April 17, 2011 on the Dream

If you don't decide to go on the April 17th cruise, we will miss the opportunity to meet you and your girls. This will be our loss. :sad2:

Whatever cruise you decide to take your girls on, may you have a wonderful time. :thumbsup2

P. S. If you don't go on April 17th, I guess we won't be making requests for Barry Manilow at the piano bar. ;)

Aaahhh.... you are too sweet. I am really bummed about not meeting you all. I still haven't cancelled it. I still have a twinge of doubt about this whole camp thing. Being gone 8 days on a disney cruise, get back on sunday then leave Monday about 9am for 52 hours at camp :scared1: Gotta be crazy!! Then my daughter tugs on her mothers heart and I say... well... ok, maybe. You all could add the 3 night before hand and Back to Back with us!!!!! :grouphug:

Nice try, you never know if anyone will take you up on the invite. But  you could 'sweeten' it a bit and say you will pay for all of us to go on that one with you. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rolleyes1 :dance3:
A girl's gotta try..... :flower3:

I'm up for being snuck in a cabin.

I still have the Easter Sunday cruise booked, just waiting to move that ressie to 2012 when those dates are released so I can keep my OBB benefits. :rolleyes1 :surfweb:

I'm up for being snuck in a cabin also!

But Jilljill, how can you THINK of another cruise, sneaking or otherwise, with the pile you have scheduled? My goodness, your suitcase is perpetually packed. (Yes, so jealous!)

On another note, I was looking at the lounges on the Dream thinking that I would end the night having a nightcap in each one. This is one of the 'new' things I want to do on this cruise that I haven't done before. I've been to karaoke on the podcast cruise but that was the only time I explored the night time lounge area.

I usually am wiped after a day of fun and sun but this time....I wanna stay up this time at least for awhile!

So I was looking at the Dream's bar/lounges and thought-wow-I have to pick and choose cause there are soooo many:

687, a contemporary sports bar located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area on the Disney Dream, is a sophisticated yet friendly venue where families can partake in activities and games during the day, and adults can unwind with a cocktail at night.

Bon Voyage
, a relaxing bar located on Deck 3, Midship aboard the Disney Dream, is a cozy space where families can enjoy a refreshing beverage or snack throughout the day.

Cove Café, an adults-only lounge located on Deck 11, Forward aboard the Disney Dream, is a cheery hangout where adults can enjoy a cocktail, gourmet coffee or snack while perusing a magazine, watching television or surfing the Internet.

Currents, a cozy bar located on Deck 13, Forward on the Disney Dream, is a breezy spot with a commanding view where Guests can relax and unwind while sipping a cool cocktail.

District Lounge, a lively bar located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area aboard the Disney Dream, is an intimate nighttime spot with an attractive modern design. During the day, Guests of all ages can enjoy a variety of refreshing beverages; while at night, adults are invited to mingle over mixed drinks.

Evolution, a dance club located on Deck 4, Aft in The District section on the Disney Dream, is a butterfly-themed hotspot celebrating all styles of music. During the day, Guests of all ages can partake in a number of fun-filled games and activities; while at night, adults are invited to dance, enjoy a mixed drink or sing karaoke.

Meridian, an adults-only bar located on Deck 12, Aft between Palo and Remy aboard the Disney Dream, is an intimate nighttime spot inspired by the early days of sea travel, where Guests can enjoy a pre- or post-dinner cocktail amid an indoor ocean view setting or breezy outdoor deck.

Pink, an adults-only bar located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area on the Disney Dream, is an elegant nightspot designed to look like the inside of a Champagne bottle, where adults can savor a cocktail and relax.

Skyline, an adults-only cocktail lounge located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area on the Disney Dream, is a cosmopolitan sky bar boasting sweeping—and magically transforming—views of some of the world's most famous cities, where adults can savor a selection of the world's finest beverages.

Vista Café, a café/bar located on Deck 4, Midship aboard the Disney Dream, is a cheery onboard destination for Guests looking to enjoy coffee and a pastry in the morning and a pre- or post-dinner cocktail at night.

Waves, a breezy bar located on Deck 12, Aft aboard the Disney Dream, is a scenic spot overlooking Mickey's Pool where Guests of all ages can relax with a refreshing beverage.

