April 2013 Car Rental Discount Thread

Well...my National rate dropped another $2.10 today--down to $148.53. However, I made a new booking with Alamo. Pickup midsize at TPA on 4/1 and return to MCO on 4/7 for a total of $130.79. :cool1:

This is using the code from VISA: ID 7015504 and Coupon Code AD7394SDJ.

For those of you who were having problems with the Alamo website - it got to me tonight. It will not allow me to change the ID code, it is locked into just 1 code. When I called customer service, they were no help at all!
I did find out that my wonderful rate of $143.71 from yesterday (which i did lock into), has risen to $600. plus tonight.

new info - Discovered that as long as I didn't sign in to the Insiders, it works this morning. The price is still as high though. Glad I was able to book it the other night.

I've found when this happens to me I have to dump my cookies to clean things out. I've had it happen a few times now.

Yes, clean your cookies with Alamo!

I didn't see a day to day change in cost, even without signing into Insiders, until I started cleaning cookies.

Still wicked high though! :sad2:

Sorry, kind of technically challenged here...how do I "clean my cookies" with Alamo. Same thing is happening to me on the Alamo site as PP's have stated.

Thanks,

Karen :)

In IE you click on "tools", then "internet options", "browsing history" delete, choose "temp files" "cookies" "history" then "delete" and "OK"

You are so right.
Alamo has been crazy expensive for me on my laptop that I use all the time at home. At work the other day, I "checked" Alamo's prices. Wow- it gave me the rate of $160 April 6-8. I booked right away. :thumbsup2
When I got home I checked prices again to see if I should have added a coupon, but the prices were over $500.00. I really do not like this game- but I will play it for the discount.:sad2:

Keep in mind if you do a general cookies delete you will wipe out all of your cookies, which many people prefer to keep many of them. Better if you selectively delete the offending cookie.

Yes, be careful you don't wipe out passwords to web sites you don't know anymore. Although, in today's world having saved passwords is a no-no!:sad2:
That's why I use cc cleaner alot. I also do rewards sites like Swagbucks and Mypoints so it's a must to use it.

For Firefox Mozilla though, click on Tools then Privacy tab and you have the option to 'Clear Recent History' or individual cookies. Hope that helps.

Well, I checked Alamo for my trip and rates are still awful.

Rates after our DCL Fantasy Cruise April 13-20 seem to be coming back down near the one-way price I booked last May. I booked a Compact from Cape Canaveral back to the airport April 20-22 for $105 and it's $146 today. Which is better than it's been.

I did a comparison for my one ways heading to the port for April 10th to the 13th from various Orlando Alamo Rental sites. These:

Orlando, FL - Orlando Intl Arpt (MCO)
Orlando, FL - Orlando Four Points
Orlando, FL - Orl Walt Disney Car Care
Orlando, FL - Buena Vista Palace Hotel
Orlando, FL - Walt Disney Dolphin 07a9
Orlando, FL - Orlando Peabody Hotel

Here's what I learned (based on Economy Cars):

Airport is the highest~ $300's
Walt Disney Car Care is second highest but lower ~$200's
The Peabody and Buena Vista Palace are tied in around ~$160's
Four Points Sheraton is the second lowest~$140's
The Dolphin is the lowest ~$130's

My one way convertible reservation is $187 presently.

So, if you are staying the first night at Disney, you could use Magical Express instead of renting a car at the airport and then go to Disney's Car Care center the next day to rent from there. (I believe you can ask for a ride there at your Disney Resort's front desk.)

It's still not a good option for me, but I'm keeping an eye on it as I still do not have the first or second night booked anywhere yet.

I don't know where the Peabody is and Buena Vista Palace is a hot walk from Downtown Disney but doable. Yet I have a Converible booked for only $20 more and my middle DS loves Convertibles.

Four Points Sheraton is across from Universal. So if you are going to Universal first on your trip, this may be an option. They have a shuttle but I don't know if it will pick you up at the airport. It just says "Local Area."

Believe it or not, The Dolphin could be a great fit as you don't have to ask for a ride from the Front Desk. Just catch the first available Park (Epcot, MK etc) and go to a park and then grab a bus heading back to the Dolphin. Or Take the bus to Epcot, if you have Disney Park Hoppers and you're doing parks that day, walk thru Future Land to next to the second Entrance next to France and catch the boat back to the Swan & Dolphin.

I'm not biting on the Dolphin reservation as I can Priceline a nice hotel room around the Airport for peanuts and it probably would include a Free Breakfast (me have 3 teenage DS's who eat like cavemen!) rather than pay thru the nose for a Disney Value Resort.

Just thought I'd share my findings. I know most people only want to rent from Airport, me included.::yes::

So i'll be in orlando apr 6-13 and had some reservations made. I periodically check everyday, then 2 days ago I randomly checked dollar and was able to get an economy from Dollar MCO for $180 all in without any codes. The next morning I checked again and it suddenly changed to $300+. I was so glad i reserved when I did, but curious as to why the sudden increase in the price??

My guess is that it's like hotel rooms and airfare. There are a finite number of reservations they're offering in certain price brackets. If they have a gap in reservations as compared to cars they can open up some additional discount reservations and then bump the price again.

It seems to be a constant state of flux, necessitating daily checking.:surfweb:

With Insiders ID only, am getting around $300 - $330, 4/16 - 4/27 for economy thru full size.

the4fishes - best time to check is mid-week (Tues,Wed), in the evening or early morning. My low Alamo rate was on Tues evening...

If you use these codes at Budget but call instead of reserve online, you get an additional $40 off when you return the car. This is the cheapest I've found for a minivan for April 10-19.

BCD X474200

coupon MUPZ044

It took off $40 in my quote...is it an additional $40 at pickup too? I got $331 out the door for 9 days for a minivan.

I believe it is already deducted on your statement. Same as mine...
