Sorry So Late!
We arrived two days early in Florida and met some family at the magic Kingdom before the cruise. My DD was awestruck by the princesses there so I was really looking forward to seeing how she would be on board.
We arrived around 1:30 at the port and waited in line for a while, getting necessary papers inspected etc. Wouldn’t you know as we were in line to get on the boat I looked back and there was no line. I guess it is all in the timing. But they had Minnie Mouse there to help entertain so it was not that bad for the kids.
We arrived on the boat and forgot to see the bon voyage party. I was bummed!
Shorty after setting off it got pretty rocky, as the boat hit some pretty big waves. I ended up leaving dinner early to try to rest at our cabin. I think if this had happened later in the trip we would have had our “sea legs” and it would not have been so bad. My DS, 8 years old even vomited the next morning. So I was a little worried that the whole trip was going to be rough seas, but thankfully it was not.
The next day we spent becoming aquainted with the boat and it is awesome! Being a Disney nut, I LOVED hearing Disney movie tunes playing on the elevator, halls everywhere. My DD and even my DH commented a few times on the songs playing.
We tried the kids clubs out but my DD is only 3 years old and did not care to be left there. Once she was there she was fine, as I checked back often, it was just the initial dropoff. My DS, who’s 8 loved using the big screen in the oceaneers lab for playing play station. He also liked a lot of the things they offered in the lab.
We were lucky enough to go to Palo one evening and I highly recommend it! After dropping my screaming dd off at the club, I could relax knowing within a half hour she would be doing the do-se-do with Snow White. ( I lucked out having made ressies on the same night she would see Snow White) The dinner was excellent and our servie “Ellie” was exceptional. The only complaint I had is that I only made it there once. It was a nice break for us adults :cool1:

We enjoyed the beaches at the islands but since we did not book an excursion, we took the local taxis. We went to Dawn beach, at the recommendation of some locals and it was a nice beach but had large waves which is not always a good thing with little ones.
I have heard since that Mullet Bay is much nicer.

At St. Thomas we took a taxi to Magens Bay which was nice, but the taxi ride for the 4 of us round trip was $60. We had gotten pretty sunburned at st Marteen so we did not stay too long.

Dinner on the boat was good, I am a big fan of Italian food and at the sit down dinners it is not offered. I don’t think I have ever ate so much red meat in my life! As for gaining weight, I gained 6 lbs as everyone says you will. Our servers were Denny from Thailand and Alex or “Sasha” from Poland. Sasha really worked hard trying to keep the kids happy. Our DD who is usually very easy going was exhausted most of the time and very tempermental. We even have a picture of her at the dinner table sleeping covered with a napkin. Sasha was always getting something for her, more crayons, milk and even ice cream. They both were great.

My favorite part of the trip was Castaway Cay. I really wish we had spent more time there. Next time, and we are planning on going again, I am hoping to spend more time there. The only complaint was the water was a little cool, maybe it gets warmer later in the summer. I really did not want to leave. Besides loving the island, I knew it was the end of our trip. When my husband yelled it was time to go, I felt like my DS saying not yet!!!

One of the only things that would be nice is a lock on the cabin door high up, like you would have at a hotel. We had gone with another couple and my son was constantly in and out of our room to visit the other kids. Sometimes we would be in the middle of dressing when he opened the door. One time I was standing in my underwear in the bathroom on the side of the door, in plain site, and he opened the door. A man was walking by and I just looked at him quick, and he at me. I was embarrassed and told my son to close the door, well my husband comes up right after and says “hey, did you see that guy that just went by? It was the captain.” Talk about embarrassing!

Our cabin was on deck 7, and I made magnets for my door but since we were all the way forward not too many people got to see them. I also wanted to see the “secret deck” but did not make it.
I think it was just past us as we saw a lot of people going thru the door at the end of the hall and not all were crew members. I would try to get on deck 7 again as it was right in the middle of everything, up 2 floors and you are at the pool area and topsiders. Down three and you at at the restaurants and entertainment. We hardly ever took the elevators so I was surprised to see my weight gain with how much walking and stair climbing I did!:rotfl:

I was also bummed I missed meeting with other disboard members on board on Sunday. I also had a bad cold and ended up napping in the afternoon because I was so sick. Wouldn’t you know that I would catch a bad cold right before we left and be sick for pretty much the whole cruise. Luckily I was the only one in my family, that caught it.

Overall, we LOVED  the cruise and are planning on going again. This time we had an inside cabin and next time we would like to get a port hole or better.

enjoyed reading your report, that must have been pretty embarrassing when the door opened while not dressed and having the captain peek in.

Thanks for the update. We can't wait for our Eastern, too. Sounds like your kids enjoyed the clubs . . too cool!

I was a bit nervous leaving my kids with people I did not know. But it is a really good program and there are so many other kids there, and people in and out.
I found that they are really great with the kids. One time when I picked up my DD, she was sitting quietly while one of the staff was reading to her.
My husband was very impressed. I really wish that I had taken other people's advice and gotten a few phone cards to give out to them.

There's always next time!
