U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a new ruling that goes into effect on February 18, 2008 (that's today!) which mandates that all guests embarking on a cruise from a U.S. port be checked-in and onboard their ship at least one hour prior to the ship's departure. To comply with this mandate and ensure that there is ample time for the check-in process every cruise line now requires that all guests be checked in 90 minutes prior to the ship's scheduled departure. Guests arriving later than the 90 minutes check-in time will be denied boarding. And don't even think about requesting a refund!

That's even more reason why I was telling you we should get there early! And sometimes you think I am obsessed. (Getting there by 10am leaves us plenty of time!!!!).

Hey, other "Mother of Sons,"

Neither of my boys has reached 6 feet, so it looks like they've got competition! Mine are latino -- adopted from Costa Rica -- long story -- so they won't get much more height than they have at about 5'7" or so. I'm sure they'll see that your son is YOUNGER and think they've got it all over him, but when they see his height ... !!

Skuba2 -- thanks for the hint on tipping the club cms in goods rather than money.

People need to know that the tips automatically added to "bar drinks" mean any drinks ordered at a bar -- including sodas, smoothies, etc. Sodas are free at the beverage station but not from room service and not at the bars.

Hey, Beginsters!

I was just reading through the first pages of this thread, from before I joined, and said to myself, "We haven't heard from the Beginsters for a while!" And now look who showed up! Welcome back!

I wanted to say a little more about room service. MOST things are free from room service, but be aware that coffee, tea, milk, and juice are the only free drinks -- all other drinks will cost. A tip may be included in the drink charge, but it would be polite to go ahead and tip the delivery person even for drinks. DO tip for all food deliveries.

The usual tip is $1 - $2 per person. I hear that people bring along a lot of $1 bills just for this purpose.

It should be very interesting on the ship with all that teenage machismo. He loves to compete athetically, especially if there are any female spectators.

Now my DN, who will turn 14 the day we board, is planning on creaming all of the boys in the sports competitions! This should be fun!

Meanwhile, I need another clarification on the Character Breakfast. Is it only on at-sea days? That would make sense. I read somewhere that if you are on PLAPLAP you would do the breakfast on Thursday instead of Tuesday. Any confirmation on that?

Everyone needs to remember that, besides my DH and 2 DSs and all the nieces and nephews listed, we also have DMIL, DSisIL, 4 other sibs with their spouses, three other young couples from among the older nieces and nephews, three single nephews ages 25, 21, and 18, and one single niece age 20. Even I can't keep track of all of them!

Meanwhile, has anybody got an answers to my character breakfast questions?

You're welcome ... I will certainly add that other info to the list so that your "family" is complete.

Also regarding the character breakfast, here's what I know of:

- will fall on an "at sea" day
- time is based on your dinner time rotation
- no autographs will be signed (like at Chef Mickey's or other land-based meals)
- no individual photo ops are available but they do come around and interact with each table still

I called DCL to confirm which day based on what the rotations are and as usual, they are very tight-lipped about giving out any info that could change on you later.

So basically, I've got nothing for you that you didn't already know.
