April 19, 2008 - Western - VERY Early Roll Call - Anyone??!!

I got the magnet paper at Walmart for about 8$ for a pack of 5 sheets. It is the same size as printer paper and very thin so it will go through the printer. Diane, I only covered the face. I used a laminant that I also got at Walmart for 4$ for a pack of ten. It is the peel and stick kind.

We were on page two, could not let that happen:eek:

Oh, man... that's just beautiful!!!!!! Thanks! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I love that fish extender! I have to get working on finding one for us, as I have no talent to make my own.

We're finally getting over the worst colds ever in this house. We drove to my mom's house in NJ last weekend and my son was coughing so violently on the drive that he vomited all over his carseat. Hopefully I can keep up with the thread better now that we're all a bit healthier. I have been reading up at least, but just had no energy to stay up and post after that.

Oh, and I think I mentioned we got sick from a kid who came to Madison's birthday party after getting sent home from school 2 days earlier and being out sick the entire next week? Well she was sick again and in school this week and sent home early from the after school watercolors class she's in with Madison. So I'm just hoping we don't come down with something else. It wouldn't be so bad if she and Madison weren't such good friends, but it's like we always get her germs cause they're in constant contact.

Our contractor is acutally here and working today and my kids are asking me to take them upstairs to look at their new bedroom.

So- new dilemma here in Massachusetts. My younger daughter has been invited to go on a Leadership Training Trip with her Jr. ROTC group - guess what week.... the same week as the cruise!!! (It's school vacation week here). She is torn , but really does want to go on the trip, not the cruise (can you believe that one???). She said she's already been on a lot of cruises, including the Western, and hasn't gone on an ROTC trip. All she asks is that we buy her a new Castaway Cay sweatshirt because hers is too small! :)

At first we told her "No way, you're coming with us" but now we're wondering what to do. My husband doesn't want her on a Marine base doing all kinds of physical activities with us out of the country. He's concerned that she may get hurt and we'd not be able to get to her. Our sons (aged 21 and 24 ) are not going on the cruise and will be home, but one is in college and one is grown and working and doesn't live with us any more. And even so, she'd be in North Carolina with the group, pretty far from home. Any thoughts or suggestions ???
:confused3

How old is she? I think my decision would be based on her age. 16yo and up I think I'd let her go. Under that, probably not, but it would depend a bit on her maturity level.

Would she be a grump on the cruise if you forced her to go? I know that sounds insane, but I can totally see one of my teenage cousins acting pouty all week over something like that. I know it's not best to do what she wants, but who wants a pouty teen ruining your cruise?

She's 15, a freshman in high school. I think she's very excited to be asked on the trip because if you go you are in line for a "leadership" poition for next year. I know she would like to be in the colorguard so maybe that's what she's hoping for.

As far as would she be a "grump" on the cruise. The answer is......maybe. She can really fuss a lot. I think once she got there she'd meet the kids she's been talking to online and also make other friends and be fine but who knows.... Only she could be miserable on a cruise!

Isn't it amazing how teens can just make themselves miserable anywhere? I remember many a mood like that myself. When I was 17 my father died, in November, and we had a family trip planned to the Turks and Caicos for Christmas. Well my mom decided we should still go and try to enjoy ourselves, as being home for Christmas might prove to be harder. I didn't want to go very much at all and I was in a bad mood most of the trip, and did my best to make my mom the same way. :thumbsup2  I remember pouting over where we ate dinner Christmas Eve (the hotel had I think 2 restaurants and that was pretty much it for the island, so not like we had a huge selection) to the point that I only remember sitting in the room, not speaking to my mom. I dont' even remember if we ate or where. Ugh, terrible trip.

Looking back, she probably should have left me home to be miserable alone.

I was just wondering how many of us are getting passports specifically for this cruise. We were going to get them, but we dont plan on going out of the country again within the next 5 years. While Im sure this is going to a WONDERFUL, MAGICAL cruise with you guys, it will most likely be our last. We are Disney World people, and just joined the DVC. In fact thats why were going on this cruise. We received bonus points for joining, and decided to use all of them and this year and next years points to take the cruise. We have already planned out our next 5 vacations and they will all be to the World. Now, I have been assured by no less than 7 cms at DCL and DVC that we will not need passports, but I just want to hear some other people say they arent getting them either. I guess Im just paranoid. :scared:

Thanx, Dave

Hi Dave

We're (five of us) aren't getting passports either. I was assured by a couple Disney cruise reps, as well as the State, that it was okay to just use birth certs. and pic. ID for adults and birth certs. for the kids.
Do I remember correctly that you're a special ed teacher?

Gail

I'm glad to hear we won't be the only ones potentially on the dock waving goodbye to the ship :sad2:

And no, I'm not a teacher although there are several here participating in this thread.

Dave

Got a couple more magnets done for the cruise. Hope I'm not boring you guys with these but they really are fun to do. Y'all share some of yours too? I'd love to see them.

Denise,

Thank you for sending me those pictures! The ones you just posted are cool too! I've been soooo busy lately, I haven't even started that stuff yet! I'm curious to know, how much do you have to spend on the FE gifts? What type of gifts are you getting and how many are doing this at this point? I know there wasn't too many participating in it.
Thanks Again! Colleen

Thanks!

I don't think you have to spend any particular amount on FE gifts. I'm planning to order them from Oriental Trading Co. later on this afternoon and I figure I'll spend somewhere in the $25-30 range. But I have to check the spreadsheet again to find out how many are participating. I'll order a bit extra in case anyone else joins the thread but I figure if people haven't told Joan yet that they're participating in the FE then they probably aren't. And if they are, they should have told her sooner and this would be sort of "cruise evolution".

(reminder: I am not a nice person :cool1: :rotfl: :rotfl2: )

The stuff I found on Oriental is just little stuff like you would put in a kid's goodie bag at a party. I figure even for the adults, we can have fun with this stuff too.

Hope that helps a bit.
