Can someone tell me what the FE exchange is.....???

Here is a repeat of the info that was posted much earlier in this thread...

FISH EXTENDER (FE) INFO

(Plagarized and modified slightly from Deb T. 4/17/11 Dream Cruise Meet thread......Thanks Deb )

For anyone who's new to the Fish Extender Exchange, here's what it's all about:

Beside every cabin door is a large silver fish, seahorse, etc. with an indentation in the back for cruise personnel to leave information, invitations, etc.

DISboarders have taken the silver fish one step further... by creating hanging pockets (much like cloth letter holders) to hang from the fish - thus the name, "Fish Extender". The Fish Extenders (FEs) can be made of practically anything (cloth, plastic, paper gift bags, etc.), as long as they have at least one pocket that can hold surprises. My FE is just a plain little canvas bag that I had a DisSigner make a graphic for and I ironed it on.

Then, each "Cruise Meets" thread (such as this 4-1-12 one) organizes a little gift exchange during the cruise. People sign up by giving their cabin number, names of everyone in their cabin, and ages of the kids so that everyone will know how many goodies to bring and where to deliver them. Some people give one gift per family, some people give a little gift to each person. It's totally up to the giver to decide what to give and when to give it during the cruise.

There are several threads that discuss ideas for FE gifts. Some gifts are from Dollar Stores, some are handmade, and some are bought in bulk from websites that sell trinkets like the Oriental Trading Company. Often, they are stickers, candy, glow sticks, lanyards, etc., with themes such as pirates, beach, cruise, tropical, hometown, holiday, etc. The main idea is just to have fun finding little goodies in your FE throughout the cruise. Kids LOVE running back to their cabin to see if anything's been left in their FE. As an adult, I have to admit that I love it, too!!!

If you'd like to join in on the fun on our cruise, please let me know. Since some people travel earlier in the week prior to a cruise, we should close the list by March 1, 2012 to give everyone time to purchase gifts and pack them. You'll also need to print the final list of participants and pack it with your gifts so you'll know where to deliver them once you're onboard the ship.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Also, this thread has tons of info and ideas about FE Gift Exchanges: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

If you'd like to sign up, you can either post your information here on this thread, or send me a Private Message by clicking on my name in the upper left-hand side of this box and then click on "Send Guarn3md a Private Message". I will keep participants updated with details through Private Messages, but will keep a running list of DIS names on this thread.

FE gifts have officially been started!! :woohoo: Now to try to hide the "evidence" so the kids don't see it when they wake up in the morning...then it's off to bed. Feels good to have that started, though they're nowhere near done. Can't believe we're at 45 days!!! :yay:

We are taking our first Disney cruise on 1 April, myself, DH, DD 9 and DD 11. We are travelling from the UK a few days beforehand and staying at the Marriott Village Lake Buena Vista before and after the cruise. I am excited about the FE gifts and am trying to think of any suitably English little gifts to bring.
Looking forward to hearing any tips on what to pack and about door magnets - aren't they a big deal on a Disney cruise?

I can't wait to be added to these lists!!
We have late dinner.
We are always up for a cocktail, plz add us to the DDB, Chris!
Thanks!!

I will add your group to the Roll Call and FE Exchange List. I noticed that you have only 1 post and I think you need at least 10 to PM me your information for the FE. I will try to PM you my email address so that you have another way to send me your information. I need to know everyone's names and your stateroom number...

I had a thought tonight about the meet - what about holding a 50/50 for GKTW? The way I understand it to work is that anyone who wants to play puts in a certain amount of money - say $10 or $20 - and then there is a raffle. The winner gets 50% of the total, and the remaining 50% gets donated to GKTW.

My DH is always up for a little wagering (we are from Vegas). We would be up for this! What's GKTW? Let me know the details!

FE Updates...

We currently have 25 staterooms signed up and confirmed for the FE.

tellyaddict has expressed interest in joining FE - this would put us at 26 rooms.

I have sent a PM to RRL38 and have not heard anything back. I am going on the assumption that they are not participating. I will still keep them on the list but not include them in the counts. After March 1 if I have not received confirmation from them I will remove them from the list. I didn't count them as one of the 25 confirmed.

