April 17, 2011 on the Dream

Wow! Love the lists. I'm going to run in the 5K along with at least 2 of the kids in our party. I'd love to do the girls night out - if I can stay awake that late.

You are official! I just added you to those two lists on the previous page! :goodvibes

When you say "we are on facebook" do you mean this list or yourself. We are on Facebook too! Love to friend you guys :goodvibes

We actually have a Facebook page just for this cruise. :goodvibes Ness2289 set it up to be private and only members can view it. All you need to do is send her a private message with the email address associated with your facebook account and she will send you invitation to join. :thumbsup2

Thanks! By the way my DH is the king of "doesn't get it". Luckily he humors me most of the time.

Day off today. I organized some more. I don't need to buy anything except a nice pair of capri's for me and underwear for DS14. What is the conventional wisdom on packing for kids? Is two nice outfits (polo shirts/khaki's) ok for dinner (alternate every other night)? I really want to pack as light as possible.

I'm listening to the weather report on TV right now. I'm in Southern MA and they are saying a potential snow storm on Friday :scared1: Please let them be wrong!

Just added your DH to that list, too! :) Although I have to tell ya, he has some very stiff competition for the category of King of the Clueless! Just ask Alenushka!! :rotfl2:

As for packing for your kids, you'd be fine with what you mentioned above. :thumbsup2

Gosh, I sure hope you all don't end up with another snowstorm!!! What did we do to Mother Nature this year that has her so angry with all of us???? :confused3

I know what I want to do on Zazzle but dont know why I just don't sit down and do it! I am really going to run out of time here.

How was that? :lmao:

Also, did you see my post 2 pages ago on dining times confusion? Did anybody hear anything new? :confused3

I must have missed that post... I'll go find it now to see if I might know anything that will help......

P.S. DH just walked in screaming in confusion: "MORE SHOES????!!!" :eek:, yes, two clients cancelled today and I went shopping - finally found a comfortable pair of Merrells at half original price :banana: His theory of saving money "don't spend it at all!":confused3

Then he recovered and gave me a great news: he got tickets to US/IOA at COSCO's today :yay: !!!! Finally!!!! we got it!!!! those who live near NYC area - they them at Rego Park, Queens and Melville, Long Island. We were about to buy it from Bridget's link to mousesavers as travel did not justify savings, but then DH got called to the meeting in Queens, and we decided to try Cosco's there :thumbsup2 Thank you again to all who shared info on different ways to buy tickets. :grouphug:

yes, we have a meet at 2:30 and DebT will be posting about it again, I am sure. We are also on facebook so you can see us all prior to the cruise and be able to recognize us.

My daughter is super social! they will get along fabulously! You can't miss her also - she has platinum blond hair! Everyone always comments on seeing her!

I a don't have all the info, but our keeper of the keys, aka DebT, will be sure to get you the info on how to meet up with everyone!

Cant wait to cruise!!! And finally be warm!!!

Hi everyone! I have to give myself a good 1/2 hour to read everything that's been going on today but wanted to stop in to quickly say that the Meet is scheduled for 2:00, according to Deb T. and not 2:30. The cabin crawl is 2:30 instead. :)

OK, going to read all the banter....:surfweb:

OK, OK - I am starting right now. Talk to all later :hug:

P.S. thank you for a good laugh - I needed it badly today (today's first client's parent had a horrible panic -breakdown attack/suicidal statements and I am still shaken up by that :sad1:). I have to say, shopping is a great healer, but your posts made my day :flower3:

I was chatting on FB with my friend who is joining us on 4/14 sailing. Here is her response (with links to Dis- included) to my "announcement" of change of dining times :confused3

"dining times...
I looked online and confirmed via the phone, the dream dinner seating times are 6pm and 8:30, maybe some people were confused because only the dream and fantasy will have these times (the other Disney ships are 5:45 and 8:15) We are in Nassau until 7pm, but the waterpark at Atlantis closes at 6, plus we will need to be on board by 6:30 at the latest.

Okay... to the best of my knowledge... DCL is still "officially" stating that dining times will be 6pm and 8:30pm and there are three show times that are assigned seating only.

HOWEVER... recent Dream cruisers (as of the last 4-6 sailings) are reporting that the dining times have been changed to 5:45pm and 8:15pm on their sailings, with show times of 6:00pm and 8:30pm, and you are free to chose which show you want to go to. There has also been reports of an additional matinee showing of Disney's Believe.

The scuttlebutt is that DCL anticipated overflowing crowds for all their shows, but this just hasn't happened. Not sure why?? Anyhoo, in response to the smaller show audiences, they decided to go back to their regular show times (the ones in place on the Magic and Wonder) that flip-flop with their regular dining times.

This is just another good example of how Disney always retains the right to change anything, at anytime. So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they do for our cruise after we get our hands on our first Navigator! :yay:

:goodvibes For a good evening. I know how hard of a day that is...It always gets to me when it happens to my emotional middle school students. I have had to be there first hand for one that went as far as calling the crisis intervention team to our school and then to my office! The day ended ok but the student is now waiting for placement in a more restrictive environment then we can provide in the public school setting.
My assistant principal wasn't in today so I played acting assistant...every time this happens I am further reminded why I am not getting my Admin degree. I am very happy as a special educator/behavior specialist!

