April 17, 2004 -- anyone going with us?

Just wish I could get us all together for Palo brunch, but hey, if we can plan a sea day for the lunch - why not think SUNDAY - Noon - Lumieres?

They will seat us together as a group - as long as we ask nicely and let them know we want this.

I will need to look at an old navigator to make sure no activities are planned for this time (DVC group meetings - the one where they give out the free stuff!!!!! OR any of the other DCL activities that come during the sea day.

By the way, I just picked up a Spanish mustang mare (13 years old) - she's not broken to ride and was headed for the "kill pen". She's small and a bit shy, but I enjoy a challenge and have named her "Dulcinea" - shades of Don Quixote, I may be fighting windmills for a while, but I think she will be a good little horse with enough time and love (both I have in abundance).

Rae

Excellent.....Sunday at Lumiere's could be our "Plan B" if we absolutely can't get our Plan A Palo Brunch, based on no conflicting activities. At least we have an alternative plan. We can even bring the kids if they want to come and they could all meet each other as well.

Rae, Congrats on the new horse.....sounds like a challenge but you are so up for that.

Can you believe I actually have DH "interested" in looking into the possibility of rebooking a cruise while on the ship for next year! We've even discussed the "50th birthday cruise" possibility with Andy and Rae. I've got to look into all the possibilities but at least I've got an "interested DH". I'm psyched once again!

Excellent, sounds like Plan B, (Lumieres) is a good plan. Sunday should be okay. I admit that I wondered about the number of us for the brunch. When we cruised with Jan (old lurker) there were either 16 or 18 of us. They put us in the side room where I guess they put private parties. There wasn't room to move much. In fact it was extremely hot, all windows much Sun. They did finally open a side door so we had a small amount of ventilation. We were on the door side, backs to the windows. In order to get to the buffet, if I remember correctly, I had to wait until most of the others at the table were already there. The food did make up for it however.

Dulcinea sounds like a challenge and once she is ridable (sp) should be a really nice horse. My DH approves of the name. He loves the Man of La Mancha. Those are nice windmills. Good luck with her.
I finally mentioned the idea of a cruise next year to my DH. Carefully did it at the TAs' office. Wanted a back up in case of explosion. He didn't say much, just "we'll see." But that at least wasn't a flat NO.

Off to the marketing, before the place becomes a zoo. Talk to you all later. Estelle

So it sounds like it is lunch on Sunday at Luminere's ??

Sounds good to me, will give us newbies an opportunity to get acquainted with the ship and settled in a bit.

Is there a time - earlier/later????

This is getting so exciting! Yesterday morning woke up earlier than I wanted :( so i watched the Travel Channel DCL show again.

Til Later,
Janie

Good morning everyone!!!!!!

It's a fine morning here in Indiana, only because I know we will be leaving here in less than a month for our vacation. HURRAH!
Sad part is having to leave the horses!!!!

Dulcinea is starting to warm up to me...I was able to get her out of her stall and lead her in the indoor arena. I thought I would only have her for a few minutes, but by the time I realized it, she and I had been walking around together for almost 90 minutes!! Definitely like the little mare and hope that we can progress as the days, weeks go on.

Let Red run with the herd yesterday. I said my goodbyes to him and watched him race and buck in the air - he needs his freedom and a rider who will ride him "like the wind"! He'd be an excellent endurance race horse.

The other two (Tytefit and Captain Jack Sparrow) seem to be doing fine. I didn't do much with them yesterday except give them some time and treats.

OKAY, enough about my horses - sorry, I just get carried away!!! Hence the quote in my signature from Shakespeare!!!

CRUISE NEWS

***Official*****

We will be meeting on Sunday Noon for lunch at Lumieres. I will tell them that we will be having a large group - would be nice to get a head count but I think if I say "20" that might be safe. Better to prepare them than scare them!!!!

(This means Palo Brunch for the group is off). I concur with Estelle about the small party room. Have had two group brunches there and have not been comfortable with the heat and tight spaces- plus they close the shades so you can't see out.

Please check page 15 of this post to verify the information you have provided since that's what we will be going by for our cruise list of "who's who".

