April 21, 2007 -- Western Magic -- anyone?

Hi Everyone!!

Val--Don't worry about the main cruise board. Sometimes people just don't understand (or think) about what they are saying. If you want to take food or water on board -- you go right ahead and do it! Heck, I would rather spend extra money on a special photo of the family with minnie or mickey!!

Amanda--Me too on the clothing thing. We have a JC Penny outlet near us and I got my formal night dress for $29.99. Just saw it at our local Bon-Ton for 100.00!!! I'll just mix and match for the rest of the nights. We're casual also. Wish I could ware flip flops all the time.

Ohmom---Great door sign!! Haven't started on mine yet.

Whenever I want to come to our cruise thread, probably 99% of the time I see the last post from all the cruise threads is to the EB Repo in August 2008. I always wondered how that could be, but then I see there are over 40,000 posts! I guess that's what you expect when everyone on the entire ship will (probably) be DIS members! Sold out the first day...it's gotta be because of DIS! If you didn't know about DIS, you probably wouldn't know how to be lucky enough to get a reservation for that cruise! So I took a quick peek to see what it's all about...pure insanity! :crazy2: Constant posts! From the time I read the last page (and was completely lost because I had no idea what they were talking about), a whole entire page had been added! I don't see how anyone can keep up with reading it or even be able to remember what replies are for what subject! I know ours has had a slow couple days, but at least it's not like that.

Just had to share my brief visit to insanity (and I'm glad I'm back!)...:rotfl:

Val

Oh yeah, that thread is out of control!!!!:lmao: Not nearly as crazy, but we had quite a few posts on our SSMC06 DVC Member cruise thread. There were days that we would have to get through 10-12 pages of posts. Now, that thread was WAY different than this one. We spent a LOT of time getting to know everyone, so by the time we cruised, we were almost the best of friends. Actually, some of us had cruised together during SSMC05, so it was a "reunion" of sorts.

Plus, as we were in the last few weeks of the cruise, we had daily countdowns, DCL tips of the day, and even Get to Know your Fellow Cruiser questions (like fav color, dream job, etc). It made it a lot of fun!!! And, to this day, we still post what's going on in our lives and we've had several get togethers outside of that cruise.

Get OUT! I couldn't keep up with that many posts. ;) I do however find myself telling DH about the DIS a lot, especially when we talk about cruise plans. He still thinks it's weird to visit message boards & actually "talk" to people all around the world. But again, he uses the computer to buy stuff on eBay, and that's it! He doesn't know the fun he's missing out on. :p

I thought that I had previously read that a family on this board was going on a Captain Marvin stingray excursion. I just booked the 11:15 2 hour trip for DD and me. DH and DS are going diving. -We should get back in town around 11:15. Would there be enough time to go to a beach?

I just realized that I reserved the wrong night for Palo. Before I cancel my reservations, does anybody here want them? They are for Monday night @7:30 p.m. for a party of 2.

Wendy

Amanda--ARE YOU MARRIED TO MY HUSBAND?????? :rotfl2: Just kidding. Mine sounds the same way. Life revolves around eBay. He has a few forums that he just lurks on, so he knows how addicting they are. He very rarely posts to them, though. It was funny when I first discovered DIS, I was the computer hog, for a change--not him!

I, too, don't seem to be able to mention DCL without saying, "Oh, and I read on DIS that if you...(this sentence can be finished a million different ways)."

I don't know if DH is too keen on occasionally meeting up with people I've met here, but he's just going to have to live with it! I think he's afraid we'll get a "sticky booger"--you know, those people that you just can't get rid of (like a sticky booger :rotfl: ). My side of the family tends to attract those kinds of people, so I think he's wondering if our booger-free time is almost up. :hourglass The funny thing is that we can go anywhere, and complete strangers will strike up a conversation with him out of nowhere! He's just an approachable guy, I guess. If we did end up with a sticky booger, it would probably be someone that has never even heard of DIS, so at least then it wouldn't be my fault! I just need to remind him that everyone there wants their own "family vacation," just like we do, and that we don't have to spend every waking minute with someone we just met.

I hope I'm not sounding like we are :snooty: , because we're not. It's just an inside joke in my family. I really am up for meeting new people! :thumbsup2

Amy--What are these "SSMC05 and SSMC06" cruises that you've done with some of the same people? That sounds like fun! I guess I hadn't thought about it, but this thread probably could live forever. I just assumed it would end or fade away into nonexistence after the cruise. Is that how you keep in touch with those people? Interesting! The weird thing about that EB Repo cruise thread is that they just started posting in mid-January, and they already have over 40,000 posts. They still have a year and a half, so I'm sure they will have over a million by then!

Mickymania--I ended up reserving Palo for the wrong night, too. We want Thursday (our anniversary) but I got Wednesday instead because Thursday was apparently full on day 75  . If you are wanting Wednesday, you can have mine (as long as I get changed to Thursday onboard!). We'll probably see you in line at Rockin D bar as soon as the ship starts boarding! Good luck on getting what you want (if you want Thursday, too, just let me warn you...I will be wearing my superfast running shoes! ;) )

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Ok, I'm not stalking this thread for new posts (it looks like it since Val just posted this.