However, in looking at the list, Cove Cafe and Waves can be enjoyed during the day. :coffee: Is Currents a concierge bar? I'm wondering 'cause it's on Deck 13. If not, that can be done during the day also.

I can probably visit Vista Cafe during the day also. Those are pool area bars and coffee places.

That still leaves 7 on a 4 day cruise with 3 nights.....anyone wanna go bar hopping with me? :drinking1 Not really to drink, just to soak in ambience.

I'm thinking a couple more of these areas are maybe right next to restaurants, like Meridian is, and are there just for a pre-dinner gathering area.

687 is the sports bar so that maybe more packed than others and Evolution is the dance bar which would be tough for me as a single mom but how romantic for a husband to take his wife dancing as there are no excuses-the babysitter is free until 1 AM with a PJ party no less. I may go in and take a peek.

Bon Voyage may not be open during the night as it says during the day.

And that leaves 3 District Lounge, Pink, and Skyline- one for each night perfect. And in that order that's where I'll be 10:30 to 11:00PM each night.

You'd think they could put pool tables and dart boards in at least one of these areas. That would say 'fun' to me! I'm a classy kinda gal, I guess. :lmao:

And yeah, I'm focusing on the minutia today, I know. :rolleyes1 Nothing much else to focus on until more info about the Dream starts rolling in. :yay:

OK Pershing - you got me freaked out :scared1:and confused :confused3all at the same time which is really pretty easy to do with me....

I'm thinking our 4/17 cruise is 4 nights, so I just either gave you one extra night :wizard: or i'm going to have to tell my family I made a BIG mistake  or, did you mistakenly type that?

No, it's me! :rotfl:

Let's see. We board on the 17th, 1 night, 18th Bahamas, 2 night, 1 day at sea 3 night and Castaway Cay, 4 night. Geez!

Well....I always put off packing but if I manage to get it done early I bet I'm gonna want to go back to Pink. :wizard:

Sorry about the mind cramp svcutler. It's been a long work day.

I'm always up for traveling, be it a cruise or something else. I'm thinking about the PC cruise since they just released FL res. rates, but can't think of anyone that I could take with me. DH doesn't have the vacation time and DD will be in school and can't miss that much time.
I need to change my tickers and get rid of this year's and add my Sept. 2011 cruise.
I don't have room to put down the week at T'giving and week at Christmas on there too. Having the house down there makes it so much easier and cheaper.
I grew up in a house where my dad traveled for business and was gone around 220-250 days a year, so traveling really is in my blood. Since my parents' unexpected deaths in 2006, I've vowed to not put off doing anything because you never know what will happen. Hence the house in FL and all the cruises and other travels.

BTW....I was also freaked out by the mention of 3 nights and not 4 for this cruise. But I'm thinking that the only real way to experience all the bars in the evening it so do a B2B2B cruise, starting with a 4 night - 11 nights, 11 bars sounds logical but I know it won't cut it in my house. lol

OK Pershing and Jill Jill - I knew I wasn't crazy.... well, that's not true. I KNOW I'm crazy :lmao: but I also have that number (4) etched in my mind forever because I'm looking forward to it so much!

Jill, Sorry to hear about your parents. I love your positive outlook on life though :thumbsup2 and I only have one thing to say: Bon Voyage!! Enjoy life as much as you can and happy trails I say :flower3:

I know I'm taking our topic off in another direction, so if anyone wants to respond to me, they can send me a private message, I don't mind, but I need a little help.

We were thinking of taking my mom on a 4 day cruise out of NYC (we are in CT/NY) on the Carnival Glory. I'm very concerned about going on Carnival in general. We've gone on Carnival when we were in our 20's and found it to be a party boat. :dance3: Now we're in our 40/50/70's, and want something a little more sophisticated but not where we have to put our pinkys in the air to drink our tea. :snooty:

Has anyone had experience with this cruise? (I've gone on ther other boards for Carnival, but I trust you guys! :goodvibes

Thanks for any feedback!