Hugs,
Rae

Okay 12 noon lunch on Sunday at Lumieres' sounds really great to me. Definately better tell them 20 or so. No need to scare them. we wouldn't want to have to serve ourselves. I don't pour water well under those conditions.
Have to take several of the items I plan to wear to a friends' tomorrow. She does all my seamstress things for me. Thank goodness I don't have to do them myself. I do needlepoint and cross stitch but straight sewing isn't my thing. I will be bringing my needlework with me, never travel without it, and am wondering if they'll have a problem with my scissors. Like I'm going to take over the ship with them. "Hi my name is Estelle and I am taking over the ship with my sewing scissors." Hi I'm the captain and no you're not." I reread our docs over the weekend and we still can't sue Disney unless the captain attacks us physically. Now that is really likely to happen. I really have to go and work on the ironing. The weather is beautiful today some where around 50. But the weather for tomorrow is supposed to be terrible. SNOW! What on Earth is that. DH says that it is coming because he spent yesterday prunning the trees in our front yard. Every time that he does that it snows. Like washing your car in the summer, then it rains.
Talk to you later. Estelle

Ok--I posted, atleast I thought I did, but it didn't show up. So, here I go again.

I will probably not attend the lunch, but may pop in to say hi. Knowing me, I'd say I'll go and then forget until 2 days later. LOL!

Estelle--I don't know if you are flying down or driving down, but the airlines won't let you take the scissors or knitting needles on the plane. My 2 cents would be to buy some down there and then either toss em or ship em back to yourself---whichever would cost you less. Also---you ready for some more snow. you may be spared. We are suppose to get 4" I think. I am considered "coastline" and that is suppose to help us. Some up north are going to get blasted----they are already dismissing early.

29 days and counting for us before we leave---a few more before the cruise. The only thing I hate about it all is I have to go swimsuit shopping. Tried yesterday and man was I depressed.

Estelle--another quick question---I think your in New York--right? We went to the Producers on Friday night. Liked it but not on the same level as Les Mis for me. Anyway, trying to get out of the city was crazy. Seemed like they blocked so many streets off just to create havoc. Nothing like 5 lanes of New York traffic trying to take a left into 2. We heard some bricks fell from a building, but they seemed to block off more than just a few blocks.

Deb

I will take care of the lunch at Lumieres part! Are you sure you don't want to take care of the water, Estelle?????

Yesterday it was lovely outside - took Michael riding. Today, SNOW!!! So you know he is standing right here saying, "School time Mom!", glad he's excited about it!

Hugs,
Rae

Lunch on Sunday - sounds good to us!! Count Tom and I in if anyone is doing a head count.

Estelle: The airlines will let you take scissors, they just have to be in your checked luggage. My sister recently flew and they let her have her knitting needles on the plane with her. She has some sort of documentation that said she could. I used to cross stitch and have done some needlepoint. Now my eyes aren't comfortable with it.

Later guys - be thinking of us, we're moving our office this week. It is amazing how much stuff one can collect over the span of about four years!!

Janie

I don't have to worry about the airlines, at least not in many years. We routinely drive to WDW and the cruise as well. DHs' parents lived in Sarasota for some years and we drove down to see them. Takes two days of not too bad driving. We usually go west from here and take 81 south. If the weather (we usually went in February) was bad we would take 95. Luckily in I think 10 years we only had to actually take 95 twice. So we are leaving on the 15th of April and arriving at the Rad on the afternoon of the 16th. The best thing about the drive is the anticipation. As we get further south we begin to look for things we have seen over the years.
Janie you have my condolences. I remember when my husband had to move his office. In his case he had to pack everything up like 2 weeks before the actual move because he was in Europe on business when the move actually happened. He complained about that and then complained again when he got home and the first thing he had to do was unpack all the boxes.

Actually Deb we're in Pa. we routinely take the bus to NYC. Much easier and we don't have to deal with all the traffic. This last time wasn't bad at all. But the time before that there was a horrible traffic jam coming into the city. Luckily we were leaving at that time. I mean they weren't moving about 3 miles beyond the Lincoln Tunnel and I'm sure the people in the tunnel weren't going anywhere because the traffic in the actual city wasn't moving either. We were very glad that we were going the other way.

Okay we are having snow. So far we have about 1/2 inch or slightly better. Supposed to be going to continue all day. Schools have had early dismissal and various other things have been cancelled. I think we are supposed to get 4 to 7 inches. South of us they are getting snow and then sleet, freezing rain and rain. Frankly I'll take the snow.