Anyway, my DH is the same way about the DIS. He'll come on once in a while to stir up trouble, but most of the time he just goes with the flow. And, you're right about everyone having their own vacation. It's just fun sometimes to run into someone at lunch, a show or an activity and already "know" them a bit.

As for SSMC05/SSMC06, those are just our abbreviations for the S.S. Member Cruise 2005 and 2006 for DVC. We sailed on both (they also had one in 2003) and made a LOT of good friends. Heck, I just posted on our 2006 thread about my youngest started preschool 2 days a week today. We all have just become good friends, so we share our everyday lives. I guess that it depends on how close you become on your cruise. And, even funnier is that all the kids got along SO well that when we've met at other places (Chicago, Michigan, Ohio), they just have fun together like long, lost friends. But, they dont' really get that their "cruise" friends live in other states (not next door).

:rotfl:
I do the SAME thing. We'll talk vacation, and I keep saying "The DIS says...." and finish the sentence. When DH first saw me reading, he'd say "A what? What is a DIS?" Then I had to explain what DH, DD, and all that other stuff meant.

Sticky boogers? :lmao: I attract those types in the grocery stores. Well, sort of. Never fails, people will ask me about a product, or where something is, etc. Um, do I look like I work here? I think not. :upsidedow

Val your DH & mine must be distant relatives. He said the same thing about meeting the DISers. He was afraid he'd say something stupid, or make an idiot of himself. I said "Well you know, they are just regular people like you and I, and if you do something stupid, it will just give me something to post about when we get back home." :thumbsup2 :rotfl2: He's still freaked by the whole "internet strangers" What can I say, too much Lifetime Movie Network? ::yes::

He will get over it though. He's a talkative person in real life, I don't know what his fear is. I'm usually the one standing there, tapping my foot, silently wishing he'd hush so we can move along. Anyone who wants to start a conversation with him can just yell "Git-r-done!" and watch his face light up. ;)

It's okay, Amy. You can admit if you actually were stalking it. I was. ;)

I'm still so new to this DIS that I'm not even for sure what DVC is. Some sort of timeshare that has something to do with points, right? I don't think I want to know too much about it becuase then I'll tell DH that we have to be a part of it, too! It would definitely make sense if we lived in FL like you. Here in Nebraska, I don't think it would be worth it (DH and I can each barely get time away from each of our businesses for the cruise the way it is!). So were these cruises only for DVC members? Sounds like you've made really good friends if you have traveled quite far to spend time with them!

So how do you feel with your youngest in preschool now? Hudson goes to a mornign pre-K class five days a week, and Lennon goes to the same preschool two days a week. They both love it, and I love having a few hours of uninterrupted work time! I cried that first day (back in August) since it was Lennon's first day (did the same on Hudson's first day two years ago) because it made him seem so grown up. He's not a baby anymore!

OMG - that's MY hubby!!! He'll talk to anyone, about anything. Strangers will come up to him and talk and he just keeps talking and talking and talking. And, I'm usually trying to hurry him along. These guys will get along great, and they don't even know it yet.

Ok, I admit it, I was stalking it!!!:rotfl2: Not really, but sometimes it seems like it.

Yes, DVC is basically a time-share that instead of specific weeks, it involves a number of points for each reservation. We've had it since 2001 and we really love it. What's funny though, is that we've spent most of our vacation time lately on the cruise, that we haven't been using our points. And, for this coming year, we had no "use" for our points, so just today, someone that my DH works with rented points from us for a stay that he's having in May. It works out good for both of us, because it's a cheaper stay for him, and we get the money to use towards our next cruise vacation (Dec '08).

It feels odd to have Madison in school now. We actually had her signed up for this past fall, but she refused to potty train until just this past month. For the past several weeks, we have played on the playground with the 2yr olds, so she "knows" many of the kids in the different 2yr old classes. So, it was an easy transition for her. For me, it was odd not to have her with me, but it did make grocery shopping easier today. And, she was so cute when I picked her up at 11:30am, because she was so tuckered out that she fell asleep on the ride home. She can't wait for Thursday.

DH can't understand why I only go to the store on Wed or Fri mornings! I don't have to feel like a mean mommy when they can't have everything they want (even my 5 y/o still cries like a baby if he can't have something that he wants-- very embarrassing in the store!). I'm in, out, and on my way in no time!!

My DH is exactly the same!!!! When I mention DIS he shakes his head and says "not again" When I start out by saying "guess what I read...." he gets this glazed look on his face and tends to just smile and nod.

I'm happy to be with you guys, too! I felt like I was in a whole different world over there! A pirate: world!

:rotfl2: Pirate world!!! Love it!! Freaked me out. Don't think I'll wonder over there again!!

Quick question---Since we are driving to the port ourselves, do I have to be concerned that our luggage will not be in our stateroom before its time to change for dinner? Do I have to pack dinner clothes in our carry on?
