We will be taking Garrett to Ann Arbor tomorrow to see an eye plastic surgeon. He is needing to have surgery to "open" his eyelids. He was born with ptosis (paralysis, basically) of the muscles of his eyelids, so he cannot open them all the way.

When he was 6 months old, he had surgery on his right eye. The left was not bad enough at the time to require surgery. Now, the left is bad enough and the right needs to be redone.

This time, it will be a little more complex as they use fat from his legs to fashion a "sling" to hold his eyes open, so he will be hurting in a more than a few places. :(

I am not sure when the surgery will be or if they will do both eyes at the same time.....should know more tomorrow.

My best wishes, Kristy, for Garrett. Hope all goes well for your guy, neat guy he is.

Good luck to Garret tomorrow.
I am hoping for a speedy recovery

I hope everything goes well tomorrow.

Wow, that's got to be scary. Good luck!! Pixie dust headed your way!

Just thought I would update those interested. :) The surgery will be on June 1. Here's the good news: they won't be taking the fascia from Garrett's own leg, so he won't be hurting on his legs. Now the bad (read ewwww, squirm factor :) ) news, the fascia will be coming from a cadaver. (However, trust me, as much as it makes me squirm, I am grateful to the soul who decided to donate his body for medical use, bless his or her soul)

Anyway, thanks for the good thoughts!

good thoughts to you and garrett!! I was told that the eyes are one of the fastest healing parts on the body as my dd had surgery on her eyes. Best of luck to you!!
