April 18, 2010 - 4 night Wonder

Hey Ed--we might be joining you on the 4/17/11 sailing afterall. I just switched our 8/16/11 cruise to the 4/17/11 sailing. Went up to a 9B cabin and still saved nearly $500.00 over the price of the 5 day sailing in August that was in a Cat 10A.

That's GREAT!!! It's always nice to save some money! $500 will buy a lot of drinks of the day! :drinking1

As of today, 150 days until we set sail!!! :thumbsup2

One more payment and our cruise will be paid-in-full!!! :goodvibes

Well...... now it is 149 days! I am not looking forward to our PIF date. The final payment for the Walt suite is going to be a killer!

Oh well..... at least I only have 4 more days until we board the Wonder for Thanksgiving. Perhaps next Friday we will get to experience the "battle of the horns" between the Wonder and the Magic at Castaway Cay. :woohoo:

That would be WONDERful and MAGICal!!! :cool1:

We're headed to the airport in an hour or so. If I find anything interesting on the Wonder this week, I'll be sure to post about it when I get back next week.

If you haven't been following the thread below, it is interesting reading and something to think about.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I hadn't seen that thread. We didn't plan to get off in Nassau, we didn't for our last cruise either and the ship was so nice and empty, I think it might not be quite as empty this time!

My DW was in a little bit of a fender bender yesterday. A box truck backed into our car as she was on her way to pick our DD up from massage therapy school. Looks like we will be going shopping for another car once we hear from our insurance company. My DW did receive a few minor injuries and she lost one of her hearing aids, but other than that she is doing OK.

Oh my goodness, thats awful! I'm glad she's doing okay. Your car on the other hand wow, it's pretty crunched up! I hope you are able to buy her something nice to replace it!

My DW and I went car shopping yesterday and she found a car she liked, an hour later we were driving away from the car dealership with a 2008 Chevy Aveo(photo below).

Thanks goodness, the lost hearing aid also showed up the other day!!!

Wow..... that car was really crunched!! I'm glad to hear that Hazel is ok. The new car looks pretty nice.

How was your cruise Ed? I knew another couple from MA that was on your cruise. They booked the cruise just a couple of weeks before the sailing.

We had a WONDERFUL cruise, at least after we got away from Florida where it was chilly and raining. Out of 8 DCL cruises, that was the first time we've had the sailaway party in the atrium.

We did things a little differently this time (by design). Instead of going to one of the buffets for embarkation lunch, we went to Goofy's Galley and Pluto's..... only did the lunch buffet one time..... ate dinner every night in the dining rooms, instead of going to Palo, at least once..... skipped Palo brunch..... didn't do any excursions in Nassau (after our Segway tour was canceled because of the robbery a week ago)..... pretty much just hung out on the family beach at CC while DS spent about 3 hours snorkeling..... only went to one show (Toy Story). In general, we took it easy and really relaxed this time.

We had a great server team (Herbert from the Philippines and Zoe from Australia). Zoe has only been on the ship for a year and met her new husband on board (he's also a server). She has a great personality and was one of the best assistant servers we've ever had. Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic and better than anything we would have fixed at home (they even had lava cake and ice cream for dessert!).

We went up to the new Outlook Cafe right after we boarded to look around. It is a nice area, but will be pretty much useless during the day on most of the Alaska cruises. There is about 10 feet of open deck space just outside the windows on both sides, which (from experience on another Alaskan cruise) will be wall-to-wall people trying to see the passing scenery, so you won't be able to see much/anything from inside the Cafe.

The best part of the cruise was sailing side by side with the Magic for about 30 minutes on Friday, and hearing them do a battle of the horns. Having been on the Magic for 4 cruises, it was really neat to see her sailing so close.

The Gold/Platinum Castaway reception was nice, but Captain Henry didn't let anything new out of the bag. He did say that he had seen pictures of the Dream the day before, and it is starting to look like a ship.

Our DS has this fixation about wanting to be a Platinum CC member by the time we go on the Dream, so that was as good an excuse as any to book another 4 night for next August (that will be #10)! :rolleyes1

All in all, it was a great cruise and we can't wait to go back in April. If anyone has any questions - ask away.

Ugh....... we woke up to about 3 - 4 inches of wet snow this morning!! It looks pretty covering the trees, but after being in 80+ degree weather only a week ago, I am not a happy camper!

I already sent DS out to shovel the front walk, so it doesn't freeze up and turn to a sheet of ice. He's happy about the snow, because the ski areas are making snow and are now hoping to open up within a week or so.

April can't get here soon enough for me!!

Our DD Angelina and her boyfriend Bryan got engaged last evening on the beach (in the snow & rain) in Atlantic City, NJ. This pic was taken moments after Bryan proposed to Angelina. It was taken by Angelina's friend Trish with her cell phone. Trish is going to be Angelina's Maid of Honor. A possible May 2011 wedding could be in the works.

Bryan totally surprised Angelina as Angelina thought Bryan was still on his way home from Oklahoma not knowing that Bryan arrived home two days earlier so that he could pick the ring up from the jewelry store and pull off the surprise. Angelina did say "YES" by the way, LOL!!!

Congratulations to the happy couple (and to you and Hazel too)!!

The list of things we have to celebrate on the cruise is getting longer!

A pic of the snow outside our back door earlier tonight. We are now at 22" and it is still snowing.

Hi Andy,

I wondered how you made out in this storm. It is still snowing here, but we only have about 6 fluffy inches so far (other parts of the area got a LOT more). It's supposed to end early this afternoon. I hope what you got is the light, fluffy kind of snow. The heavy, wet kind is "heart attack" snow.

Be careful shoveling it and stay safe everyone.