Talk to you all later. Estelle

Hi,
Is there room for another 4/17 family in your group.
This is our first DC, it's just myself, DD(6), and DH.
I can't wait.
It's snowing outside right now.
one more month!!!

amtmommy-- welcome to our wonderful thread. Always room for more. First the usual questions... Do you like shrimp? If so watch out for Rae and I we are avid shrimp people and will be lurking by the shrimp.
Also would you and your DH and DD like to join us for lunch at Lumieres' on Sunday at noon? We had originally planned to do the Palo's brunch but there are too many of us. Just let Rae know if you want to come. The nice thing is that the kids can join us if they want to.
This is only our second cruise and we have friends who are coming with us who are doing their first too. They have a DS who is 5.
It snowed here all day from about 8:30 this morning until about 5. Got probably 5 or so inches and then we got sleet and freezing rain. And all sorts of accidents. We had lated parents at both centers and strangely it wasn't the parents who are usually late. These were parents who usually get their kids early. Oh well stopped now. DH and DD (Elza) are outside with the snow blower cleaning the driveway and the two cars that didn't go out today. I promised myself 15 minutes on the treadmill tonight so I better go and get it done. Talk to you all later, Estelle

I just spoke w/our TA & she told me that there has been a mistake & we do not have connecting rooms after all. My mom is sharing a room w/my DD & my DH, DS and myself in the other room. On all invoices we had connecting rooms, now DM & DD are going to be across the ship & half way down the hall. If anyone has room 2112 & would be willing to exchange for room 2570, please let me know!! We are very disappointed! We sure could use some pixie dust now.

Hi Everyone! I haven't spent too much time on the boards lately, as March has been super busy. Looks like a lot has gone on here. Lunch on Sun. instead of brunch. Thats fine with me, although I'm bummed about Palo brunch, as it's my favorite & I'm traveling without DH. I think I'd feel funny going alone. If anyone would like to brunch with me on Monday, or Thursday, please let me know!

It's still snowing like crazy here, about 6 inches so far. In a month though we will be in sunny Fla. sleepless with excitement about the cruise the next day & it will be my DD's birthday. These thoughts of warmth & fun in the sun are helping me deal with this snow. I hear my plowguy now! Unlike Annmorin's, ours is great!

We are gearing up for a super big dance competition this weekend in New Haven, CT- 3 days- American Dance Awards. Taylor is doing a very difficult tap duet with her partner & they are hoping for a gold award/medal in their section. She is in 4 other numbers, but the duet is the big one- they have been working on it since August. We are staying in the heart of the Yale Campus, so we'll visit the gallery & the bookstore after the competition is done, so that should be fun. Wish her luck!! ( and me too- I'll be a nervous wreck- at least it's not horse jumping any more...)

Deb~ Was Matthew Broderick & Nathan Lane in your show, or did you have stand ins? Wow, everyone I know who has seen the show with them in it has raved like crazy about it. I tried to get tickets, but they sold out so quickly! We are going to see Lion King in two weeks. Can hardly wait! One of the hotels in the Time Sq. district had chunks of the buiilding fall down on Friday. The news reported a few people got killed from falling debris-construction workers that were working on the building. They will close many streets surrounding a problem like that, as it's so unpredictable.

M & C King- I am looking at a map of the ship. Rm. 2112 is Port side, toward the aft. 2570 is Starboard, midship. That's a big mistake... I would call your TA & rattle the cages, especially if you requested and were under the impression you had adjoining rooms. Did they give you room #s on your ressies? If so, I'd shake the apples from the trees on this one... Good luck!

Rae ~ if I recall, you can start riding tomorrow right!? I hope you have great weather for a ride- it's been a while for you...

Not to much longer now- we're at the 30 day mark... Looking forward to meeting all of you! Happy St. Patrick's Day! Just think, next month- everyone will be green with envy that we're on the ship!

~ Linda :boat:

Linda,

I want to wish your daughter a lot of luck in her competition. I hope you enjoy your weekend in New Haven. Don't forget to head over to Wooster Street for some pizza!

Hi amtmommy, haven't heard a lot from you, welcome back to the thread!

