Applying room discount

I want to book a resort for December, but room discounts aren't out yet. Is it a possibility to go ahead and book the room and then have the room discount applied later? Does this work for the AP room discount?

No, you don't actually "apply" a room discount, although you will often hear it phrased that way. A rack rate room is technically a different room type from a discounted room. If you book a rack rate room now, and see a discount for the room you want later, you will have to change your reservation to the discounted room type. Easy to do, but subject to availability.

Having the rack rate room pre-booked gives you no advantage. A person booking a new reservation has the exact same chance of getting that discounted room. You might also have the rack rate version of the room booked, but find that no discounted version of it is available.

I recommend not booking rack rate in advance, as Disney only discounts rooms that are not reserved, so prebooking it would be making it less likely that the room will become available under a discount.

Only book a room that you really want, at a price you're willing to pay.
