Applying Just to Get a Restricted Rehire Lifted

I ended my Spring 2011 program two weeks early due to becoming ill with mono. I provided my managers with paperwork from the doctor's office and was made aware that upon my leaving, I would be placed with a restricted rehire status.

I desperately wish to do another college program upon completion of my bachelor's degree in Fall of 2012. However, if not accepted, I would be devastated. I couldn't merely reapply for the next season either as I would have already completed my schooling.

I was wondering if it might be best to apply for Spring 2012 in order to fill out the appropriate paperwork to get my restricted rehire status lifted and practice the interview process as a returning CP. If/when offered a position for that season, I would then turn down the offer.

My hopes are to enter the Fall 2012 recruiting season without the looming rehire label and instead on a relatively clean slate (obviously I know that the computers would still have my records and such but hopefully without the restricted label attached, an acceptance would be easier to achieve).

Would this work? Oh, and I have been employed for six months time with the same company since leaving Florida.

I've never heard of someone applying just to turn around and decline the job once the "restricted" status falls off. I mean, I'd imagine it'd be plausible, but I can't imagine there's many examples of it having happened since most folks accepted after getting Restricted lifted would just simply take the job.

You will have to contact Casting about this. I too was on restricted rehire after being unable to fulfill seasonal obligations, but I was emailed the appropriate appeal paperwork to fill out and fax back in. I also had a manager vouch for me as well and within 3 weeks, I was back on favourable hiring status and go accepted for my CP this past spring. Try calling the college program and internships division and talk to one of them.
