Ever have one of those weeks?

Weds - washer stops at the end of rinse cycle without draining the tub....strong "burning electric" smell

Sun - VCR eats a tape & won't give it back (still stuck & flashing a green light at me saying "the tape is on its way out" - NOT!)

Tues - TV picture displays for 30 - 45 seconds, fades & screen is black...no problem with sound

I really needed a job before all this, but now?!?!?!?!

Sorry - pity party is over now...back to your regularly scheduled DISing.

We had that same washer problem! The electrician came and replaced the motor and charged about $300  (can almost buy a new one for that!) but it was still under warranty so it didn't cost us oop.

I feel for you. That kind of stuff seems to come in multiples!

My experience with one of these kinds of weeks is that the hot water heater will be next. Hopefully, your mileage will vary;)

We've gone through times like this before as well. Hopefully you can one day look back at this time and laugh.

Last year we had an experience with our refridgerator. It was acting up a bit, so we decided to buy a new one and put the old one in the garage. When the new one was delivered, the delivery men couldn't get it up the stairs. We live in a mother/daughter house and we are on the second floor. It was really fustrating that the men couldn't get it upstairs. We couldn't understand since we already had a fridge upstairs. So we sent the fridge back to the store.

We then bought another smaller fridge hoping that a smaller one could be delivered. This time the new fridge did fit upstairs. However the story doesn't end there. We still had the old fridge upstairs. The delivery men tried to bring it downstairs, but after trying tor about 45 minutes they gave up. It seems that we must have had the original fridge delivered and brought upstairs before the banister was installed. Now we were really stuck. The old fridge didn't exactly look great in my livingroom next to the wall unit! We ended up having a friend come over and cut the fridge up in order to get it down the stairs. He had to cut it into three pieces in order for it to fit. Talk about a crazy day. We were pretty upset about it at the time but now we laugh about it!

Hope all works out for you too!

oh gosh - that sucks I'm so sorry.

I've been lucky to never have that problem with appliances - yet - however one day I was cursed with lightbulbs.

I had 7 (SEVEN!!!!!) blow on me in one day. No matter what room I walked into...everytime I flipped the lighswitch, a bulb (or bulbs) in the room would blow.

it got REALLY funny after the 3rd one...after the 6th one, I just started crying.

We had that kind of month last month. We moved into a new place (actually old house), and right off the bat, we had no hot water heater for about a week and a half. Then just as soon as the owner got a new one in, the pipes started backing up due to them being too small and being too small to handle the stuff that had been drained out of the old hot water heater. That lasted for about a week and a half until he finally got Roto Rooter out there. Meanwhile Easter Sunday, the stove quit working, some switch thing. So I was cooking only on the separate cooktop (thankgoodness it was separate), and the microwave. So we had to wait until the part got in, but then our microwave of 17 years up and quit! I was a bit ticked off then, needless to say!:)
Finally, everything got fixed, for the exception of the microwave, but the owner found us one to use temporarily until we can buy a new one. Just hope the money comes in for that sometime this year.:) I figure that the way things have been going... it might be cheaper to just run away to some deserted island!:)
Hugs to you guys too.

Thanks for commiserating. ;) I knew it wasn't just me, but it always feels better somehow when others have been there too. (Not that I'd wish it on you, though!)

Weird thing happened.....DD forgot about the washer being broken & went down to put a load in. And it worked! I wish I'd known that before dipping out all the water. :o

Now if only the TV would start working again. ;) DD's home sick & getting VERY bored! She doesn't DIS & no one is on AIM right now. :D

Never does just one appliance break.....they need their buddies to go out with 'em! We just lost a dryer and a microwave. Ever heard of a microwave cooking a hole in itself? Ours did......open the door and from the INSIDE you could look down and see the counter!!!! Scary stuff!!! :scared1:

I'd almost be afraid to take the microwave in for repairs, though knowing my luck.:) It is a Kenmore, though, I wonder what Sears would charge?...Hmmmm. Oh well, it still makes a hand dandy timer, though.:)

repairs would probably cost as much as a new one....however quite often when microwaves die, it's fuse that's inside them..I have a book on repairing appliances and I actually fixed mine thanks to the book,,,

I had bought a new microwave then looked at the book and decided to try the fuse...it cost me 10 bucks....there is a major warning label inside due to some part that stores enough electricity to electrocute you, but I gambled and won....LOL
so I returned the new microwave...
