April 17, 2011 on the Dream

:yay: I'm glad there is some interest!! I'll get right on it. I have to be out most of the day, but you should see some invites before the day ends. If I can do them before I have to leave in 40 minutes, I will. I just don't think I'll have the time. I have created the group. All I need to do now is retrieve your email addresses from here. Looking forward to "seeing" you all soon!:goodvibes

Now that I think about it, I may be able to do this while I'm out. I'll take my laptop and get on when I have down time during the day.

We tried a FB group for our Baltics cruise and it didn't pan out. But then a lot of people weren't on FB when we first started the page.

I'll send you a PM with my FB name.

pm'd you too Ness.

Since my Budget code was a dud, I thought I would give an alamo contract id that worked well for me.

BJ's 7014696 garnered me a compact at $16.41 a day base for a 12 day total with taxes and everything of $276. That's renting from the airport. I thought maybe that was low 'cause I got it this April but yesterday I did it again and got the same price. Hope this one will help someone.

I usually go with Budget, but their prices seemed high in April.

PM'd you too Ness. Thanks!

On another note, I met with a real Disney fanatic today who knows everything about Disney. :worship: Anyway, he told me that for an extra $40, I should take the Disney transportation from the airport on Sunday morning (instead of my $40 one-way budget rental).

he said that they'll pick up my bags from my room at the Hyatt, tkae them onto the bus and we can start up to the port early Sunday morning. He said the shuttle was great, everyone's excited, movies, etc. and you don't have to schlepp your bags all over the place.

Thoughts?? for $40, it might be worth it....

If we were staying at the Hyatt, we would probably use the transfer too just for the convenience. I did read that the DCL buses from MCO get to the port pretty early. We're staying at Universal (no DME) and then driving to the port on Saturday so that's why were renting a car. My poor DH, he gets to drive AND schlepp .

ummm.. if paying an extra $40 for the convenience of not having to schlepp bags and pick-up, and drop-off a rental car and then take the shuttle from the rental car office to the port, (not to mention dropping off your lugguge at the port before returning the car or filling the car before returning it) seems like a wonderful addition to your vacation- go for it!

We've never taken Disney Transportation to the port, but the first time we sailed we used a town car. For me, an addition to my vacation is not having to wait for another Disney bus after a couple of days in the parks. Or follow someone else's schedule. We like getting there on our own time table. Stopping for breakfast first and maybe to the market for last minute items. That says relaxing to me.

Last time I pricelined a rental car for the whole trip. We got a SUV from Hertz for the price of an economy. My eldest DS loved parking at the port and just walking off the ship to the car. He's asked if we can do that again. I wasn't planning on spending that money, but I can see it would enhance his vacation experience so I will do it.

Hello, all! Everything is up and going and the invites have been sent.:)

ETA: When sent, most names popped up and said that you have been sent an invite. There were a couple of names that did not. Please let me know if you didn't receive your email. Also, be sure it is the email address associated with your FB account.

But how many people do you have in your party? DCL transfers are $35/person.
I think the buses start leaving MCO around 9:30 so that gets them to the port around 10:20-10:30.

ETA: I just did a bit of sleuthing and saw there are 4 people in your party. So I guess you have to decide if spending $140 for one-way transfers just so DCL will pick up your bags and take them to the port is better than spending $40 + approximately $8 in tolls and gas is worth it for you. Personally I'd take the bit of inconvience to save around $90.

I guess this person isn't really a Disney 'know it all' being they got the DCL transfer fare incorrect. ;)

Jilljill is right on target - DCL's transportation is $69 round trip per person, so $34.50 for one-way per person. Your total for the four of you going just to the port would be $138, plus a little extra if you tip the bus driver.

We've used DCL's transportation round-trip airport/port four times. The "movies" consist of one big long Disney commercial-type show (the same as what you see if you use ME), and then a couple of cartoons. The ride is short, 45-minutes tops. And, buses are assigned first-come, first-served, so there's no guarantee you'll be on the first bus. The first two times we used them, the first bus left around 9:30am, but the last two times the first bus didn't even start loading until 10:30.

When you get to the DCL counter at the airport, they actually do the entire cruise check-in process now, including all your Key to the World cards, your Boarding Number, and passing out lanyards for return cruisers. (You could still do the cruise check-in process at the airport if you decide to keep the rental car.)

Funny... we actually just canceled our DCL transportation yesterday because I was able to get great rates on rental cars (thanks, again, bdink!). We love the flexibility of getting to the port at the exact time we want. Don't worry about the bags, they are very easy to drop off once you reach the terminal. The whole terminal process if very straightforward and easy. :goodvibes

I think I would qualify as a "real Disney fanatic", too, so feel free to ask me anything! :) I love :lovestruc talking about anything Disney! And, I promise to always give accurate information. ;)

It's been a while since my last visit here, so I've had lots of catching up to do on this busy board! :surfweb:

It's amazing how much info everyone has to share. Thanks for all the tips! :thanks:

You're welcome. :thumbsup2 Good thing you didn't cancel your car rental and book the transfers with the sticker shock.

Is this your first disney cruise - than I would do the transportation especially since you are at the Hyatt....Completely convient and the bus really builds excitement....Plus you are only 4 people. If it is your second cruise - stick with the car rental.

Check your email now. I just sent yours and a couple others again and this time the names popped up. You should have access now. :goodvibes

Nothing as of yet in my inbox or SPAM folder. I'll check again in the morning and let you know.

Do you usually get emails from FB? I get them when I have a new message, when someone invites me to something, or sends me a game gift. (For everything, actually!) Some people don't like getting all the emails and change their settings. If this is the case, the invite is on your FB account in the same section where all of your requests are on the right side of your home page. (ie. friendship requests) Try looking there. It should tell you the number of group requests you have.

Fingers crossed...:surfweb:

I forgot I did change my email settings so that's why I haven't gotten it. But it wasn't on the request page either.
I just go in and change my email settings, so can you send it again please?