NOW GO PACK! :laughing:

I should take my own advice!! I need to start laying out outfits. I am worried about how much stuff I think I should bring vs. how much I really need. :confused: Good News - I called Country Inn & Suites and they said I could ship a package to myself there and they would hold at front desk. She said people do it all the time. So I may go that route for the FE gifts.
Also - I spoke with my DMIL today - she wanted to send Connor money to celebrate all his latest accomplishments - qualifying for Nationals, straight A's, going on the trip, etc... So I said...why not get him a Universal Gift card?! She went for it...Yay!! :banana: I figured if she is going to send him money might as well have it in the form of a gift card so he can use it for that Harry Potter wand I just know he is going to have to get!!
How is this for a countdown...two weeks from today is my last day at work because two weeks from tomorrow I will be at a Department Chair meeting and then two weeks from Thursday we hit the road jack... :dance3: I am counting down everything at this point!! :rolleyes1
Must go make dinner! popcorn::

I am packing for 10 days for this trip...After thinking and thinking I decided to google!

I found this article on the web after "googling" - packing for a 10 day trip. Thought is was interesting.

This is what she packs for a 10 day trip:
* Three pairs of shorts
* Three pairs of dress pants
* One skirt
* Three pairs of casual pants or jeans
* Three nightgowns/ night clothes
* Three bathing suits
* One sarong/ cover up
* Three lightweight sweaters
* Four dresses
* 10 casual shirts
* Six dress shirts
* A clutch
* Toiletries
* Two pairs of shoes

She'll wear the third pair of shoes, as well as jeans and a longer sweater.

She manages to pack all of this in a carry on suitcase! How...

* Roll up all of your clothing tightly and set it aside
* Shoes should be packed around the sides
* Softer clothing that is rolled up, goes on top
* Harder clothing rolled up, is stacked on the bottom
* Toiletries on top
* Anything that is wrinkle-resistant can go around the edges

I realized it doesn't mention underwear and socks, hmmm...
Anyway don't know if it is helpful, but I am going to take a look in my closet. I will substitute capris for jeans or dress pants. I also don't think I will bring four dresses - ok there is my room for underwear!
Deb T. your the packing queen - does this list make sense???

Debbie

Actually, it seems like an awful lot to me. I honestly don't think there's any way you can get all of that into one carry-on suitcase!

So, here's what I do...
I plan out each day according to what will be going on that day, and then pack accordingly. I try to keep within the same color family to cut down on extra shoes (hear that, Yelena??? :lmao:) It's easier if you've been on a similar trip and can visualize what you'll be doing each day.

So, for theme park days of a trip, all I need is 1 lightweight shirt and 1 pair of shorts per day, plus a light jacket that I'll wear the duration of the trip as needed.

For the cruise part of the trip, each day I'll be wearing a bathing suit (packing one, maybe 2 since we're doing a B2B) and rinsing/washing it out in the bathroom sink every night. Each day, I'll also need a lightweight shirt. I can get by with wearing shorts two days each since I won't be wearing them all day. At dinner time, I'll stick with one pair of black slacks that I'll wear each night. At least twice, I'll probably wear the same shirt during the day and also to dinner. Only need one pair of black dress shoes (packed) and one pair of tennis shoes that I'll wear when embarking. Throw in some undies, and I'm all set. ;)

Our trip will be 9 days if you count both travel days. So, I'll be packing:
* 4 pairs of shorts (plus wearing one)
* 2 pairs of dress pants (because we'll be onboard 7 nights total)
* no skirts
* 1 pair of jeans
* 3 pjs
* 1 bathing suit (maybe 2)
* 1 cover up
* 1 lightweight jacket and 2 Disney sweatshirts (I get chilly after sunset.)
* no dresses
* 8 casual shirts (plus wearing one)
* 5 dress shirts
* no clutch or handbag
* Toiletries
* 1 pair of dress shoes (wearing tennis shoes)

Once I have everything packed, if there is room, I'll throw in a couple of extra shorts, casual shirts, and pjs. Otherwise, I'll just make do with what I have. I can always do a load of laundry if needed, or a quick wash of something in the bathroom sink.

I've never been a fan of the "roll up your clothes" packing method. I've tried it twice and my stuff always comes out a wrinkled mess. Instead, I lay each piece of clothing in the suitcase one at a time, and spread it all the way to each edge of the suitcase before folding over, so that each item is as flat and wrinkle-free as possible. Undies go at the bottom of the suitcase in the nooks and crannies of hardware grooves so that by the time I start layering my clothing, everything will be flat.

I'll pack the shoes, toiletries, FE gifts, and miscellaneous items in a carry-on duffel bag. DH will choose all his clothing, but I will do his packing exactly like I do mine. So, we'll travel with a total of 2 roll-aboard suitcases and 2 duffel bags. :thumbsup2

Ooooh my packing is going just about like Deb's. I always find I bring wayyyy too much. So far I have:

2 or 3 pairs capris (I like these better than dress pants)
1 dress (for Palo and dress up night) and wrap
3 maybe 4 shorts
2 dressy shirts
6 t shirts/tanks
1 pair jeans
jacket/sweater
pj's
socks/undies
crossbody bag
bathing suit/cover up/flip flops
1 pair dressy black shoes
sneakers
casual sandals

If I throw in a load of laundry after Universal, I can cut this list down :goodvibes. Most of this I already have. I've been doing well with weight loss though and want to buy a new (smaller ;)) pair of jeans and have to get a few more shirts.

I KNOW! We are from Northbridge (south of Worcester) I am so sick of the snow!!!

I just saw the news & it's another one of those "We could either get a foot of snow or nothing....depends on the track".....if I had a dime for every time I heard that this winter! :lmao:

Bumperlove- we are from Auburn!
