Appetizers or Dessert??

We would love to visit either Blue Bayou or/and Carthay Circle when our family of 7 visits in June, but costs are just too high for a full blown dinner. Is it frowned upon if you order only appetizers or desserts? We wanted to choose an "off" time like 3:30 or 4:00 so it wouldn't be the heart of dinner time (but then again, any time is dinner time at Disney parks!)
Has anyone done this? What was your experience?

Thank you!!

I wanted to order just soup at BB but was told that isn't allowed. I chose to split a meal with my daughter instead.

Carthay circle has a bar menu and seating areas to enjoy a drink and something off the bar menu.

Blue Bayou does not offer appetizers. They use to though, quite a long time ago now.
Ordering only a dessert is allowed. And is welcomed.

Do they still offer free tours of Carthay in the morning before the first lunch seating? That would be one way to see the dining area.

Ask the CM standing outside the Carthay in the morning if the tour is still taking place. I think the dining room was included, but I can't remember for sure. The CM talks about the history of the original Carthay, the artwork and the architecture.

The lounge area is downstairs in the lobby and has a very different menu from the Dining Room. It has some very good small plates so sometimes we just get some small plates in the lounge and other times we make a reservation for the dining room.

The soup or the salad are included in the price of the dinner so unlike many TS restaurants, the BB doesn't have an appetizer menu.

Thank you for the feedback, everyone! Is it possible for a party of 7 to get a waterside table at BB? Do you just request when you check in for ressie?

We have done dessert at the BB. Like you we wanted to be courteous so we went during off time. The staff were all polite and made us feel welcome even though we didn't order entrées. I'm sure it probably happens a lot, and i would do it again.

Yes, it is. I always recommend arriving at least 20 minutes prior to your reservation, so as to ask the CM at the podium about your interest in being seated waterside.

Having dined at BB multiple times and usually have to wait for a while before being seated (I never make advance reservations because I like to play it by ear). I personally don't care if people just go in and have desert and after a reasonable (hopefully short) amount of time leave (obviously some have mentioned going to BB during a slow time). Personally I would hope that someone wouldn't sit at a table just having desert for several hours but hey how can you control that right.

It is possible but waterside tables are highly sought after so you might be waiting a while before being seated especially without a reservation.
