April 17, 2011 on the Dream

I wish :sad1:. Now adding a fever into the mix. Really hope this is a 24 hour thing. Kid's already crying and afraid he can't go on the cruise :sad1:. Seriously, this is just NOT the time......

Oh no :sad2: Sending healthy thoughts your way. pixiedust:

Actually, this is the time... better to have it now with a week's cushion to recover than next Sunday morning! It's always my worst nightmare that one of us wakes up on the morning of the cruise feeling and looking sick enough for DCL to deny boarding. :scared: Hopefully, it's just a 24-hour bug  and Jacob will be feeling much better tomorrow. ALL your DIS Friends are sending well wishes :grouphug:, prayers:flower3:, and Pixie Dust pixiedust: to Jacob for a super speedy recovery!!!! And all the same to you , too, for all the stress this is putting you through right now. :guilty: Hang in there! Sunny days :sunny: are most definitely ahead! :)

Waving to NJ Disers :wave2:

We're all excited for you that you are already "on vacation"!!! :goodvibes Won't be too much longer for the rest of us. Have a very safe drive to FL! Please continue to keep us posted on your progress! :thumbsup2

If you have time on Thursday, would you please give us a first-hand report of the crowds and boarding situation at the port?

DH's and my boarding tradition whenever DD and DS aren't sailing with us is to call them from the embarkation luncheon to tease about how we are living the life of luxury while they are stuck at work. ;) (Don't worry, we're not terribly meant parents - this is done in jest and believe me, they do the same to us whenever they are having a fabulous time somewhere that we can't be, too.) We're looking forward to hearing that you are onboard the ship on Thursday, knowing that we all get to join you just a few days later! :yay: You'll tease us on Thursday, DH and I will tease DD and DS on Sunday, then DD, her fiance, and DS will join us the following Thursday! :woohoo: Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH is out getting a haircut and I am determined to get our packing done today. Doing laundry now. :laundy: Still need to come up with something for DD to give out for adult FE gifts on the 4/21 cruise. Gotta clean the house today, too. It looks like a tornado came through because we spent Friday night into dawn trying to chose, copy, and download photos for the wedding reception video. Albums and boxes of photos are strewn all over the house!!! :upsidedow We were gone all day yesterday to attend the fiance's family's bridal shower two hours away (which is when we had to turn over the photos). Have to work all week, even though my heart is not in it anymore. Counting down the days until we leave!!!!!!!! Can't wait to meet everyone!!! Warning: Deb T. is a hugger!!! :grouphug:

Getting warmer, what a change from 42 to 73 degrees :woohoo:
KarenfromVA and others :wave2:
Deb - would you like me to CALL you and tease you :lmao:
I just learned a new tip for those who drive: north of SC around Ringeland- they have speed monitoring cameras, and surprise drivers with tickets by mail:scared1: here is this post:

We are so happy the first of us are on the way! We start the I-95 trek on Thursday afternoon. Let us know if/where you find any good gas prices (as "good" as they get these days) along the way!! Thanks for blazing that trail for us!

pixiedust: Get well soon, Jacob!!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes for Jacob :goodvibes. With motrin the fever goes down but then spikes back up around 4 hours later. Deb, I know you're right that now is the time so he can get over it. You know it's funny because this trip was our 'consolation prize'. We were originally booked on Oasis of the Seas that left yesterday with my parents and my sister. We had to cancel because Jacob's school had the 3rd week of April off rather than the second week which is what it's been for the past 6 years. So if we were on that cruise, poor kid would be stuck sick in our cabin. On the other hand, we switched to the Dream so Jacob wouldn't miss 6 days of school (only 1 for this trip) bit it looks like he may miss a day or 2 anyway.

Laundry done and clothes sorted. Oops I had to go and buy a different pair of shoes today :scared1:. My black sneakers don't go with anything LOL. Now I just have to finish ironing and pack. 4 more sleeps!!!!!!

ETA: We got a call from Mickey Mouse himself tonight!!!!! I forgot I ordered the character call and I thought I did it for Wednesday night. That sure put a smile on DS face -- it was magical.

Helped my DH a little driving through NC :wave2:
Had a nice picnic at welcome center rest area in SC :wave2:
145 miles to go to GA where we stop for a night.
DD has finally finished given by her teacher English and math SW and HW ( she is missing 5 days), and we are done helping her/checking it, so our vacation finally started for real :yay:

So far we stopped for gas twice. We have to put premium grade for my car. First, at the end of NJ Turnpike = $3.77 ; second, exit 173 in NC = $ 4.05. honestly, our second stop was guided by a great need of a good cup of coffee and we were looking for Starbucks ( right off the exit, left at the traffic light, drive passing Walmart, Starbucks is on the left)

BTW, that is the first time were we able to take my car (I should probably say SUV, RX 350) for our trip to FL without rooftop and leaving some view via rear window :lmao: Even our DS was surprised last night :lmao:. But he said it correctly, it is only because he was not joining us :sad2: and we were able to put lots of bags on the passenger seat.

If anyone has any questions, let me know:grouphug:

We usually don't buy gas in NC since it's usually the most expensive. We'll hit gas in VA around exit 45 or so and then again in SC around exit 175 or so. Then we don't need to stop again until GA exit 3 - sometimes we stop at exit 1 but usually it's 3. Now I'm guessing on VA and SC but it's within 10 miles of those mile markers for both states.

Major crisis averted!!! I've tried to be so organized for this trip. I have a folder with all our confirmations in order of date needed. The only one I didn't have was the 3 tickets we used points for since I had to go through DH's points. When I had him pull it up tonight we found out his tickets (him and 2 of the kids) are booked for Thursday while myself and youngest DS are for Friday. What the *#&#%%#&???? Friday was booked so we had to pay an additional $700 to switch the 2 tickets to Thursday. So for now we are scheduled to stay 2 nights at the Hyatt MCO, what are we going to do at the airport for 2 days????

I guess I should be grateful we figured this out now instead of when we were all at the airport on Friday!!!!

Have you thought about renting a car and getting a room near the port to be at the beach for 2 nights? I'd rather be there than the airport for 2 nights.

Our original plan was to fly in late Friday, stay at the airport and then spend the day at the Dolphin, swim, walk the Boardwalk and then head to the Port Sunday am. The Dolphin is booked Friday night so we are trying to bridge the gap that we now have. We were really looking forward to our day/night on the Boardwalk and not sure we want to give that up to stay near the Port. What hotel would you recommend????

Boy , gas is cheap down South. Premium gas in CT, not so much! I had to pay $78 to fill my suv the other day! :scared1:

I checked the tween board and they were talking about meeting outside the edge at 3 and to wear lime green shirts to recognize each other. You may want to tell your kids that we are all meeting at 2:00 and then maybe we can get some of the dads who are not going on our cabin crawl to walk them all over to the edge at 3:00 TOGETHER!!! How cool would that be!?

I read on another thread that the sooner they get in there and do some of the ice breakers, the more likely they will be to really enjoy it.

deb, can you put us down for the "my DD will go with the other Tweens to the edge at 3:00 with a DH" list?
