Appropriate shoes for the park,Merrell, flip flops??

I wore croc flip flops for 5 days straight at the parks. I wear them most everyday at home, so for me, it's the most comfortable. Go with what you are most comfortable in.

I've had the best luck at both DL and WDW with Crocs (the Mary Jane style). Not the cutest shoes but they work. I did recently buy some of the Merrell type shoes (closed toe) and might try those on our next trip. I am a CA girl and hate wearing anything but flip flops, but most are not comfortable for walking all day. :sad1:

These are similar to mine:

Yep--those are the same shoes I just bought (Sports Authority), but mine are light brown. I wore them for the first time in Yosemite, and I had no problems breaking them and they were super comfortable.

I always wear New Balance tennis shoes. I can walk all day and not get blisters. I want to be able "walk with purpose", keep my feet safe, and not loose my shoes. I can't even walk to the swimming pool in flip flops. I shuffle along trying to keep them on my feet. I don't know how people wear those things all day! :confused3 At home the sandals I wear are securely attatched to my feet. :rotfl: I can't stand the look of Crocs and would never wear them. However, I saw someone had flat crocs that look like the flats I wear. I may have to look in to those if they are comforatable.

I'm a chaco, teva and birkenstock fan. I need arch support and these seem to do the trick.

Nothing I have tried has been as comfortable as my Crocs. I have Mary Janes and big ugly pink Disney ones. Both work great and, as a bonus, you don't have to wear socks and they can get wet. Also bring my Tevas but they are a distant third for comfort.

I love flip flops in the parks (Rainbows). It's all I wear in the summer--as long as they are cushiony. Your socks won't get wet on Grizzly Rapids, and I think my feet last longer than in athletic shoes. You stand more than walk, so a cushiony sole is more important than a stable walking surface. The only real ride where you may loose them is Soarin' but you can just put them in the pocket under your seat if you're worried about it. I used to take mine off and put them there, but now I just keep them on my feet and have never had a problem.

I agree sturdy flip-flop or sandals for the win.

But I think it varies from person to person too.

Sneakers sound more park appropriate in my mind, but it never fails that if I do wear sneakers I end up going back to the room to change into sandals or flip-flops. One time I resorted to buying wedged flip-flops from a gift shop because my feet were hurting so bad.

This is probably because I have narrow feet and they tend to get roughed up against the sides of shoes after extended periods. Plus it's hot (if you're going in the summer).

Oh and my sandals don't fall off on Soarin' either, but going barefoot it's kinda refreshing lol.

These shoes look comfy - they're Crocs.

These are super cute!:thumbsup2

I haven't seen this style, I might have to check out the crocs now.

Aren't they? They remind me of the jelly shoes I wore as a kid.

Just may be ordering a pair for my upcoming trip.

That what I was thinking! I used to wear jellies too! I can't stand the look of traditional crocs but those purple ones are so cute! I went to the crocs website and some other flat styles like that I would wear. But I hate to order without trying on. I wonder if I will be able to find them in stores.

My mall has a kiosk in the middle of the mall. Lots of style and sizes. So maybe try there??

I checked their store locator and the only mall kisok within 25 miles is in San Fransisco and I'm not going all the way there. :sad2: I'm sorry but SF is crazy nuts to drive through! All I have near me is "retail partners" who probably don't have the selection. There is a discount store in an outlet mall on the way to Sacramento area where my inlaws live so maybe we could stop by on the way... If I can convince 3 adult males -DH and two DS18s that we need to stop and look at shoes! :lmao:

Lol!

Well you can always get some once you're in SoCal - maybe even someplace in DTD sells them. When I go in two weeks I'll be on the lookout for them... the cute ones that is, I know I've seen the traditional clog ones in World of Disney.

I have two pairs of flip flops that are super comfy - Tevas and Dr. Weil's - both have arch support. Besides that I have New Balance walking sneakers that are really comfy. Since we're going in November I'll likely bring the New Balance.

Yes, I would be interested to know if they have the cute ones. All I've ever seen is those big clogs. And I've heard people say how comfortable they are but can't get past the look. Now that I know they exist, I'll keep my eyes open for them.

I suggest good running shoes. I don't know how people with flip flops manager to handle that large amount of walking you end up doing in shoes that over no support with skinny straps!

I don't know that anyone can really suggest "good shoes". Its all personal preference and all has to do with what fits you right.

The shows we like are the Nike air, and my sketchers for women's shoes. I recommend buying shoes ahead tho and making sure you break them in before you head out there.

So are the flip flop people the ones voting for Merrell? I've got to say I had to take back all the times I'd suggested flip flops after my last DL trip. I packed 2 pairs of reefs and by day three I was at Target buying no name $30 sneakers and I'd NEVER been so thrilled with a pair of shoes in my life!! :lmao:

It ends up I never really walk that much at WDW because we only go for the day. All day walking for multiple days killed my feet!! I'm wondering if Merrells have the support of thicker sneakers? I'm going to have to figure out what I'm doing this year! (still celebrating we just booked last week )

I rotated between Dansko sandals, Sanuk flip slops, and Born sandals. No blisters at all, but I did get shin splints from running all around the park for FP and 7 round trips to and from HoJo. I would switch shoes every afternoon after I brought my DDSs back to nap. Also switched outfits (fresh tank top) so I didn't feel so sweaty and grimy!

hey smiles33, what dansko sandals do you wear at the parks? I am thinking about getting a pair for my trip, but don't know which would be good-there seem to be different heel heights and I wonder if the medium or high ones wouldn't be good. I'd love to know what you are wearing, if you don't mind.

I'm not sure where you are in N. CA, but there is a Crocs store at the Great Mall in Milpitas. Also Valley Fair in Santa Clara/San Jose has a rather large kiosk.

I've had great luck in ordering shoes from zappos.com, they ship super quick (got my last order in three days (And would have been two, had I not missed the UPS driver), but they have free shipping both ways, so if you needed to return them, you could do that easily.
