's a REALLY great CD.

I agree about Sundance too. I was like this :scared1: when he got eliminated last week. He was my pick for atleast final four.

You guys are brave with all the remodeling. We totally redid our very first house. New siding, new floors everywhere, fresh paint, carport, deck, storage buildings. I don't want to ever have to deal with it again. :lmao: We built a new house 2 years ago, and made sure we had it right before moving in. I told DH I didn't want to have to keep "under construction" signs around the new home. We do have one project going now, that's finishing out the basement. We've split it into two sections. One half is DH's workshop, the other will be finished out for a fun family room/playroom. As of now, DH is hanging the sheet rock, and hanging the lights. I joke with DH and call him "Tim the Tool Man" all of the time. He gets 'the look' any time we go to a home improvement store, and I cringe. :rotfl: He has so many tools & gizmos now, I can't imagine that he'd possibly "need" anything else. :confused3 ;)

Amanda, the similarities just keep coming!! Remodeling old houses, building new houses (at around the same time even!), workshop in the basement (ours isn't done yet--we had to have the family room and my office done before moving in so I could work and have the boys right there with me), and TOOLS! We have a four-car garage and a shed, and they are both full of tools and "toys" (big boy and little boy toys). It makes DH feel so good when he has the right tool for the job, though. DH's workshop will be in our huge storage room, but we have two other rooms to finish yet--bathroom and another room for ? (we don't know what yet). Our bathroom has paint and flooring, but we just need a toilet and sink (the shower went in during construction).

Oh, my DH has TONS of tools in the garage. He always needs the latest & greatest power tools, because of course, he can't do the "xxxxxxx" project without them. So, he always gets them, because I don't know any different.

I did finish priming my dining room walls yesterday. I'm taking a break from painting today (partly because my body is aching), and I'm doing laundry, cleaning, bills & taxes. Then, I'll put the actual color on the walls tomorrow (maybe I'll start later tonight if I have the energy). Now, that's only the top of the walls (above the chair rail). DH needs to cut the new wainscoting, then I can prime and paint that too. I'll be happy when this project is done, but boy you forget home much work it is!!!

:rotfl: I'm glad to see other husbands have Tool World at home also.

Way to go Amy!! Atleast give yourself a little bit of a break today. Your muscles will thank you. :cool2:

Last night right after I was here, DH asked how long until the cruise. I said "ticker said 1 month, 1 week,1 day" He just laughed. Then started talking about the cruise meet thread. I said "oh yes, these past couple of days we've been talking about our families and stuff" His eyes get big, and he said "What did you tell them about me? Are they all gonna look at me like I'm a freak or something?" :lmao: Ummmm, no. I said "We'll all be excited to meet each other. We've just been sharing things about our lives so we'll be better acquainted." He still gave me that weird look - goes back to the fear of the internet I guess.

Maybe this will be my first! :music:

SAME HERE! Usually each project constitutes buying at least one tool to "do the job right." I'm just glad he is organized with the garage/shed. His dad's place is a mess! He didn't want to clean up one garage/shop, so he built another one! And now that one is the same way! FULL OF CRAP! The last time Hudson was in the first shop, he had a scared look on his face and said, "Daddy, what happened in here?!? It's a mess!" :lmao:

Good luck getting the project all finished up! You'll have to post photos when you're done!

Ok, I'm back to thread-stalking again today. :lmao:

I think that my DH has gotten use to this whole DIS meet stuff now, since this is our 5th DCL cruise. Only one of those cruises didn't have a semi-large DIS group. So now, he knows that I chat on here and get to know people. He just rolls with the punches now and enjoys it all. Plus, he's pretty outgoing on his own, so he fits right in once we're on the ship.

Ohh, see, my garage is like this horrible mess!!! Have you seen those shows like Mission: Organization or Clean Sweep?? There are 2 rooms in my house that actually look worse that those on TV - the garage and the office!!!:rotfl2:

Hi everyone!!

Love the kitchen!!

Watched Idol too agree with all comments. Why is the Michael Jackson wanna be still on??????

My DH is a plumber--has all the tools he could ever need....NOT!!!!! Bday and christmas requests are always for tools. I'm not too sure where they all end up.

Our basement currently is a MESS. I mean total disaster. DH says when the room gets finished, he is going to organize & clean out his part, and get everything put away and get rid of things he doesn't need. I say :rolleyes1 I don't even go to "his" side of the basement anymore. I'd fall & hurt myself for sure. He can go down there & find what he needs, but for me it's an impossible task. If he really does get rid of some things there, I will be shocked! We went through this when we moved, dumping out boxes of things he said "I might need it someday...." :rotfl2: That day never came, since we threw out a LOT of bits & pieces of things.

I'm not too sure where they all end up.

In a box, on a shelf, under something......then they can't see it for looking at it, and say "Come help me find this...." :rotfl2: If I had the faintest idea of what I was looking for it would really help!!

I've only seen the little bit that was on Oprah a few weeks ago (which I just watched last week). DH gets a bunch of guff from some friends because he occasionally brings home the floor scrubber that he has at work to clean his garage floor. :rotfl:

Lennon is known for doing the "dump, kick, run." He dumps out all the toys, kicks them around, and then runs away from them and leaves the mess. My sister is my cleaning lady (and she's here right now!), so they have to be picked up when she comes because she threatens to throw them away, but usually they are scattered everywhere. I wish I could train them to pick up and put away before moving to a different toy, but that must only be "preschool behavior" because it only happens there and not here! IT DRIVES ME CRAZY! Our old house was very disorganized, but we knew when we moved in here that we wanted to be organized. DH is doing a better job at it than I am, though.

