Hi all! Just got a 7:35pm reservation at Le Cellier on my birthday!! Very excited, but it's also during the Flower and Garden Festival. I love all of the food booths during the festival and plan on trying quite a few different foods as we stroll around the World Showcase. That being said, I am thinking we may only want to have 2 or 3 appetizers and some cocktails instead of entrees. Does anyone think this would be a problem? Thanks for your advice!!

Sounds like a fabulous plans! Go and have a terrific time :cool1:

No problem at all - that's what we did last time! We had the Cheddar Cheese soup, Caesar Salad, and Poutine - all very tasty! We also had some Maple Crème Brulee, which was also tasty.

We loved Le Cellier and will be returning there for our May trip. Have fun!

Strictly my opinion, but...while it can be done, and there are no "rules" agaisnt it, whenever someone brings up going into a TS restaurant just for either appetizers or desserts only, something about that just seems wrong to me. You're occupying a table for essentially a little more than a snack that could be occupied by another party who would conceivably have a 2 or 3-course meal, which would (or should) result in a much greater tip for the server. So, soley on the premise of a possible negative impact to the server - I've never been very supportive of the idea.

Its just a part of the job.

Its hard to say its right or wrong. We tend to split meals alot, since we cant eat two full meals but tip like we ordered two.

For us the desserts and soup and opoutine si the only things that really interests us. So in the end its not much different ordering and app and dessert then just one entree.

So, by that logic, Solo Travelers shouldn't eat at TS either, since they are taking up space that could be used by a party of 2-4?

You yourself admitted with "(or should)" that people do not all tip the same. Besides some not tipping at all, others vary widely in the amount and/or percentage they leave. A Server could just as easily get a higher tip from a party of 2 with a $40 check than from a party of 4 with an $80 check. It just depends on who's doing the tipping.

It's OP's money, and as long as there are no restrictions posted by the restaurant, or the DP guidelines, they are free to order whatever they want.

Personally, I'd go for one of each dessert. It is a vacation, you know! ;)

If you only order appetizers, you won't be occupying the table for the same amount of time as someone eating a three-course meal. Therefore, I can't agree with the idea that it's somehow "unfair" to the server.

Personally, we ate at Le Cellier and ordered an appetizer and two poutines. So, I don't have a problem with the concept.

When I travel solo, I will adjust the gratuity to reflect more of a "table charge." That's that's a whole different topic.

Thanks for the advice! Based on the prices of items on the menu and the fact that we will be having a few drinks, I do think that we will have a pretty hefty bill. I am in the service industry myself and always overtip! :flower3:

This is just my opinion, but I think that the prices of everything on the menu will more than make-up for the amount of food being ordered. And the fact that they'll probably be there for a shorter time period than someone ordering a full dinner. And like someone else said, it sort of goes along with the job.

As a side note: I REALLY wish my husband and I had thought of this last year on our first (and last!) visit to Le Cellier. To us, it's totally not worth the price for a full meal.

I think your idea is great.

I think some appetizers and drinks sounds like such a great idea. I've always wanted to try Le Cellier, we loved the cheese soup at Food and Wine. I don't see a problem with it at all! :yay:

We did just that when we went. Cheese soups, salad and poutine. We are not steak eaters but actually wanted the poutine. No guilt.

Of course you can do it. Nobody is going to force you to order a full meal.
