My DS likes his Mac, but he really misses the MS Paint program. He uses it to design posters, handbills, logos, etc., for his band. I can't find any kind of Apple software that seems to be comparable, although a couple of packages look like they might work. I don't want to spend a fortune b/c eventually he'll take a graphic art class or two and ask for one of the big expensive programs. What might serve him well in the meantime?

I would get Photoshop Elements.

If he is going into graphic design he's going to need to learn photoshop anyway. Elements is scaled down and a reasonable price (less than $100) compaired with Photoshops $600+ price tag.

Thanks RadioNate -- that sounds like a good option. He's not necessarily going into graphic design. He's a fine arts major at this point, but he will at least take a class or two as electives. He's very creative and able to visualize the end product, though, and graphic arts would be a good field for him when he realizes he's probably not going to be the next Monet.

Or try The Print Shop. I haven't installed it yet, but the literature said it will do a lot of that kind of thing.