Gotta go get boys from preschool! :drive:

Love it!! Amanda you are exactly right!!! I can find the tools he is looking for faster than he can.

As a guy I feel I have to somewhat defend the tools discussion. Being a computer geek and picking up a power tool for the first time when I finished our basement 3 years ago, I can say I don't get the buy a tool for every job theory that most men subscribe too. My wife would probably disagree. But, I tend to subscribe to the Alton Brown philosophy - no tool should have only one purpose. If I am going to but a tool for something, I have to be able to think of at least 2 or 3 other uses it could have in the future. With all of this being said, was I happy that my neighbor had the exact saw I needed when building our deck - yes! Would I have bought it - no!

Funny American Idol story ... my sister got my oldest son addicted 2 years ago when he was 5. His favorite at the time was Anthony. When he got voted off, my son was inconsolable and cried himself to sleep. Guilted my sister with that for months. We are now addicts.

I too stalk the DIS while at work as it is slow for me at the moment. I just don't post. :sad2:

OMG - that happens at our house too!!! We're working with Emily to pick up her toys before she moves to something else. She has started getting an allowance for doing chores around the house (a whole dollar $), but it's exciting for her, and it helps when she complains about cleaning.

Years ago, when Emily was around 2, she used to dump out all of her toys from those multi-colored toy bins. Chris got tired of it, so he drilled holes in the backs of all of the plastic bins and zip-stripped them to the holder, so she couldn't just dump them out. Now, Madison just takes out all the toys piece by piece, it takes longer, but the same result, toys all over the floor!!!:scared1:

That's how my 5 yr old is!!! She gets SO hooked on one person, and if they don't win, she is heartbroken. You should have seen her during the Super Bowl. She picked the Bears, since I'm originally from the Chicago area, and when they didn't win, she started crying. Nothing we could do could console her.

You should post with the rest of us thread-stalkers!!! :lmao:

Oooh, I like Alton Brown also. Val probably does too, she just isn't here to say so. :rotfl2:

DH doesn't buy everything, but oh boy, does he love to look! For his birthday in Feb. he wanted a new tool, the one he had totally broke. I kept saying "Just go get it" We walked around the store for 10 minutes while he thought about it. He finally went through with it though, and is sooo happy. He's definitely not an impulse buyer, but he sure does smile when he gets the new stuff home.

OK, let's get one more thing straight. You can't lurk anymore. :rotfl: You NEED to post and join us thread stalkers. If you don't like chocolate or want a more "man themed" door sign, I'll be glad to create one. But you need to chatter so Val, Amy & I don't seem like we're overwhelming this thread. Even if you post to say "Hi" and "guess what I had for lunch today", we'd still like to read it. :)

Nice kitchen, Molli! :woohoo: Isn't it all worth it now? Don't you love stainless appliances and recessed lighting? What is your island cabinetry--cherry, walnut, other?
Your yellow really makes it bright and cheery! :thumbsup2

thanks! our cabinets are maple, the outer wall cabinets have a white distressed staining and the island just the distressed staining, i forget the real term the cabinet maker used. We are fortunate to have found Amish cabinetry maker who quoted me the same price as Home Depot. I read about concrete countertops :teeth: glad they turned out so well. i hired an interior designer just to consult with me along the way, she convinced me to do the white cabinets b/c I wanted a bright and cheery kitchen! see? it worked!! i had trouble having them paint beautiful wood cabinets and DH likes the wood look too, hence the island compromise but i love the accented look of it.

speaking of Alton Brown, who i think is a crack-up; i have the trivection oven that he teamed with GE to make. love it -- it's a speed bake

definately my DH is in on the must-have-new-tool-for-each-new-job conspiracy :rotfl: but he treats me to so much, i just stand back and let him go at it :scared:

you all have been busy this morning, i just finished ironing and hanging lots of clothes to drop off at consignment store tomorrow. maybe i'll make enough for a week rainforest pass!

Taylor bought Bo Bice CD and really liked it -- i gave Preston (DH) the Chris Daughtery CD for valentines day and he and Taylor both gave it :thumbsup2

do we have any Survivor fans on board?

do we have any Survivor fans on board?

On our cruise in '04, we were trying very hard to find out if Rob or Amber won on Survivor All Stars. That was the only reason we accessed the internet all week. :lmao:

Huge fans of Survivor, Amazing Race and Idol. My DW likes The Apprentice too, but I can't stand Donald and think there are way to many type A's on the show.

do we have any Survivor fans on board?
Oh, most definitely!!! Thursday nights are TV night around here!!! But, I have to say that I'm getting a bit bored with that one team always winning!! I'm glad that they're shaking it up this week.

I'm a reality TV show junkie!!! I don't watch them all, but there are a few that I do like. I love Survivor and Amazing Race, those are my absolute favs. Then comes American Idol and Big Brother, but BB has SO many episodes since it's on multiple times a week that I don't usually keep up.