Sandy

Thanks for all the info on those lounges and such. Hoping Matti will go to the kids clubs for even a little bit and maybe I can at least lul thru a few of the lounges. Can you all imagine our real obsession after the Dream sets sail in Jan??? We will be glued to every cruise report out there.

Sandy,
DD and I did a Carnival cruise out of NYC June 2008. We were on the Victory and went up to Canada, I think it was a 4 or 5 day cruise. It definately wasn't a 'party cruise', lots of families. We enjoyed the food, but she found it boring in the teen club. Fortunately I had 'met' a few families on cruisecritic and she hung out with a couple of the kids in her range and had fun. Since it was around 100 degrees the day we left NYC I did buy her a soda card and I think she got her money's worth before we left port - they are cheaper for those under 17. They had lemonade, tea and coffee out for free all the time and those were also included at dinner, she used her soda card for a soda with dinner. They also have cappuccino/espresso in the main dining rooms at no extra charge :woohoo: .
On sea days they have tea in one of the large lounges and there's no extra charge for it - it was much better than the tea I went to at Palo in 2005. The servers wheeled around carts with many types of tea, pastries and little sandwiches. They even had someone playing the piano and you didn't have to dress up for it, I went in my bathing suit/cover up.
I think I only went to a couple of the adult activities since they tend to lump them all together and then there's hours with nothing to do. But I did spend some time in the casino, I allotted myself so much for each day and when it was gone I was done there.
DD started eating sushi on that cruise, since they have a sushi bar or other snacks before dinner every evening.
We thought the food was very good, decor was tacky, dining room servers were good, room host was good. Overall staff was just so-so.

We also did a Baltics cruise July 2008 on Carnival Splendor and found the food to be really good once again. Service in the dining on that cruise was so-so, had a fabulous cabin host (wanted to bring him home), rest of the staff was a mix of good and so-so. We were on the ships 2nd sailing, the first one was just a 3 day shake down cruise, so it was technically the innaugural cruise. There were a few problems, which we expected and overlooked some of them. Again, adult and teen activites were very limited and we spent a lot of time in the therapy pool in the spa - something that is unique to that ship.
The decor was really tacky, we got sick of looking at pink circles everywhere. :headache:

All in all I would do another cruise with them, but they aren't my first choice and I'd stick to sailing on them on a big ship and within driving distance of DE.

Hope that helps a bit.
Barb

OK Guys, I promise we can get back to the all important DISNEY CRUISE CHAT in a moment :offtopic: but I just have to thank Jill for her information. :worship:

Thanks Jill! ::thanks:We live an hour from the City so it's too easy not to pass up. Not to mention that's it pretty inexpensive. If we had other options within the same price point/location, we'd jump on it, but unfortunatley this was slim pickings.

I think my mom and sister and I will be happy to get away without the rest of the family for a little bonding and I'm glad it's only 4 nights (because by then I'll be tired of the bonding and the only bonding I'll still want to do will be to bond them together with duct tape, shove them in the closet and get the heck outta there!)

Sandy

Hi Sandy,
our friends just went on this cruise in August and they were very disappointed. It was their first cruise (usually it is harder to disappoint people on their first cruise compare to experienced cruisers). They said they would not cruise again for a while. :sad2:I know another couple from Queens - they were disappointed too. I just wanted to let you know. On the other side, I have heard lots of positive feedback from people taking Princess or HAL cruises from NYC, and Royal C (they have 4 days cruises too) from NJ. Good luck in your decision!:wizard:

LOL, you're too funny. I PM'd you Sandy, then read jilljill's post which says much of what mine did. I agree with you on the closeness of NY and the price. We're really looking at the 5 night to Bermuda on RCCL. If you can go any time, RCCL fall pricing is great and Bermuda is beautiful. Unfortunately we have to sail in the summer/holidays when DS is on break from school.

Southwest in two days. :scared1:

That's got my focus also!

I've already told the DS's that the computer is off limits Tuesday morning and have downloaded DING onto my cell phone just in case.

Picture me poised at the computer drinking caffeine just like this guy.>:surfweb:

I really hope the prices on gonna be good!

Anyone from MA fly out of Hartford? Is it as easy with parking an stuff as Providence?

I'm just wondering if schools in Connecticut have that week off also. Did we cover that already?