I need more information from two people - Mom Minnie (all names) and honeypot13 (all names and stateroom #). If you can't PM me let me know and I will PM you my email address.
Thank you to everyone for helping me keep this information organized. Don't want to make any mistakes!!

Debbie

What's GKTW? Let me know the details!

GKTW is short for Give Kids The World - it's a nonprofit that helps seriously ill children and their families experience Disney World. The direct link for the organization is here:

http://www.gktw.org/

Additionally, it would be part of an ongoing fundraiser by Pete and the rest of the podcast team - they're trying to raise $1,000,000 for this charity by organizing something called the Power of 10 - essentially if they get 10,000 people to each find 10 friends, each of whom donates $10, the goal is reached.

The Power of 10 website is here:

http://www.powerof10.us/

There is a whole subsection of the Disboards dedicated to Power of 10 meets and events, located here:

http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=186

Hopefully this helps (probably info overload, but hey, you asked)!

Thanks,

Scott

Los Chavez and the MIL and FIL are the late seating for dinner. We also got our room assignments a few days ago. MIL and FIl (Ruth and Ernie) are in room 2006. Los Chavez (Venita, Craig, Luc (age 10, and Elise (age 8) are in room 7500. We also went for the GTY room and are pleased to get a cabin facing forward. Doesn't appear to be obstructed view after all although the walls are slanted so may need to pull a chair up for the kids to see out. But cabin reports show it to be a handicap accessible room which is not needed but will be more spacious! Room reports online love this room. I can't believe how fast the posts are appearing now! Only the four of us in room 7500 will be in the FE.

Hey Christopher - add me to the Drinking Buddies list... Hoping to make it this year since I will have DH with me! Can leave Connor in the adjoining room to my parents - where my Dad should be snoring away by 10pm!! :rolleyes1

I am a Make-A-Wish Wish Granter and have sent many children to GKTW for WDW/US wishes. Several years ago, DH, DD, DS, and I all had the privilege of volunteering at GKTW for an afternoon/evening. It is, indeed, a magical place.

My dear friend's son and his family went to GKTW and had an amazing week at DW 2 summers ago (through Make-A-Wish). They cherish the memories sooo much, as he earned his angel wings just 4 weeks later at only 9 years old (bone cancer). He felt wonderful the whole time he was there, and just enjoyed every last minute. Definitely an amazing thing. Count us in if we do a fundraiser. :thumbsup2

Hi Debbie
Yes you are right about the PMs, I need to post a few more times first. It is just easier to give you the info here:
me - Wendy
DH - Gary
DD (11) Caitlin
DD (9) Rebecca
in 8020.

I am getting VERY obsessed with designing and making FEs and door magnets that I am not getting my studying done! I could easily spend the next 6 weeks just looking at all the threads! I've downloaded the fonts, pictures and DH says we will need to pack an extra bag for all the magnets and gifts!
Let me know if you need any more info.

Wendy, where are you getting the photos for magnets? Are you just putting random things together and creating your own? I did find the print outs for the magnets that go over the room numbers, but am always open to more suggestions! :) Also, we are bringing an entire suitcase that is cruise-only stuff (fish extender, FE gifts, pillowcases, pirate costumes, etc.) because we are surprising our kids with this trip, and it's two-fold. First surprising them with a trip to Disney (MK the day before cruise), then surprising them again with the cruise the next day (returning to the parks after the cruise). So this second bag will be off limits as just "Mommy and Daddy's stuff" on that first day. Ha! Also, my daughter will be 10 in March, so she might be hanging out with your girls. :)

Hey Erin! Try the thread for DISigns... that is where people get a lot of their designs for Magnets, T-shirts, pillowcases, etc... I can be extremely obsessed with it at times. If you find a design you like then you can ask designer to customize. I had my door covered with magnets last year. Which reminds me that I am way behind with this years designs.
Last year we also had a design that was for our cruise meet. I remember making it into a pin. I made a green disboard mickey head magnet for my door too.
