Apple-obsessed financial analyst Charlie Wolf said today in a research note that Apple could cut the price of the 8GB iPhone to $99. Here's why.

I'm still on the 1st gen iPhone and don't see myself paying $200/$300 for the 3G. $100 and I just might consider buying a phone that's still in beta. Even though I'll be paying an extra $15 per month to keep my text messages and get crappy 3G coverage. EDGE is bad enough in my area that AT&T considers fully covered.

I was all set to get the 3G but was glad that I waited due to the spotty 3G coverage. I'm going to hang onto my original iPhone until they work out the kinks.

I love the original. I do not live in a 3G coverage area so that part wouldn't change. But, the service is more expensive and I'd lose rollover minutes and included txt messages. I know it will die sometime, but I hope not anytime soon. When it does, I guess the 3G is my only option. :(