I seem to be one of the few who is enjoying the last snow of the season. My daughter has a 90 minute delay and today is half day - why bother going in? We'll probably get in our last sled runs with this snow!

Have a good day!

On every invoice from TA, starting 20 months ago, we had rooms 2110 & 2112. Then she calls yesterday & said, "Sorry, there's a mistake & you don't have connecting rooms. I'm talking w/Disney & this is the best we can do." Needless to say, we ARE NOT happy about this! I finally turned the phone over to my husband & he had a turn w/her. She is saying she will check back every day & see if something comes up. But the good news is that we didn't get the snow that a lot of you are getting.

Thanks for the welcome to the group.
Well, as far as shrimp go I do like them, but I am more of a scallop in bacon gal. So have at it!!

I am trying to do a little planning ahead, thanks for the invite on Sunday.
I am from Massachusettes, very near the Rhode Island border.
As I said our group is small, just myself, DD (6) and DH.
This sounds like it going to be alot of fun!!!

amtmommy----I also have a 6 year old---Jennifer. Hope they get to meet in the club. She loved the camp and is looking forward to spending every moment there---her words not mine. She wasn't old enough for the lab last time--but her older sister loved that part so I think she will too.

Linda--Yes they were. Nathan Lane actually made a flub. He was suppose to toss the cane in the air and catch it in the end number and ended up throwing it to the end of the stage. The look on his face and Matthew's was so funny---sort of like what the heck. I liked it but I didn't love it. I think it is personal with me. My son has what they call Sensory Integration Dysfunction (2.5 years old). My dh and I both kinda saw our son in Matthew's character when he is older. His character was slightly immature and walked a lot on his toes--the other stuff I won't say to not ruin the story. It just sort of struck a nerve but nothing that we didn't get over and enjoy the show and laughed a lot. One of those things that only someone dealing with SID would be bugged about. Also, never really reading the story, I wasn't thrilled with the choice of the Nazi story within the story. I get the concept of it being the worse play possible, just a little uncomfortable. Like I said--nothing I couldn't get over. Our friend's bought the tickets and went with us. They had to go to a broker and paid a lot of money. It was a thank you gift for assisting him in getting interviewed for a job he eventually got. Anyway, we liked it but wouldn't stand in line for hours to see it. I think I am more the Les Mis/Phantom kind of play or a good Agatha Christi (SP?).

Estelle--didn't realize you were in PA. I have family over in Bridgeville by Pittsburgh. I was actually born right around there. I am probably one of only a handful of people who can pick out a Pennsylvania accent. LOL!!Just say "Out of the house" and I got you. I heard about the bricks coming down. When we were walking to the play, I was thinking about that and trying to avoid all metal coverings on the ground.

Deb

Schools had a 90 min. delay today- we got about 7 inches when it stopped. Now they're saying more for Thursday night! Winter's last hoorah... It can leave quietly as far as I'm concerned!

RobinMarie- Which is the better "apizza" Sally's or Nick's on Wooster? Those are the 2 that have lines out the door, right? See I can't get away from those carbs, LOL! Which is the one that has the world's best tiramisu? I forget.... I want to go there! I lost 8 lbs., but I get the feeling I'm gonna gain back a few after this weekend.... Thanks for the good thoughts! They are focused to win & are putting their heart & soul into it. If they do, they will advance to Nationals, which I think is in Orlando this year! I'd be happy to go down there again this year!

Deb~ Now I understand why you weren't fond of the show... Wow, ticket brokers are getting $500 a seat for that show- that's a nice thank you!... I saw Nathan Lane on Letterman not too long & he was saying he does stuff like that on purpose just to see if Matthew Broderick will lose it cracking up... Sounds like they have a great time doing the show! See Harvey Fierstein in Hairspray before leaves- he's the best... Phantom is one of our favs too. It's Taylor's fav flute music. She plays it constantly. I'm getting sick of Music of the Night.... 42nd St. is our all time fav- tap dance a go go...

M& C King~ Try calling DCL direct & explain the situation. Tell them you feel your TA is not doing enough to rectify the situation... It shouldn't have happened to begin with if you had room #s.. I feel so bad for you! You will have a great time, no matter where you are on the ship though, don't let it get you down!

Back to fitting costumes- my favorite thing to do... NOT!
